MiyokoxClarinetti Oooh! I don't chip my reeds very often...I might not even be in marching band cry I might go to an arts conservatory for high school :/ lol i'd rather have a woodie reed heart they are like ten times tastier. anyways, I seriously wouldm't reccomend rico reeds gonk my teacher KILLS if you use a rico...they are really...really horrible... sweatdrop eek *hides her huge box of Rico reeds she got at the Brook Mays closing sale* Funny...Rico reeds work just fine for me. I suppose it just depends on your mouthpiece. For my Ridenour mouthpiece, Vandorens aren't as difficult to blow on than Ricos. My marching mouthpiece, I can slap any woodchip on there and it works well. And you MUST be in marching band Miyoko!!!! scream It's hard at first but after that it's the coolest thing you'll ever do.

Nevira Shadowfire MiyokoxClarinetti Oooh! O___O! i love vandorens, they taste sooo good...which for me determines whether or not a reed is good :] nevira must hide in my band if she came, for mr. a might throw her clarinet across the room, "hey even if I didn't throw it, it'd still sound like bull" rofl O.o I'll stick to my dear vandorens thank you very much!!!! O_O whats up with everyone and marching band!? I mean I love the experience that I will most likely get from it, but, I just don't think I'm made for marching band, I have a huge problem with my feet, I cannot walk in high heels for a whole day, at NY i did for like four days straight, and even at the phantom of ze opera concert, my legs ached, when I walk for quite a long time, my feet turn weak and ache all over, its this type of ache thats like AGH. I get it frequently, in addition to that, I tiptoe unconciously, I sure aren't going to be loved ~_~. Plus, with what I want to do as a musician, being a virtouso/soloist/teacher [virtouso and soloist=same or not? iono] it doesn't exactly deal with the type of music Bands will play I'm sorry to say, I mean yes the experience will help but I just....I WILL admit this, I just like concert band and orchestra alot. I love being able to express myself without anyone complaining about my expression of things. plus, theres a chance I'm doing marching if I do go to DBHS, its a rule the BD has, if oyu're not in marching, you can't be in band at all ~_~. My teacher himself knows its not what I really want to do, but the experience is worthwhile. the chance of me not going is if I get into OCHSA and my parents finally say yes smile my mom actually said yes though. DON'T KILL ME scream I've noticed some band nerds are rather ignorant of other things, not trying to say you guys but others in general, they seem to distance themselves from orch dorks, yeah they are snobs I bet you, but musicians are supposed to connect, we are setting a bad example of only giving ourselves little space to move in. PLus, orchestra would give me a different type of competition, four clarinetist, yikes, thats like DD: DON'T kill me ~_~ >>

neutral The taste determines the reed...? I have never heard of this method before. rofl
You don't march in high heels...when you backwards march you go on tiptoe...and the reason your legs hurt when you walk a lot is because the muscles seize up. Stretch them out! scream *puts on hat and whistle* I am now your clarinet personal trainer! Drop and give me twenty! rofl Jay kay!
But to each her own. Marching band is a valuable experience especially if you're in a competing band and/or you're going to Bands of America and/or DCI but if you're adamant about sticking to concert band exclusively then that's fine as well. 3nodding

rofl well it oddly works for me O_O put down a rico, mitchell lurie and vandoren, you shall see! after tasting them all [must be new] start playing them! make sure they all are the good reeds of course...
rofl I know you don't march in high heels XD!
DD: AHHH!::runs away:: rofl if I ever do get into Juilliard, my DM friend said she'd teach me :]
lol I do agree its a valuable experience, for the 10 or 20 percent chance I do go to the high school I'm supposed to go to, DBHS, I'll do marching :], but for the 80 percent chance I go to OCHSA, a arts high school, I won't, for they don't have it there. [10 percent chance of=not getting in, 10 percent chance of=parents making me reject the offer if I did get in]
sweatdrop
the dbhs fight song is soo weird stare we're gonna go to the HS and play it during the football game...DDX

I just realized something in rehearsal. My section leader wears really nice cologne. blaugh I was standing next to and downwind from him in concert arcs this morning...and he's mastered the art of applying it so it's not overwhelming but you notice it in a good way. And like any decent men's cologne it scrambled my brains. @_@ heart blaugh heart

I'm baaaaaaack!
Sorry, I've been crammed with homework and band practice and other stuff like going white water rafting with hott boy scouts and my grandma (who is like a saint) dying and such.
As for the Rico vs. Vandoren debate, I feel that it needs my input because I'm cool like that. Okay. Remember like a week or two ago I told you that I got 2 Vandoren 4s? yeah. So I tried them both and now I shall give a full reveiw on them compared to the Rico Royal 4 I used before that. Both Vandoren reeds made me sound like my cousin when she tried a 3.5 when she normally uses a 2. (which, incase you don't know how it sounds, you need to blow pretty hard to make a good sound, and even then it's fuzzy.) It was very hard to play the repeated stacatto eighth notes in China Grove. Like it took longer for me to get the sound out. I also squeaked more this week than I ever have in the past year. But I've only ever had those two vandorens, so the results may not be accurate. As for the Royal 4, it was more responsive, 99.9% squeak-free, and made a nice sound. Now, I've only ever tried one Royal reed, so the results may not be accurate. As for the regular ricos, I used them for about 4 years and they sounded pretty good and were responsive. But to counter that debate again, my friend Chelsey couldn't get her thumb-and-register-key C, so she thought something was wrong with her clarinet. I tried it, and it made a clearer and prettier sound than my own. She uses either a 2 or a 2.5. So basically what I'm saying is that I may be using too thick of a reed, so that could affect the results also. I apologize if I have become incoherent. It's hard for me to express myself in the form of words.
On a totally different subject, there is this guy that I really like. He is only in two of my classes, biology and band. His name is Keenan and he has medium to dark brown hair down to the bottom of his ears that starts to curl at the tops of his ears. He has brown eyes and he plays trombone. He's also in my grade. He's very nice and he's more mature than the rest of the guys in my grade. (which is saying that he acts 12 instead of 5. lol.) and all the people that I told seem to approve of him.
On a different subject once again, some funny things have happened in band. yesterday at band practice, we just finished our opener for half time and we were in our "world famous" double diamonds. I hear a clunk and I look behind me and to my right to find that chelsey's flip folder fell off her lyre and the bottom half of her clarinet fell off. I laughed my head off. And today in 7th period, we were playing 'Runaround Sue' and I catch a golden glint to my left. I looked towards it to find the trombones (all 5 of them) bobbing their instruments to the music. It was so funny to watch, I couldn't even play the rest of the song! But yeah, marching band is cool. I'm gonna try to get my parents to film the next game.

@ Nevira Wow, that reminded me of my friend. She memorized her spots from how far away her crush is. "I am 20 steps to the left and 14 back from where [insert boys name here] is." We had to all laugh at it.

Mainly because I've got a boyfriend, and he's a trumpet player on the other side of the field. rofl But hey, my mind wanders...and it's a good thing that Fearless Section Leader has good hygiene. 3nodding

I'm sorry, it just reminded me of that. Yay good hygenie. Some of our band members smell bad and then they go in and spray axe all over themselves (a lot too) in the lockers, so now our lockers smell like axe. Which some people are allergic too.

MiyokoxClarinetti anyways, I seriously wouldm't reccomend rico reeds gonk my teacher KILLS if you use a rico...they are really...really horrible... sweatdrop I use Rico. 2.5 Rico clarinet reeds and I do just fine. neutral I've used Rico and Van Doren; to me, there isn't a difference. The Ricos taste better and are softer.

That's okay, Lilth. blaugh People can be allergic to Axe...? Geez, I thought it was just because it's so *Naving* awful that everyone including me was tearing up and finding it extremely hard to breathe. Old Spice is the order of the day with the band men. 3nodding Except Andrew. He seems to think wearing deodorant is beneath him. domokun

I've played the clarinet for around 4 years and have used Rico the entire time. I find them better then the Vandorens myself but to each his/her own, I suppose.
