Depends like how big? Some shops can get the huge ones out but little bumps aren't going to affect your sound.

Its the lead pipe dents you mostly need to worry about

Yeah, small dents on the bell you don't need to worry about, but if it's a big dent (or you just want to make it look nicer 3nodding ) take it to a professional to remove, it's really not that expensive.

If you are set to remove the dent on your own (which i don't advise doing) look up some how to videos and guides, you have the internet at your disposal.

My Mello is so broken! It's really old and has a ton of dents, not to metion it's not well made. So much for using a school horn- one of the pistons is too loose and so the horn buzzes when I push down anything involves the first piston.

On top of that, all of the slides except one are so old that they won't open, making my horn flat or sharp regardless 24/7.

There was a really good Mellophone story in our group. A few years ago, one of our mello alumni ended up getting back into and the pain made him blled. There's still blood in the horn, and this year our section leader, Eric, has that horn. Poor Eric, must be an awful taste! Mica said when he got hit, he went to empty the spit valve and all of the blood ran out. It was totally disgusting!

:3 My horn has totally crapped out on me and so I can't practice the National Anthem for Marching Band this weekend. Oh well- I'll fill in my coordinates in my dot book...

Most of the mellos at my school don't have any slide that move, so we just tell the freshman to bend the pitch for tuning XD, I have a new Marching Horn that sounds wonderful, but it's in Bflat scream so annoying

We have this one mello though that has a hole in it covered with duck tape and sounds horrible. rofl

Coming from someone who does this sort of work (me) I can help for simple at home repairs, I suggest having anything done you should take it to professional, unless you 110% confident you know what your doing.

(yes i know what im doing i went to school for all this and work at my mom's local store smile )

Oh I'm new by the way smile

I love playing french horn. biggrin
Although I do hate that 99% of marches for the horn are seriously just off beats.
Come on now John Philip Sousa...

My favorite march is Stars and Stripes. For me it's the most fun march to play on horn. Anyone else enjoy marches? I know most are boring though.

I like how they sound, I just don't like having the most boring part out of everyone in the band xD But like I said, I guess that's not always the case
We played the Klaxon march toward the beginning of the year, and horns have the melody at one point.
Also, my band has an annual concert in the middle of May every year, and our finale is always the armed service songs, followed by Stars and Stripes Forever. biggrin

The Chimes of Liberty March the horns get the melody too. I've played it with three or four different ensembles over the years.
