The once timid Applin, the very Applin that was resorting to tricks and surprise, was now going on the attack and had every intention of not letting up. This was a pure instinct driven attack, to keep going after your foe until they flee the fight or can't retaliate anymore. That might work on other wild Pokemon but this time its foe was a trainer owned Pokemon, one owned by a talented trainer like Tristen so it wouldn't be so easy as to keep rolling and rushing the foe. Tristen was quick to pick up on its plot and thus Rookidee was given a fighting chance, the bird dodging the next roll and of course the Applin would just come back around for another, not really thinking at this point. That would prove to be a mistake.

The Applin made no attempts to avoid the incoming attack, not that it could even see it coming at this point. As it rolled towards its foe again Rookidee would wait for the perfect moment to fly up off the ground and then finally deliver an attack of its own from the sky. As Rookidee came down with a furious slash of an Aerial Ace the Applin would have its momentum disrupted, the rolling apple bouncing off the ground and soaring through the air as the Applin inside let out a pained screech. Once the apple hit the ground it would bounce a few times before finally coming to a stop. For a long it laid there motionless with nothing happening, that was until the Applin itself halfway slithered out of the apple and went limp, fainting. "App...lin..." It let out one last groan before the lights went out.

"Wow, that's the first time I've seen an Applin put up such a fight." Matteo commented as he approached Tristen. "You going to eat that?" The boy asked with a laugh as he pointed at the Applin. "Joking!"

Tristen sighed a bit once the decisive blow landed. He had to agree with Matteo, that Pokémon put up a lot more of a fight than he would have given it credit for. Though Tristen was compelled to have an eyebrow raise when asked if he was going to eat the Applin’s apple, a raise subsiding when the joking comment came soon after. Tristen walked over towards his Rookidee who made a landing to check on itself. The Rollout attack was still bothering the bird and having to meet it head on as he did wasn’t the greatest either. “Good job, Rookidee. Doing good.” The bird chirped out in approval. Tristen knelt down and allowed Rookidee to cling on to Tristen’s hand. When he brought his hand up towards his shoulder, the bird promptly fluttered on over to perch on the Manectric hybrid’s shoulder.

“Well, one thing is for certain, these Pokémon are tougher than the lot that’s south of Mezagoza. I think coming out here was about right for our Pokémon to get some sort of challenge. Close calls aside…” he said, thinking back to the Scyther from earlier. “So, anywhere else you want to look?” he then asked Matteo.

"Yeah, they are bit tougher than back around Paldea's dinner plate." Matteo replied, his comment referencing Los Platos, whether or not Tristen knew that was another story though. Scanning the area with Buizel still on his shoulder Matteo tapped his chin a bit before making a decision. "Let's walk back a ways but take a different way, see if I can't find one more thing for Buizel challenge before we call it." With that said Matteo took off, expecting Tristen to follow.

As suggested the boys would head back in the general direction of Medali but took a different path, the smell of burnt grass still lingering even from a distance. Matteo would acknowledge a few Pokemon he spotted along the way but they weren't anything he wanted to send Buizel at, things like Foongus and Pachirisu. Matteo would come to a sudden stop though and began to sniff the air, looking around confused for a second. "Smell that? Smells like...aluminum free deodorant and wee-"

"Hey kids!" A woman's voice called out to the pair. From the brush came a tall woman, lugging around a giant backpack on her back. Behind her came a man half her size, however just a little under average in height, she was just that tall. "Man, smell that Celia? Someone must be smoking up- oh...hey dudes!" The man began to say, cutting his sentence off as he spotted Matteo and Tristen.

"Uh...hi?" Was all Matteo could muster up in response.

"I'm Celia and this is my boyfriend Kevin. We've been backpacking across Paldea for the past month to not only get closer to nature but also get closer to our Pokemon." The woman explained.

"Yeah dudes, it's been a blast hehe." Kevin said with a chuckle.

"Would you two be up for helping us with the second part and take us on in a double battle? We prefer to battle as a team so running into two young trainers here is like..." Celia asked, challenging them to a battle but still not finishing her train of though.

"Fate maaan!" Kevin said, finishing the sentence.

Matteo would listen to them both, giving Kevin the eye before turning his focus on Tristen to see what he thought, leaning in to whisper. "What do you think? They are weird but a battle could be fun."

Tristen would follow Matteo off with Rookidee still perched on his shoulder, helping Matteo out to figure out something that Buizel might be able to test his mettle against. He didn’t really want to leave Buizel and Matteo hanging, especially after having leading him out here to get his Litten to evolve to Torracat. Tristen would feel bad if he was the only one that seemed to have reaped the benefits of this excursion. Tristen wasn’t sure if Buizel would be up to fighting a Scyther himself, if any more was close by, if he was honest, but he needed something that might give him that good enough push like that Pokémon. Tristen would stop when the Growlithe hybrid did, speaking up when he smelled the out of place odors of the area. Something that Tristen was now starting to take note of himself, grimacing himself.

“For a second there, I thought Indie followed us out here…” Tristen said to Matteo when the two came out of hiding and introduced themselves. Tristen looked over to Matteo, thinking about it for a moment. “Well, we came out here for training ourselves.” He whispered back. “I don’t see why not. We might need to be ready for anything though. Lets let them tip their hand first…” Tristen recommended.

Matteo nodded at Tristen, then turning his attention back to the man and woman facing them. "You're on! I know a good clear place not far from here where we can battle, follow me." With that Matteo, Tristen and their soon-to-be foes would set off.

Minutes later both pairs of trainers would be facing each other down in the very same clearing where Tristen fought the Scyther earlier, that burnt smell now more prominent then ever. Matteo would give Tristen little teasing giggles once the other boy realized where he was taking them. Still though, it was suitable battlefield, especially after Litten burned it all down flat.

"Someone got a little too happy and forgot to put out their camp fire, huh? Hehe..." Kevin chuckled as he saw the place, his girlfriend asking him to focus.

"Let's get this started, shall we? One Pokemon each sound fair? If so...come on out, Girafarig!" Celia called out as she tossed her ball onto the ground, the giraffe Pokemon appearing from the ball with a neigh.

"I guess it's time for my main man to hit the scene! Slowpoke!" Kevin said, tossing his ball into the air, the device bouncing off the ground once before releasing a Slowpoke.

"Heh, both Psychics, didn't expect that from these guys..." Matteo mumbled to himself before going to grab a Pokeball. Matteo would itch to send out one of his stronger Pokemon but remembered why they were hear and looked back at his Buizel on his shoulder, the Pokemon just itching for a fight. He could easily defeat these chumps with one of his others but alas he had to stick to the plan. "Buizel, go at it!" Matteo shouted, Buizel leaping off his shoulder and landing just in front of him, ready to fight.

Once Tristen called out his Pokemon Celia would declare the battle had begun and they had the first move.

Tristen would recall Rookidee for now, then followed his friend, and much to his surprise, Matteo lead them back to the battlefield where the fated battle with Scyther was held. Tristen would look around, not seeing the Scyther around anymore. It probably managed to get back to consciousness and went to go tend to its injuries somehow. Plenty of burns to tend to, for sure. Hopefully it won’t be back to be of a bother, especially in this Pokémon battle. He’d take a position near by to Matteo and got at the ready. The opposing Pokémon would be sent out, and Tristen’s confidence wasn’t exactly the greatest. Technically, he could beat these two easily with either Gyarados or Dragonite, but again, he wasn’t out here for them. He was wanting to train his others, like Rookidee. Sprigatito was probably not going to manage out here, being so young. Torracat now was far too worn out and needed to keep resting for the time being. There was one other which technically had a type advantage, but it wasn’t…the greatest considering. However, he probably wasn’t going to get much better of an opportunity and hopefully Matteo can get Buizel to help out for that matter. Ideally, maybe he could help Buizel evolve in this battle too. But it was just the matter of trying to make it through.

“Alright, go! Wimpod!” Tristen shouted, tossing the ball out. The ball would land onto the battlefield and in a flash, the Wimpod would materialize upon the charred battlefield.

“Wiimmpaa?”

“Easy, Wimpod. Training day, like I talked about yesterday.” The watery arthropod’s antennae shot straight up, immediately not liking the fact that it was thrusted into battle. “Hey, you got a partner for this battle. Calm down.” The Wimpod looked over towards Matteo’s Buizel, but then looked over towards the opposition, the Girafarig and Slowpoke, and one could imagine Wimpod sweating bullets right about now. “Its just like how you were helping Fela evolve Scatterbug to a Spewpa, then Vivillion. Its no different. You got this.” Tristen said, trying to be encouraging to the Wimpod. The only hope was that Wimpod doesn’t wimp out at a bad time. “Okay, I think we’re ready…” Tristen said.

Tristen quickly tried to think what to go after first, unsure what would differentiate a Girafarig and a Slowpoke from those in other regions, save for the former’s potential to evolve. While the Girafarig was a grave concern, given that to his recollection, it had a wide assortment of abilities to draw upon, the Slowpoke unnerved him a little. Behind that dopey grin belied a potential to cripple both Wimpod and Buizel in the long term, giving the Girafarig all sorts of openings. And as far as the two should be concerned, the means to take the punishment alongside. There was honestly no right answer to the situation in front of them. While he wants to think that these two hitchhikers were well out of their depth, he didn’t want to assume. At this point, he was going to commit and try to adapt. “Wimpod! Use Struggle Bug! Go after the Girafarig!” Tristen shouted.

Once again the Wimpod’s antennae shot straight up, realizing a command was made. The Wimpod scrambled about the battlefield, a lime-green aura started to shroud the Wimpod as it made the beeline for the Girafarig, then leaped out to the tall Pokémon to flail upon it.

The Girafarig was taken by surprised by the tiny little bug's sudden and erratic assault, the front head certain it was coming for it only for the bug to go right by and hit the black head in the back instead. "Fariiig!" Both heads cried out in pain as they together suffered a Super Effective hit. The front would buck up into the air out of instinct. "Girafarig! Calm down and give it a Stomp!" The hiker named Celia commanded. In that moment the startled Long Neck Pokemon would regain some of its wits, rotating around sloppily like it was trying to dance and would come back down with both of its front hooves glowing with white energy as it attempted to Stomp on Whimpod.

"Oh no you don't! Buizel! Aqua Jet to the front yellow head!" Matteo commanded, seeing an opening already to aid his ally in this battle. Without delay Buizel would launch itself off the ground with a pressurized jet of water from behind it and would slam into the front head of the Girafarig with a watery tackle. Buizel's Aqua Jet would arrived just a second before the Stomp came down, the force of the attack causing the Girafarig to sway to the side and miss its target as it Stomped on nothing. Buizel however landed hand and without grace from the sudden save, taking a bit of a tumble on the ground.

"Harsh cheap shot, man. Slowpoke, don't let them bully your friend, use Confusion on the Buizel. Put it in the clouds...hehe." Kevin said with a chuckle to himself. With its dopey grin never changing, nor did it move in the slightest for that matter, the Slowpoke's eyes would glow blue with the same blue surrounding the dazed Buizel. The aquatic mammal would only have a split second to notice the glowing before it was suddenly snatched up into the air several feet, the Buizel flailing around helplessly for a bit as the psychic force squeezed it before the Slowpoke let it go, allowing gravity to finish the rest.
