Blood_Pearl
I decided to go Space Marines. I don't really know how to make my own chapter. Neither do i wanna follow one of the chapters. Can i just pick units from different chapters and combine them into my own chapter? Also Can someone link me to like a Unoficial codex? I just wanna see what all the troops look like and all of there names.
Hey, Blood_Pearl. I tried something like that once, a mix-mash of all the different chapters. I called it the Forsaken, since the concept was that a bunch of different companies from different chapters got stranded together on this one planet and were abandoned for decades. It didn't work out. Trust me, it got a LITTLE complicated, such as having Dark Angels Ravenwing Landspeeders racing around a Blood Angels 'Furioso' Dreadnought, or having a Space Wolves Blood Claws Pack nestled inside a Black Templars Land Raider Crusader.
My advice to you, is pick a single concept for your army and develop it. For example, do you want to rely on stealth and cunning or heavy firepower and long ranged weapons? Do you want an army with an abundance of Apothecaries, or one that fields dozens of Landspeeders? Do you prefer plummeting into the midst of an enemy from space via drop pods, or would you like to field large numbers of tanks and mechanized infantry units to crush your opposition underneath your armored treads? Once you've picked a concept, something which your army revolves around, then you can build on that to make your own chapter. Just to give you a helping hand, here's some examples of chapters that I've come up with.
Blood Rain- A Blood Angels successor chapter. Much like the Black Templars the Blood Rain chapter is stationed entirely upon spaceships, and are experts at planetary assualt by landing directly upon the enemy positions via drop pods. Since they exclusively use drop pods they field no heavy vehicles, but make up for this lack with a fair number of Dreadnoughts and Devastator Squads. They also field large numbers of Assualt Squads, valued for their speed, close combat ability which is vital in a drop in close range to the enemy, and deep strike capability.
Thundergods- An Imperial Fists successor chapter, stationed upon the world of Thor. The Thundergods are one of the most feverently religous and one of the richest Space Marine chapters, taking their numbers from the ranks of the Church of the Emperor. Purity seals are common amongst Thundergod units, and most leaders carry Thunder hammers as a symbol of the Emperor's might. They focus on using powerful, long ranged artillery such as Whirlwinds and missle launchers to tear their enemies apart with booming explosions, and even employ a small number of Basilisk mobile artillery platforms taken from the Imperial Guard regiments.
The Fallen- The Emperor's Glory chapter was badly devastated by a prolonged battle against an Ork Waagh! on a remote and isolated world. Twenty-five percent of the entire chapter was killed, with another fifty percent being fatally wounded and the remaining twenty-five percent being seriously wounded or maimed. The Iron Fists chapter arrived to support the chapter, saving as many Marines as they could by fitting the least wounded with bionics and placing the bodies of the most seriously wounded within Dreadnoughts. Thus the chapter became known as the Fallen, for their great amounts of dead and wounded. The chapter uses Dreadnoughts of all varieties and can call upon far more Dreadnoughts than any other chapter, while all other units are equipped with bionics.
Sons of Vengeance- During the Great Heresy, the planet of Tallarn was transformed from a lush and fertile world into a barren and arid wasteland due to virus bombing by Chaos Space Marine forces. The Tallarns demanded vengeance upon the traitor legions and the dark gods of Chaos, and after the Emperor's ascension to the Golden Throne they were given a chance to do so as a Space Marine chapter was formed from the desert dwellers of Tallarn, and given the name of the Sons of Vengeance. The Sons of Vegeance gain bonuses when fighting against Chaos forces and have access to anti-daemon weapons usually found only in the Grey Knights. They also count as Death World Veterans when fighting upon desert terrain, gaining cover and movement bonuses.
Night Reapers- When the Great Heresy occured, the Primarch Konrad Curze joined the forces of Chaos along with his Night Lords Space Marine Legion, but what is not generally known is that a small number of the Night Lords remained loyal to the Emperor and fought against their traitorous Primarch and brother Space Marines. After the Great Heresy, these loyal few were reorganized as the Night Reapers chapter. The Night Reapers are masters of night fighting and raiding and ambush missions, creeping up upon their enemies from behind to slit their throats silently or picking them off from afar with sniper rifles. As stealth is the main strength of the Night Reapers, they mainly employ infantry units with very few vehicles of any kind as engines would be heard and give away the element of suprise. They employ large numbers of Space Marine Scout Squads, especially with sniper rifles, and gain bonuses to cover and sight range when fighting at night. However they are seen as the worst sorts of trators by the Chaos Space Marines which go to great lengths to destroy them, and are rarely trusted or supported by those few in the Imperium who know of their existence.
Emperor's Mercy- The Emperor's Mercy chapter is one of the most benevolent and beloved of all Space Marine Chapters. They not only fight the Emperor's enemies but also provide relief efforts and medical aid to planets which are recovering from a war, suffering from natural disasters, starving from famine, or dying from plague. The Emperor's Mercy chapter has more Apothecaries than any other chapter, with at least one Apothecary being in each and every squad. They are the sworn enemies of Nurgle, the Dark God of Plague and Disease, and field large amounts of flamers to "sterlize" their enemies.
Wings of the Emperor- A Dark Angels successor chapter, the Wings of the Emperor chapter is based around the concept of the Dark Angels Second Company, the Ravenwing. Dedicated to fast response action, this chapter is composed entirely of Landspeeders of all varieties and Jump pack infantry. They use Landspeeder variants from all across the Imperium, and even have a few which are unique to their chapter. They are also the only chapter that can provide upgrades for their landspeeders such as turbo jets and wing mounted hunter-killer missles, and their elite units are comparable to those found in the Ravenwing.
Iron Steeds- A Salamanders successor chapter, the Iron Steeds are a mechanized Space Marine chapter composed entirely of tanks, Space Marine Bikes, and armored calvary. All infantry squads are mounted in either Rhinos, Razorbacks, or Land Raiders. They also have unlimted access to all variants of Space Marine tanks such as the Blood Angels' 'Baal' Class Predator or the Black Templars' Land Raider Crusader, and even have a very small number of Imperial Guard Leman Russ tanks. Furthermore, since the Iron Steeds chapter can take a tank as a HQ or Elites choice as well as a Heavy Support choice, they can field much more armor than the standard Space Marine chapter.
Well, there you go, just a few examples of unofficial chapters that I've come up with myself. See? It's not so hard, just decide what you want your chapter to have a lot of or be good at, pick a concept based on that, and build an entire history and organization around it. I hope that I helped, and good luck on building your army.
