Well, I think X-Men is where the genre really took off. They've really capitalized on that early lead.
Also, Marvel is currently owned by the evil mega-corp known as Disney.
They've kinda got the advantage, while I think DC is still trying to find that groove. With Dark Knight Rises, Nolan is kinda just finishing what he started.
Hopefully Man of Steel will hit the mark and take what Nolan did just a step further, applying the same depth of thought to the whole DCU. We'll have to wait for a preview to see.

I think my roomie plans to pick me up after work tomorrow and race to the city to go see The Avengers. As long as we don't get pulled over by the cops we'll be good lol.

Yeah, same thing happened to me when I watched the Felix The Cat movie a while back.... >_> It really sucks.
Y'know what movie didn't get worse on re-watching though? Cats Don't Dance.
If anything, I think its gotten better because now I've got the singing chops to freakin sing along.
