If I go to a bar, I have maybe one or two drinks and hang out with my friends. How in the hell is that unhealthy? Alcohol is dangerous in excess, but unlike smoking, everyone in the bar isn't sharing my drink. Unless I drink in excess or drive after drinking, I'm not hurting anyone, and there are laws for people who do take it to dangerous levels. One or two people is smoking in a small bar, and it's all through the room. I don't want to smell like an ashtray.
I'm glad to hear that you are a responsible drinker but, I know many people that go to bars, I live near quite a few and sadly, most people that I see are not at all responsible in any way. Most people go into bars and get drunk. Their judgement becomes impaired and they can become a nuisance or a threat to others around them.
The amount of damage they could do if they drink to excess I believe outweights the amount of damage breathing in second hand smoke can do.
As for smelling like an ashtray, well I don't think that's a viable reason not to allow business owners the option of allowing smoking indoors.

But it's not fair to shove non-smokers out of public establishments because of a few people who don't care about their own health, let alone the health of those who are indoors with them.
And is it fair not to allow business owners the option to run their business the way they wish which could make them more money because some people don't want to be around smokers?
From what I've seen, most people smoke when they drink. So, is it fair to all those people to be shoved outside because some people have a problem with it?
Seems to me that either way you go with this someone is getting forced outside and it's not fair for either.
Right now it seems smokers are being attacked by the government. Smoking is being banned everywhere, taxes are being raised out the a** on them, and all you hear about is second hand smoke and the danger it represents when really drinking in excess (which many people are guilty of) is much more deadly.
When is the last time you heard about someone getting tobacco poisoning in one night and being found dead the next day? Or when has someone been smoking alot and crashed on the road because of it? 'Oh sorry officer. Guess I had too much to inhale.'
Smoking doesn't make you lose complete control of your senses and the ability to function whereas alcohol does and it's very easy for a good deal of people to reach the point of intoxication.
Yes, to some people smoke stinks and over an extended period of time, breathing in the smoke can do a great deal of damage to your body, but I don't see how that in any way compares to the immediate and life-threatening effects alcohol can have and yet that is permitted indoors whereas smoking is not and I think that's ridiculous.
Now, I don't think alcohol should be banned. I like alcohol just fine. I just think it's a hell of a lot riskier to allow people to drink in public than it is to allow them to smoke.
I can understand restrictions to smoking. I don't think smoking should be allowed in family oriented places like Chuck E. Cheese, etc. or in grocery stores. But, if an establishment is only for adults, then the owner should have the ability to decide if it's allowed.
