He paused as their drinks arrived, thanked the waitress, then sipped his before smiling at Yoru. "I tell my mom powder blue because she liked to get my clothes in that colour, so..."

He frowned. "Well, just as soon as I've started Training I mean... hmm. Romeo and Juliet-type films, or just the classic one? Where do you stand on Musicals?" He grinned, enjoying learning about Yoru. "Oops. I'll make sure to give you two turns: I've had three or more from one original question!"

"Hmmm. At the moment my favourite dish would have to be... chocolate fudge cake." Nathan had struggled with that question because eating had been difficult. Most things he'd cooked prior to Mao's death had been things to share with his Demon. He'd missed that, and as such no food that he couldn't eat alone felt entirely wrong to him.
A sad smile appeared and disappeared quickly as he remembered - then 'buried' the memories.

"Ican tell you are thinking about him again. That is fine. I do not expect you not to. Sometimes I do think it is better if he were to come back. Then I would just go back to just being a shadow. I would have no responsibilities anymore. Maybe if I am right about my suspicions, I can give him his life back." Yoru had spoken without really thinking about what he had said. For a moment he had even forgotten who he had been talking to. "Oh.. I am... I apologize.." There was a brief moment of silence. Yoru took a sip of his tea and then sighed. "I am more drawn to spicy foods. Things like curry and such."

Nathan couldn't help it: he glared at Yoru. "Since we're doing a ask-and-answer session, tell me what three things you think you just said. And I don't mean the curry comment..."
His voice came out colder than he'd intended it to, but his mind had come to a standstill, and yet started whirring madly.

I think it may be possible that his soul may be trying to merge back into this body. If that is the case then I think it may be possible for him to return. I just thought that would be better for you since you loved him so dearly."

Nathan couldn't quite process all of that now, so he focused on his previous question.
"Yoru, that did not answer my question, so I shall do it for you.
Firstly, when you say being a shadow, what do you mean? Now, if you meant that you'd go back to having your own life, one that didn't tie you to me, then that is not so bad. I know you probably don't like being tied to me when you don't know me that well.
If, however, you meant that you wouldn't exist at all, then no. I wouldn't want that.
Secondly - well, my first point covered two and three as well. But I don't want you to fade into nothingness. Much as I love Mao - and part of me always will - I like getting to know you. I would not want Mao back if it meant you didn't exist.
Life is not fair, I know that, but I would never be happy if I knew you'd died so I could be with Mao..."
He looked away and shakily picked up his mug, sloshing hot liquid all down his hand and not caring.
