" Why is it that females are assigned to the color pink, and males to blue? Ever heard the phrase 'real men wear pink'? "

Kahlilia looked over at Roman with a small smile, scratching Ariel gently behind the ears. Both of them were still completely soaked, but somehow there became something similiar to an immunity or ignorance of it. She didn't know if that was good or bad, but she didn't really mind either.
There was the memory of first meeting Phoenix when Roman mentioned his past behaviors, and she nodded. I noticed that too, she said softly. I'm glad hes changed ... she said that last bit without realizing, and this time didn't catch herself. Although a slight rosy color arose in her dainty cheeks in releasing her impulse, she did nothing else.
However, Lily's attention was quickly brought back to the present when she heard Roman's possible idea. He had done that yesterday - he said he had a thought and forgot it, so in that case it was not important. Not sure what to make of it, but alert nonetheless, she looked up again and asked simply, What?
" Theres always tommorow, unless the world explodes today. In that case, you're pretty much f -- ked. "
Even though it might have been dangerous, Xavier looked down directly into Esmeralda's frozen eyes. He couldn't detect any emotion other than the anger that was now being directed at Summer and himself, and damn it he wanted to find out the reason.
Okay, I'll take that as a no. The words he spoke were usually used in departing, but he showed no sign of backing down. There was no way he was going to let her win [this] battle, because God knows she would probably try to kill herself in the room alone. Look, he said in a suddenly calm voice, Would he have wanted it this way? Think about it. Xavier could have been referring to either Dev or Roman, maybe both. Right now he wanted to try to get her to open up in some way that wasn't harmful. If using was the way to it, then he would take that until it went to hell. Which it probably was going to, he realized. Mayday, Mayday. Not showing fear other than raising his eyebrows when she threw her head back almost unnaturally, he immediatly moved to keep the door open. The sudden pain in his hand be damned. He shook his head again, wondering if Summer had done this exact same thing. Hell, they would probably wind up with his and her injuries, like some morbid couple set. Currently, he was unaware that Summer could actually hear them right now.

((OOC: Am I the only one getting funny vibes from Ez and Xavier's interaction? >.> Will post with Roman later. Am having too much fun with Ez right now.))
Esmeralda whipped around to him, her face abruptly going cold and set. "Guess I'll never know, will I? Get out." It was said in a tone of absolute and abrupt weariness as her body told her she was beginning to cause herself some serious grief with her antics. The anger drained out of her tone, leaving her quiet but chilly. "Just get out."
Not waiting to see if he did or not, she let go of the doorknob, turned her back on him and walked to the bed. Although she seemed to want to throw herself on it, maybe scream while she did so, she lowered herself gently instead, wrapping her arms almost protectively around herself.
Under the pillow was her paper knife. If Xavier didn't leave, Esmeralda wasn't above bringing it out again. Not to actually attack, this time - she was too drained, too exhausted, to make herself do that. But just to warn him off. Damn it, couldn't people just leave her alone?

" Theres always tommorow, unless the world explodes today. In that case, you're pretty much f -- ked. "
Xavier was surprised but somehow relieved when Esmeralda's destructive energy started to wear down. It would be a while to completely calm her down, and in the worst situation the rest of the summer. At the moment, as he looked away briefly as she walked off; he tried to put two and two together. He'd figured it out a second ago, but some part of it still didn't make sense. There was some sort of ... strange thing that played as an underlying cause. Obviously these were not his exact thoughts, but they were close enough in meaning. Now just to find out what it was.
Once he looked back at Esmeralda, he saw her looking suddenly ... weak? There was no exact answer to the expression portrayed in her eyes. The question again, repeating itself endlessly now: what exactly was going on? What had happened in the last hour that made her shoot from tired and mildly amused to slightly violent and angry? Now he made his second possibly dangerous move. He walked over cautiously to where he stood a little more than five feet away from her. He had to try a different tactic. Alright, Xavier said evenly to the girl, voice low and currently calm as he looked away again for a moment. When he finished his sentence, he was looking from her to some immensely fascinating spot on the wall. Distractions, so it seemed. Don't try to hurt me because I won't hurt you ... hn, I guess ... you're feeling enough of that already. He ran a hand through his hair, with one hand now stuffed in his pocket as he seemed to fumble with words. For all he knew, he was in danger to stay in this room with this girl. I ... damnit, I want to repay you ... and believe me, I won't go away until I do ... I know somethings wrong. Girl stuff, whatever it is. He stopped talking then, trying to think back. She'd had some sort of accident that caused her a concussion, and he'd never known the severity of it. Hormonal imbalance, girl intuiton, it was all stuff he didn't like hearing about. But what the hell caused that?
Illnesses ... or pregnancy?

((OOC: XD If you have to ask, then you obviously are not getting them. >.>))
Esmeralda's hand slipped under the pillow, quietly feeling around for her paper knife, when Xavier approached her. Pulling it out at last, she turned it around idly in her hands, her eyes rising to meet his. "Repay me?" she asked, a soft, disbelieving laugh following the words. "Repay me for what? Whatever imagined slight I gave you before? Whatever it is that had you flipping out on me?" No one could ever say that Esmeralda missed her lines. And she didn't forget her lies.
Shaking back her dark curls, she said coolly, "Okay, fine, I am repaid. I'm broken and crying in a corner due to the sheer massiveness of the repayment you put on me. Okay? Now will you leave?"
At his next words, however, she stiffened. Her eyes, which had actually begun to liven up slightly, went icy again. Girl stuff? Girl stuff? God, if she had the energy right at the moment she would have stabbed the creep. But maybe that would get rid of him when nothing else would. "Yeah, something's wrong, and yeah, it's girl stuff," she said coolly. "Nothing a manly man like you would want to hear about, I'm sure. So you can go on and get out now. Go drink some whiskey or whatever it is that you masculine types do." It was said with just enough sarcasm to be a rather masterful put-down.
She went pale suddenly, and had to shift back, leaning back against the wall behind her bed. In that position, she looked...tired. Fragile, almost. Not quite weak - she was too vicious with her tongue for that. But fragile, almost delicate, yes. Without thinking about it, her hand shifted to rest gently above her abdomen. She didn't break their locked gaze - so what if he found out? She didn't care what he thought.

Summer began to get worried the longer Xavier was over there. She started pacing back and forth in her room and then went into the hall and saw that Es's door was open. She walked quitely over to the door and started listening to the converstaion.

" Theres always tommorow, unless the world explodes today. In that case, you're pretty much f -- ked. "
Xavier backed away a mere step when he saw the paper knife Esmeralda was holding, his icy eyes suddenly saying the words Don't you dare. He kept that look as she talked to him in that same chilly voice, knowing that if he spoke he would attack physically. Truth be told, he was very short fused and he was surprised he was so far holding up. Guessing, deep down there were an uncountable number of rea -- Summer? The wooden floors didn't silence footsteps. In response, he straightened his posture and looked back at Esmeralda. Wait ... so now you're saying I did this? Well, nevermind. Just as he finished his sentence, she insulted him in that oh so sneaky way. Well, he thought angrily, You've learned from them then. Damnit, I'm going to have to go to them next. Xavier had bristled and scowled slightly when the girl infront of him had continued to be a b***h. Why wasn't he just walking out and punching the wall? He wasn't exactly sure. What his motivation was had suddenly drifted away. What ... the ... hell.
He had actually walked a few feet away from the door - and Summer, who he was currently unaware of - then he looked back at her and saw the fragile look ... the one he had seen flicker for a split second was no longer some mirage. There was still that missing puzzle piece ... It would take a little while more for it all to click together, as it had when he found out about Nanina; but when it did he was sure of himself. He shook his head slowly and walked a little ways back to her, giving him the illusion of pacing. So what are you going to do now? He wasn't looking at her anymore, his head was bowed and his hands were back in his pockets. But when he did look at her again, he was pale too and his eyes were aloof. He really wasn't sure what to do. Girl stuff be damned, what was going on? The girls outnumbered the guys at the ranch, and he had in the past thought that arousing, but now it was just confusing and rather strange. What had they all gotten themselves into?

( OOC // You guys just never stop. To be honest, in my perspective its rather amusing. xD)

((OOC: Mine too. Mine too. biggrin But, just so you know, when Ez was talking about being 'broken and crying in the corner', she was just being sarcastic.))
Esmeralda coldly lifted a brow at him. "If you did it, you are clearly a magician," she replied flatly. "Managing to be in two places at the same time. However, if someday I find out this did have something to do with you, trust me, you won't be able to run far enough." Her eyes had kindled again, looking somehow both hotter and darker than before.
She saw the anger that flashed in his eyes when she made the crack about his manliness, and a small, satisfied smirk crossed her lips briefly. That had certainly hit where it counted. But her cold smirk faded when he glanced back at her and saw the fragility that she'd tried to hide.
At his question, she paled further and looked away. It was the same question she had been asking herself ever since she'd received the letter. Despite her best attempt to hide it, her eyes grew bright with tears that she refused to let out. "I don't know," she whispered, turning away from him in an attempt to hide this pathetic weakness. "I just don't know." She felt utterly empty, totally defeated. There was nothing left now.
Nothing left. Why did she even bother?
~
Roman shoved back his still-damp hair with a tired smile. Phoenix's tail lashed once, but then the horse nuzzled Roman's arm lightly and all seemed forgiven. "He hasn't, not really," explained the boy. "I think he was always like this. He was just...protecting himself, before. I would have done the same in his place, I guess."
And wasn't that exactly what he was doing with Lily? he thought. Protecting himself until he felt safe with her?
Pushing it aside, he blinked at Kahlilia's question. "Oh. I was going to say we should take Ariel for a walk up and down the aisles for a while - let Kelly have a break. But then I reconsidered. Kelly probably wouldn't want to be separated from her baby, even if it meant time to relax."

" Why is it that females are assigned to the color pink, and males to blue? Ever heard the phrase 'real men wear pink'? "

Lily walked over after a moment or two, cautiously reaching a hand out to pet Phoenix's nose once she was close enough. Both she and Roman were completely wet from the rain, but they had also both come to ignore it. Mostly, at least.
She looked from Phoenix to Roman with no movement other than in her eyes for a few moments, then seemed to understand slowly and nodded. Yes, it did seem to make sense, she thought. Wouldn't most have done that? Thinking of 'trust' always brought her mind to the blindfold game where a partner of sorts takes your arm and leads you around, and away from danger. You opened your eyes a few times, sure, and who wouldn't? Trust was hard, slow, and toiling to build and in a single clap it could be shattered. Even so, it was one of the most important things a person could have ... And then in the end, your blindfold is taken off. You look back at the obstacles, and then at your partner. All it took was that two minute walk, was the thought of most afterwards. But was it really that simple? No, of course not. Because theres always that strange sense of knowledge, deep in the corners of the mind ...
She had glanced over at Kelly again for a moment, noticing Ariel's chattering had stopped abruptly. The foal was either nursing or getting ready to sleep as well. Besides, we should probably go back, There was a hint of a smile as Lily ran a hand through her wet, naturally darkened hair to test its dampness. I don't think its raining anymore anyway. Not for now, at least. It was true - the sky was still dark with angry clouds, but instead of rain there was just the lightning, wind, and rolling thunder. Thankfully, none of the three were strong enough to be potentially dangerous ... yet ...
" Theres always tommorow, unless the world explodes today. In that case, you're pretty much f -- ked. "
For a split second, Xavier cracked a smile when Esmeralda said that to him. Remembering how she had acted when he had 'escorted' her and Summer to the mess hall, she seemed to be acting a bit more like herself. Just a tiny bit. Hopefully, the progress would continue ...
Ah, but of course he thought too soon. He had not seen her smirk, granted, but did catch another split-second-probably-illusion glance of tears. He just continued to live on the line of danger today - he walked over and bent down, his six foot four height a little too tall to stand there and talk to her while she lay on the bed. Thus, he usually disliked ceiling fans. Extremely cautiously, he reached out for the paper knife in a gentle attempt to confinscate it. Better safe than sorry, but right now she was really ... imbalanced? There were no exact words to describe the sudden withdrawl of feelings that were in him. Now Xavier didn't know what to say. There was still no way in hell he was leaving, but there was just ... something that seemed unfixable. So what do you tell the victims? Apologies don't work, all they do is exacerbate the bad news. Silence occasionally worked, but what more did it acheive other than unknowingness? No, he remembered, he would keep his masculenity - no matter what. No matter what, we'll always be together ... Do you ... want to talk about it ... ? This was as potentially dangerous as saying the two words 'girl stuff' was. But if she handed over this paper knife, all would be well. Hopefully, at least.
