Then thank them in the appropriate thread, where they'll see your gratitude.

Tsujigiri: Hm, that's an interesting idea. You said, in the same manner as liquor licenses. Where you live, do you need a license to purchase or consume alcohol? I'm just curious, I admit to not knowing much about liquor laws in the US.

I personally hate these smoking bans...they have them where I live and it's ridiculous. You can't smoke in a bar??? Who the hell is going into a bar worrying about their health? rolleyes
If someone owns their own business and doesn't mind if people smoke, they oughta be able to allow it.
I think alcohol is much more dangerous and yet people can go to quite a few restaurants and bars and drink.
I even heard that in California you can't smoke in your own car.
I'm tired of the government trying to force me to be healthy. stressed

Ah yes.
Canada has those too. Have had them for years and years.
Quite the complaint and loss in revenue.

In Minnesota (maybe the entire U.S.), each city is granted a certain number of liquor lisences according to it's population. These licenses are then issued/sold to establishments allowing them to stock/sell/serve liquor.

@Alarias - That's why I keep going back and forth on whether or not it's a good thing.

@tsuji: I think its a tossup between the two...

on one hand, people who don't smoke will not be plagued by second hand smoke, but on the other hand, people who do smoke ar ebeing forced not to, and its a hard habit to kick. So for me, its a toss up...thats for damn sure... i know here we have some PISSY people.....

If I go to a bar, I have maybe one or two drinks and hang out with my friends. How in the hell is that unhealthy? Alcohol is dangerous in excess, but unlike smoking, everyone in the bar isn't sharing my drink. Unless I drink in excess or drive after drinking, I'm not hurting anyone, and there are laws for people who do take it to dangerous levels. One or two people is smoking in a small bar, and it's all through the room. I don't want to smell like an ashtray.

Now, I don't agree whatsoever with laws that prohibit someone from smoking in their own car. It's their own car, they should be able to smoke in it if they damn well please. I certainly don't mind people smoking outdoors, in public or not, since I don't have to go near them or breathe the smoke.

But it's not fair to shove non-smokers out of public establishments because of a few people who don't care about their own health, let alone the health of those who are indoors with them.

I'm glad to hear that you are a responsible drinker but, I know many people that go to bars, I live near quite a few and sadly, most people that I see are not at all responsible in any way. Most people go into bars and get drunk. Their judgement becomes impaired and they can become a nuisance or a threat to others around them.
The amount of damage they could do if they drink to excess I believe outweights the amount of damage breathing in second hand smoke can do.
As for smelling like an ashtray, well I don't think that's a viable reason not to allow business owners the option of allowing smoking indoors.

But it's not fair to shove non-smokers out of public establishments because of a few people who don't care about their own health, let alone the health of those who are indoors with them.

And is it fair not to allow business owners the option to run their business the way they wish which could make them more money because some people don't want to be around smokers?

From what I've seen, most people smoke when they drink. So, is it fair to all those people to be shoved outside because some people have a problem with it?

Seems to me that either way you go with this someone is getting forced outside and it's not fair for either.
Right now it seems smokers are being attacked by the government. Smoking is being banned everywhere, taxes are being raised out the a** on them, and all you hear about is second hand smoke and the danger it represents when really drinking in excess (which many people are guilty of) is much more deadly.
When is the last time you heard about someone getting tobacco poisoning in one night and being found dead the next day? Or when has someone been smoking alot and crashed on the road because of it? 'Oh sorry officer. Guess I had too much to inhale.'
Smoking doesn't make you lose complete control of your senses and the ability to function whereas alcohol does and it's very easy for a good deal of people to reach the point of intoxication.

Yes, to some people smoke stinks and over an extended period of time, breathing in the smoke can do a great deal of damage to your body, but I don't see how that in any way compares to the immediate and life-threatening effects alcohol can have and yet that is permitted indoors whereas smoking is not and I think that's ridiculous.

Now, I don't think alcohol should be banned. I like alcohol just fine. I just think it's a hell of a lot riskier to allow people to drink in public than it is to allow them to smoke.

I can understand restrictions to smoking. I don't think smoking should be allowed in family oriented places like Chuck E. Cheese, etc. or in grocery stores. But, if an establishment is only for adults, then the owner should have the ability to decide if it's allowed.

It was just a celebration on how well the Human Rights Campaign did. It was delicious and spectacular... though the entree wasn't too amazing.

The main focal point was the passing of the Matthew Shepherd Bill from the House and the Senate. But... the president still has to approve it.

What was the Mathew Shepherd Bill?
I live in Canada and don't listen to the news to often although that wouldn't help because we never hear much about other countries.. not really our own either..
