Zykariel turned and looked at his father, blinking in surprise. "Does that mean I can have one?" That had been so much easier than he'd thought it would be. He thought he was going to have to promise the plane nad everything in it to get one. But Malikhai had a draithix and she knew that he had a horse as well though it wasn't technically his yet. Daddy had Nym. Miss Piper had Serino and her other horses that she shared with Mommy. Why shouldn't he have one too? "Well...I don't know." Questions were good. "What kind of pet could I have?"

"I think that depends on what you want to be able to do with it. If you want something that can sleep with you, it might be smarter to go smaller. If you want something that you can ride and can live outside then bigger is always nicer. Like the horses. Although I believe Piper mentioned something about the draithix and they are inside or outsiders. Don't you have any idea about what you want?"

"Well I need to know what I can have first."

Nope, Malik was not pleased.

"A crystal eye. you haven't been able to master the most basic spells in magic yet, your barely able to hold your own in that or even in swordplay, and you want to go to Andal and have a magical crystal grafted into your face? How do you know you'll even be able to work it, and if you can do that much, sustain it enough for it to be useful?"

As far as malik was concerned, those were valid points. magical items usually required some skill to use. and it's not like this particular thing coudl just be taken off.

Arthur glared lightly at the drow and shook his head a bit. "No, you wont stop me from going, after all these years I can finally regain what sight I have lost and you are keeping me from doing it because of magic skill? I know how to use the basic elements and even use them with my sword from time to time! And also don't talk about my sword play either you have thrown so many creatures at me for the past three years it seems like I have battled the whole underdark!" No this time he'll take a stand for what he wanted, he had lost his sight a long time ago by a damn drunken human and he now has the means to get it again, he will get it. "Besides doesn't Andal's time move a lot faster than our own? My eye will heal a lot faster and I can be taught how to use it properly. I will say it again you cannot keep me from doing this." If that drow dared tried to he'll get what's coming to him, now this was the reason why he didn't want to speak to Kieran in front of Malik, that drow would find any possible way to keep him from going; maybe the guy is scared that he would run off with Isle or something.

Sevilin would be happy with none at all, or something that wouldn't try to eat, maim, chase, annoy, or trample his person. Of course that ruled out a lot of underdark things really. "No, that doesn't mean you can have one...it means I'm thinking about letting you have one. But if you want one then you have to give me an idea of sorts of what you want...pets are big responsibilities." Or maybe the child could pick something little and self sufficent...like a bat or something. Hey, he couldn't afford to feed another thing that required special food or something. But he'd throw the kid a bone. "Nothing bigger than half of Zahara when it's full grown."

Piper blinked at her husband. Wasn't that a little harsh? Arthur had been doing quite well in her opinion. She wasn't completely helpless in judging those sorts of things after all. And then Arthur more or less challenged Malik on authroity and Piper sucked in a breath before letting it out slowly and reaching over, resting a hand on Malik's arm...did not need to have him snap back at Arthur in retaliation.

Kieran cleared his throat. "Flesh threading." That was the one phrase he needed to give to explain the situation. Adding his two cents to the conversation. Though he too was quite surprised at how Arthur reacted to more or less being told no.

Isle didn't feel guilty at all. It was best to just get this out of the way right now and not have to deal with it later. And Galesen did have his valid points now didn't he? Of course he did.

Malikhai blinked at that tone his father was using and looked over to Arthur as he started yelling. Uh oh, Arthur was in trouble wasn't he? That was daddy's serious voice. He'd just stick to his food then.

"Why can't it be you? why does it have to be me?" Zahara took exception to that. What if the child wanted a horse? They got progressively bigger than she did and that would be a viable pet for her son to have. Especially since she herself raised and trained them with Piper. "What if he wants something bigger than that?"

Zykariel was thrilled. This was going so much better than he had originally thought, now wasn't it? "Well, a draithix would be small. I don't know how big they get though. Mommy, stand up."

She grumbled and tossed Sevilin an annoyed look but did as she was asked and had to hold in a chuckle when the child slipped off the bed and began to mutter as he raised his hand to different heights alongside of her. "Do you want a draithix?"

"I don't know. Malikhai has the draithix and I don't want to take anything from him but I also don't even know if I could have one of those. After all, I think Mr. Malik and Miss Piper wanted them for some reason. I don't want to upset Nym either and when Lark's draithix nuzzled me, Nym got upset."

"How about a spider?"

Zykariel shook his head. "They bite. And they hide under my bed...I don't like them at all."

She knew better than to say a snake. She remembered well the day the child had been bit. "Most pets bite if you are mean to them or they get really scared, Kariel. Even Nym bites when he feels the need."

"Well Nym would eat a spider anyway. Can I have one or not?"

Lharika blinked in surprise at Malik's tone as well and turned her attention to her father's many belts and things about his waist. She didn't want to get involved though she wouldnt' mind if Galesen came to Andal to play with her. Sometimes she missed having people play with her. Daddy Kieran did when he wasn't too busy but it wasn't the same as someone else choosing to play with her.

"Because you're smaller than I am but bigger than he is. I think it's a nice compromise." After all, that way he got a say in this. Though it seemed Zahara had to say something. "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Right now I can't afford something that's going to eat me out of house and home." Looking back to the child as he asked again. "I'll think about it. Remember what we discussed about being patient?"

Zykariel sighed, "Yes..." In other words his newfound victory might not be a victory at all. That would suck. Really, really bad. He plopped back on the bed and studied his toes which were currently devoid of boots.

She was not going to say anything on the size or compromise front, no matter how badly she wanted to. Instead she needed to get Sevilin alone again so they could discuss things. "Hey Kariel, why don't you go see Kieran. I think he's downstairs with the rest of the crew. Go see if he can't tell you how big the draithix get, hmm?" She waited for the child to rush off and then plopped back on the bed, leaning back against Sevilin's chest. She picked up his hands once again and settled them across her tiny waist overlapping each other. That's how she felt safe, enveloped in his embrace. "I'm sorry for turning into a hellcat on you. I just thought you had broken his heart and I couldn't bear for that to happen to him. He should never have to live with that...never."

Malik stood up from his seat, slamming his hands hard on the table in front of him. Arthur challenging his authority? He thought not.

"You 'mastery' of the elements is NOT what I was reffering too. you slack off every chance you get. you don't train NEARLY hard enough to master anything. you're flightly, and still thinking in human terms! magical devices like that require precise control. not something that can be taught in a few weeks, or even a few months for that matter, especially with someone who thinks first about the good looking woman within ten feet of him!"

Malik's eyes narrowed lightly.

"What you are wanting done is a permanent thing. there's no taking it out, there's no reversing it. are you sure you could master the power that you haven't even scratched the surface of here in a few days? I don't think so. You owe your life to me, and you owe a debt to Sevilin, even though you've neglected to get the training you owe him for. You are part of my House, and as such I will have a say in decisions that can render you mad or physically injure or kill you without a damned good reason! Not to mention, when you go there anything stupid you do is on Kieran's shoulders. That much I know from personal experience in the matter. the Brigade takes things very seriously. and I won't have Kieran placed in a prison again due to someone in my household. it reflects bad on this house, and myself as you are in training to be a protector of my home and my family if the need ever arises."

And here came the odd switching again. You think he'd be used to it by now. But he only gave a cough in response to anything for a moment, watching with quirked eyebrow as she leaned back against him and rearranged his hands as she wanted. Yeah, that was horribly interesting wasn't it? "Children are far stronger than one thinks, more resilient. It's not until you get older that those sorts of things get to you and break you." Hey he knew these things. And proper drow male would tell you that he didn't really get into the way his life was supposed to go until he got out of a certain stage and learned to accept things. Up until that point it was just a constant beat down reminder.

"Kytael used to tell me that was why I was prime material to be a rune mage and excell to levels that most others didn't have the time for." Of course he frowned at the piece of information, after all Kytael had turned traitor on him and Sevilin hadn't appreciated that.

See? Now this would of been much much worse, had he first got an easy okay from Kieran and then just had to deal with Malik like this having himself told no. Though she did jump a little at Malik's reaction to the situation, having guessed from Piper's actions that he may not take it well, but this was really really not taking it well...okay she'd help out a little. Thus a look to Malik. "I'll take responsibility for him while he's there...if he goes." Quickly throw that in. "I'll babysit. He won't so anything stupid." There Kieran was off the hook.

Now Kieran knew ten ways this could work in Arthur's favor, but he was an elf and with elves came a certian manner of conducting one's self. Be you family or not, you never overspoke those actually leading the House, unless you were asked or felt that your intervention was direly needed. Right now Kieran wasn't at the point and was merely being observant as he usually was anyway. And well...Arthur had made the mistake of jumping down Malik's throat the moment a negative response passed his lips. After all the particular aspects of this little endeavour didn't really rely on magical control...that was the flesh threading part that took care of it all. And he had always thought the Brigade a tad paranoid.

He gave a slight jump putting his fork down on the table and folding his hands in his lap as daddy made very nice indicating motions that he wasn't happy. Oh yes, daddy was very unhappy at this moment and he was showing it. Why did Arthur have to go and make daddy angry...

Bad bad move on Arthur's part. Rather than prompt a civil discussion about this, he had verbally attacked and challenged Malik. That was never something Malik took from anyone. She was the only one to challenge him and ever get away with it and even when they did, they had a screaming match over it first. So much for thinking Malik would hold back but she knew better now didn't she?
PostPosted: Thu Jan 18, 2007 9:02 am

Arthur just sat there, staring at the drow as he also went off yelling at him, well now he felt a little dumb because he did fly off the handle when Malik told him no but he was just pissed that everytime he tried and do something Malik always had to know why and where he went and if it was okay by his terms for him to do it. When the drow was done he still sat there and for a moment and didn't say anything until he sighed a little before he decided to speak. "I maybe flightly Malik but when it comes to something as improtant as gaining my sight back I would take it seriously, yes I know magic is a hard thing to contorl but I would have Kieran, Isle and anyone in that feild of experience to help me while I'm up there and that could let me speed up the process of learning it, but I would need the time."

Though he paused for a second before continuing at a calm natural pace, he ignored the part about thinking like a human because that still bothered him. "I had a feeling that what I want can't be taken out once it's put in, but it's a risk I'm willing to take. But you don't have to tell me what I still owe, I know that I owe you my life and I know that I owe Sevilin for training that he has put me through, even though I have stopped training with him, but that doesn't mean I wont pick it up again. But I never back down from the deals that I've made and I intend to pay them back fully with no question." Though he had to raise an eyebrow when he was told about the Brigade and looked at Kieran a little bit before he turned to Malik. "Now that's why I would of asked Isle to be my guide of sorts while I'm up there, the last thing I would ever want to do is to get Kieran in trouble for something completely stupid that I've done; and even though I live under your house do you really think I would want to give your house a bad name? Of course not! With the strict training you give me I still am glad that I can live here and even have my own place, I may slack off but that doesn't mean I'm not thankful for what you have done for me."

Though he paused for another moment as he looked at the drow, he looked him square in the eye in a non treating manner before he spoke again. "Listen I know what I am asking for you is alot but this is a good chance for me to go see the surface while I get my eye fixed. I have been down here all of my life and even though I was born here my roots are back in Andal! I may never know who my real parents are but that doesn't I can't go see the place where they have come from. I know I can live longer than humans but this is a good chance because I really don't know when Kieran would be coming back after he leaves! But I'm sorry for yelling like that before you got to understand this is a very personal manner for me, if you were in my shoes I know you would feel the same." Every single word the elf said was true, he has been wanting to get his eye replaced ever since the day he lost it, human means were stupid so he didn't get it done; but when Isle had told him of the elven metiod he had to do it, and he would do it by any means nessacary

She shivered lightly when his metal arm guard touched her bare skin and then deftly rearranged his hands again so that the metal was resting on his sleeve and neither of their bare skin. Not because it was cold, she didn't feel the temperature change but metal had a tendency to bite and pinch and she would rather be safe than sorry. She heard yelling from downstairs and winced, "Malik's on the warpath again." But her ears twitched at the sound of another name and she frowned. "Kytael? Was that your Master who taught you the art of runing? Is he still alive?"

Zykariel had just entered the dining room when Malik started yelling and the child was so startled that he had a magical outburst. The glasses on the table shattered and Zykariel's eyes widened then he toed the ground. He'd though that wasn't going to happen anymore?! And now...he was going to feel icky the rest of the day. "I'm sorry..."

Lharika wasn't happy at Malik's yelling either and she slipped out of her chair and laid her head against Kieran's arm. Tugging lightly she whispered, "What kind of elf is Galesen, Daddy Kieran?" She screamed in surprise when the glasses broke, not used to that kind of thing at all and the next second she had buried her face in Kieran's arm completely, her little body trembling.

Zahara herself jerked at the sound of the shrill scream from downstairs and shook her head, "What in the hell are they doing down there? Torturing a small, helpless animal?"
PostPosted: Thu Jan 18, 2007 12:46 pm

Hey, long as it wasn't his kid screaming and Malik was doing the yelling, it was by far alright. Though he did sense that magical pulse, but nothing was wrong with the child...probably just startled what with the yelling. "Sounds like Arthur's gone and got himself in trouble with Malik."

Shaking his head again before looking back to Zahara. "Kytael...I would hardly call him Master now. But yes, he taught me my runics. I became a master before most at a rather young age...takes two hundred years to complete training...I started at eighty nine. Still a child really...by Andalian standards." A light shrug, shifting a little. "He's still alive...though I don't know how he's living now. He doesn't teach anymore."

And there went the glasses...needed to work on that still. But Piper merely looked over to Zykariel. "It's alright, come here." Motioning the child over to herself.

Kieran pushed his chair out, pulling Lharika up onto his knee. The child has always been easy to disturb, but that was normal considering what she had gone through before Kieran got her. He thus to bring that feeling of comfort, merely ignored the glass as if it never broke, and continued on with her question in a quiet tone so as not to override the...conversation...Arthur and Malik were having. "Well...I suppose by Andalian standards he would be a wood elf, slightly rare or perhaps a Bridge whom takes after wood. I don't know what kind of elves Labyrinth had."

"Arthur's become the resident troublemaker. Seems like just yesterday Malik was always in a huff and yelling at me." She'd taken a bit of pride in her ability to rile the blue elf with only the slightest provocation. Push the right buttons and Malik got angry enough...sometimes he turned purple. It was rather entertaining to see. But she settled back again after the disturbance resting her head quite comfortably in the space created between his neck and shoulder. It would be incredibly easy to begin kissing his neck, she thought briefly then pushed the thought away. Now was not the time to be distracting him or herself with sex. Sevilin was in no shape for that sort of thing. "And you wonder why I don't want to become a Master. Two hundred years? I haven't even been alive that long." She mused over that for a moment, she really was nothing more than a baby elf to him. But then Piper and Malik were the same way and they were married and 'in love' so she didn't see anything to write home about. "How come you've never mentioned him before?"

Zykariel kept his eyes on Malik the whole time and very carefully crossed what seemed like a horribly large room to stand over by Piper. He had a feeling she wasn't going to yell at him but he stood there at her leg just waiting, small glances thrown back at Malik. Last time he'd had an outburst Malik had been really, really angry with him.

Lark clung to him, her trembles slowly quieting down as she partook of that unique brand of comfort only her Daddy Kieran or Mama Fianna could give. "Like Piper? Then he'd be okay in Andal right? Why's Malik being so mean?" Taking the cue from Kieran to keep her voice at a whisper.
PostPosted: Thu Jan 18, 2007 1:11 pm

He shrugged and gave a cough or two. "The training is slow, four sections, fifty years each. It's either do it that way or rip yourself apart pushing too fast. Most stop at a hundred years." Though he was quiet a moment as she prodded more on Kytael. Why was she was she asking so many questions about his past? "He turned his back on me, so why should I give him even my thoughts?"

She reached out and pet a hand through the boy's hair lightly, "We can get new ones, but you have to learn to hold that inside when you feel it. I'm sure you'll be working on it." Pulling out the chair next to her and patting it, indicating for him to take a seat for the moment.

"He'd manage. Though Malik isn't being mean, he's merely worried. Like when I want to go to the Peninsula, and Lateef yells and me and such, or as Elaria says, the way Ahkallyn yells at me." Wow...quite a few people yelled at him over things.

"I stopped long before then, though I can almost do a few low level runes in a row with my own energy without getting a nosebleed and for me that's a pretty impressive achievment. I mastered walking with strings last year and almost threw a party for myself when I passed that milestone. Of course that's nothing to you, but I was impressed." She was counting those coughs and he was going to either be in a corner or flat on his back while she examined his throat before he took reverie tonight. Another dose of saltwater too. She should stop asking him questions but her curiosity was piqued. "Because you ran from Andal?" She assumed his teacher had to know the circumstances he was being taught under. "Or did he give up after all the times your hands were messed with?"

"My teacher taught me control this morning and I got it down there. I thought I could control it..." He pouted lightly even though she hadn't yelled at him as he climbed up into the chair she'd patted for him. All he'd wanted to do was talk to Kieran and now he was stuck in the dining room where Malik was unhappy. Malikhai didn't look too happy either and Zykariel offered him a tentative smile of support.

"Grandpa doesn't understand you. And I dont' think he likes Mama Fianna too much. Besides Uncle Lateef gets upset every time you want to step out of your office. He's just silly like that, even Isle and Aunt Caprice say so."
