 Sosa n' McGwire were named SI's Sportsmen of Year for stagin' their thrillin' home run race in 1998.

 Sosa joined 500 home run club on April 4, 2003, in a 10-9 win at Cincinnati.

 Sosa's reputation suffered after his bat shattered in a June 2003 game against Devil Rays n' it was found to have cork in middle. Some of his bats donated to Hall of Fame were even X-rayed for evidence of cork, though none was found.

 Closest Sosa came to playin' in a World Series was in 2003, when Cubs blew a 3-1 lead to Marlins n' lost in 7 games.

 Testifyin' in front of Congress in March 2005, Sosa denied ever havin' used "illegal performance-enhancing drugs" n' said that he never "injected myself or had anyone inject me with anything."

 After an ugly breakup with Cubs, Sosa played 2005 season in Baltimore, battin' only .221 with 14 home runs before decidin' to take all of 2006 off.

 Sosa became only 5th player in major-league history to hit 600 home runs with this blast against his former team, Cubs, on Wednesday in Arlington, Texas.

Here are some NBA Draft Steals of years past John Stockton, Utah Jazz | No. 16 -- 1st round, 1984  Michael Jordan (3rd pick in 1984) n' Larry Bird (6th pick in 197 cool easily could headline this list, but focus here is on high-impact players chosen in middle of 1st round or later. There's no better example of this than what Jazz did with 16th n' 13th picks in consecutive years. Utah parlayed those selections into 2 of finest players to play their positions, startin' with Stockton, NBA's all-time leader in assists n' steals.
