Hi. I'm new around the guild. I play clarinet. I honestly wanted to play the sax, but oh well. Besides, I can improv on a sax and I don't know how to play it. My friends say I do great for someone who's never actually learned.

Hello, I've returned.
I'm still a bit of a newbie on my clarinet (Bb) and I just wondered if you have any tips from playing a low "F' note, to a low "A' note. I can't seem to lift my wedding finger and my pinky at the same time, so it sounds warped.
Any tips?

Lunar_Blade Hello, I've returned. I'm still a bit of a newbie on my clarinet (Bb) and I just wondered if you have any tips from playing a low "F' note, to a low "A' note. I can't seem to lift my wedding finger and my pinky at the same time, so it sounds warped. Any tips? try tounging the A rather than slurring it. Depending on the note length, you may be able to put a little bit of space in between the notes, just enough to pick your fingers up. If you have to slur it, well...I can't help you there. I hope my advice helped even a little bit.

I am becoming more and more convinced that our section is turning into the colorguard section from last year. People are biting each others' heads off for no apparent reason, the section leaders are squabbling and they think that they're failing us in some way (maybe if you two quit fighting!) and yesterday evening after the game Caitlyn sat us down and lectured everyone (even the leaders) on how a section should be a family. I support Caitlyn for taking the initiative, but if we want to make this work, we need to actually do something about it instead of lecturing.

You're a better clarinetist than me but you've only been playing for less than half of what I have. You're going to be a very successful musical performer (or whatever career in music you choose) someday. So don't say that you haven't got talent, or you're going to become [analogy]like one of those anorexic people who although they only weigh like 50 pounds and wear size -79, they still think they're fat. (except relate this to your situation.)[/analogy] And y'know what? you'll probably be really famous too, and you'll have a bunch of your role models come up to you and ask you for your autograph, and mothers with newborns asking you to kiss their babies. lol. but yeah, everyone needs a break from something they love once in a while.

Oh Nevira us clarinetist are idiots -_- ugh they looked at me when I said, "sooo who practiced over the summer?" "WTF! NO ONE PRACTICES OVER THE SUMMER! ONLY LOSERS DO!" stare righttt so call annie or karen the fluties losers then :Roll: hmm try being more aggressive, bribing them in some way...mr. a is bribing everyone to know there Bb, F, C, G, D, A, and E scales [all southern requirements] and whoever's section gets checked off by them then randomly tested by him, gets to sleep in on friday [we have band zero period] I'm not happy about that ~_~ I want to go to banddd! scream
flaming ninja- crying my dear don't say that, on youtube 7/10 of the people who commented said I sucked... gonk I try not to get intimidated but it ends up sticking in me headddd! and I've seen little kids on youtube who played better then me at...i don't know gonk crying if I were good...I would have gotten into the PYSO or CYSO easily, I'm not even ready for any orchestra ::goes to a corner::
but flaming ninja makes me feel confident!!!!! heart biggrin : emotion_hug : thank you biggrin HERE! have a chocolate clarinet heart heart . mm I'm hoping to teach, be in an orchestra or teach and be a soloist [harddd DDX wait can't I be both!?] ahaha sweatdrop its cheesy but eversince my band came back from new york and boston, those clinics affected me alot, one of miyoko-chan's biggest goals is to save people through music! its so cheesy but it sorta makes music even more worth while ^_____^ I must be honest about this, I've wanted to quit a few times but I wanted to save peopleeeee! :wheeeee:
i'm rambling now :Sweat: biggrin ;;;
[rant] crying my teacher was really really mad at me, even though he didn't say so, [I've been so busy that today I actually got to practice and break in my new reeds!!! for only two hours=_=] when he heard that I didn't practice my arpeggios he was like, "=__=.....I'm shocked, YOU not practice your arpeggios?" me:" biggrin ..." I didn't realize how bad this was at that moment. ::teacher starts to scribble on my note book angrily:: "Okay, you don't have to play them today, I'm not going to sit here and listen to half baked arpeggios". before lessons ended, he asked, "so why didn't you practice?" "I had to study" true I did but I shouldn't have watched whose line it is anyways, stall on my homework at times, or watch grey's anatomy or how I met your mother or heroes or gilmore girls crying . wahhhh! it made me feel worse because I mean, he drives all ze way from hollywood on a motorcycle he could dieeeee! I can't waste my lessons I'm given!! and yet I made him mad crying ::emos:; i'm okay!!!!! DDX[/rant]

Miyoko, if you keep on fretting about the amount you practice, you're going to have a nervous breakdown. I'm serious. No amount of practicing is going to help you if you wind up in a psych ward. Just practice what you NEED to practice, not for the sake of logging hours. And if you want to watch TV and you need to practice, just do what I do-play during the commercial breaks. For an hour-long program, you'll get at least a net 20 minutes practicing while watching, and sometimes that's enough to get done what you need to get done.

Mavu Kira-Kyuuketsuki MY CLARINET DIED!!!! crying I had to get a new one!!! the core cracked!!! ... it was real wood..... crying crying crying eek scream How could this happen?! Horrors! You poor poor child! I give you a clarinet huggle to comfort your loss! *clarinet huggle* This is a weird question, but...How do you all get rid of your reeds after they've gotten too old/cracked/burned? (yes a reed of mine was set alight once...not while it was still attached to the clarinet, mind you) I just split my reeds down their vertical axis once they've already died of old age or horrible painful death.

Mavu Kira-Kyuuketsuki MY CLARINET DIED!!!! crying I had to get a new one!!! the core cracked!!! ... it was real wood..... crying crying crying Did you already get the new one? if you didn't I would recommend a Buffet Greenline. Expensive, but it won't crack. Ever. (I LOVE MY BUFFET R13!! heart heart ) I need a new mouthpiece, but I can't afford one...well, not the one I want. Does anyone know where's a good place to get them?
