But procrastination is so fun! mrgreen
Honestly, I have this giant project coming up, and it's still far away but I can't find sources. The thing is giving me anxiety, so... it's time to distract myself. xD

XD I've procrastinated long enough on these seven articles.
Besides, this one by Pierre Nora is really interesting. He claims that history is destroying memory. o.o

I have trouble swallowing that argument. I might have to look that one up. Is it in a research journal?

Yeah, it's an article found in JSTOR. I think you should be able to access it pretty easily.
Google this:
Pierre Nora, ‘Between History and Memory: Les Lieux de Mémoire’, Representations 1989

Ah, JSTOR. That brings back fun memories of my classical civilizations electives. xD I rarely use anything but CINAHL now. D:
I think this guy is full of it. I get what he's saying, but... even passed down memories become reconstructions at some point. If you've ever played that telephone game where one person starts a phrase and passes it along, and it's a totally different phrase by the time you reach the last person, you'll know what I'm talking about. xD

I haven't finished reading the article myself because I'm running out of time, but yeah, there seem to be some parts of his argument that doesn't settle well with me. I'm skimming a criticism of his article right now, actually. Will read more about that later, but egads, I hate reading history articles with a passion. Especially on an empty stomach. x.x
I always find it funny that it's the French writers that are the most pessimistic in tone when I read these things.

Simply am. It's one of those reasons why logic doesn't apply to me much. @Tasn, I understand that person's thought. History really can destroy memory.

They are. rofl
I don't mind history articles, especially ones like this. Opinion stuff is interesting, it's the fact based stuff that bores me. xD
I think the biggest flaw with this article is just that he thinks that the loss of "memory" is so terrible. If I had to pick one to know, and not know the other, I'd choose to know history. History enables you to interact with other people and share a common past, while "memory" encourages you to think you're different or special, and being different from other people groups is what leads to prejudices, racism, etc. anyway. stare

  *waitin' for class to start*
fuuuuu....when I get home I gotta write my whole 6 page paper on the Arts and Crafts Movement. Good thing I get out of class at noon...that gives me about 10 hours to do the paper (after factoring in driving time and time spent eating)

Agreed. I prefer history over memory as it is an attempt to analyze memories and records in a way that is more neutral than memory. Yet, the biases of memory and the like also gives one insight in human nature and thought.
Kinda need both, but history is more useful to me because I can form my own opinions easier.
Oh, I'm going to have fun at seminar with Nora to discuss.

@ Ane - Sounds like me. I am terrible at doing papers in advance. I need panic to motivate me to get them done. rofl
@ Tasn - I almost wish I was going to that seminar too. xP I really get into other people's homework... I wish I had that much fun with my own.
