Matteo would take note of what Tristen was referencing and simply gave him a thumbs up before finding a stumble to sit down on and tend to the singed patches of his Buizel's fur, taking out a brush from his backpack to try and at least make its coat look a little better.
The Steenee, which was enjoying a simple frolic through the woods on this warm sunny day, was caught completely off guard by Tristen and Litten as the stream of fire emitting from the feline churned around and quickly formed a vortex of searing flames. "Ste-stee!?" The girly little Pokemon cried out in shock as it stopped itself in mid-skip, clutching its hands against its chest as it winced in pain from the flames. Scanning its surroundings it would spot the creator of the Fire Spin it now found itself trapped inside, an unfamiliar Pokemon but clearly a threatening Fire type.
The was one thing about evolved wild Pokemon, they were more experienced than unevolved ones, evolving through their experiences in the wild and surviving. As such this Steenee had a trick up its sleeve for getting out of this situation. "Stee steeee!" The Fruit Pokemon cried out as it held its arms out on the sides and then raised one leg and bent it inward before beginning to turn around and around performing a pirouette. The speed of its spin would increase rapidly and drastically until it was emitting shock waves which disrupted the Fire Spin as it began to falter. The next thing Tristen and Litten knew the Steenee was Rapid Spinning right through the vortex, dispelling what was left of it, and then crashing into Litten. After ramming Litten it would stop its spin, do a little ballerina pose, and then bow. "Steenee!" Show off.

“Litten! Look out!” Tristen tried to warn his fire cat as it tried to maintain its fiery vortex around the grass type. The flames got parted and smothered from the sheer force of the Steenee’s spinning then started to blaze a trail towards Litten, smacking the cat as it went on by. And to put salt on the proverbial wound, a pose, borderline taunting. “Really?” Tristen then asked, rather deadpan. “Litten, you okay?”
The cat was back on his feet, shaking his head. The attack wasn’t that strong, though it did catch him off guard, surprising in fact with how it managed to break the Fire Spin relatively easily. “Nyyaro!” Litten spoke up.
“Okay then! Try Flamethrower!” He commanded. The cat reared back then unleashed a large stream of fire towards the pirouetting Grass type, needing to make up for a little lost ground for trying to lock down the grass Pokémon as he tried to do.

"Steenee!?" Cried the Fruit Pokemon as it noticed the first flicker of flames from the cat's mouth, the child-like Pokemon then proceeding to leap straight up into the air to try and avoid the Flamethrower. Unfortunately for the Steenee it was not quick enough and its left leg was caught in the flames. "Nee!" It cried out in pain before it pulled its leg up and began to blow on it to relieve the pain, all while still in midair, almost like a cartoon character.
Landing with a stumble and then a limp the now heavy breathing Steenee glared at the Litten and decide it was going to bring the pain however it could, how dare it burn its dainty legs! "Nee nee!" It shouted at Litten as it pointed an accusing hand at it, calling Litten a bully or something to that effect. With its accusation lobbied Steenee would take another leap off the ground, this time with more powerful behind it and come down upon Litten with both feet empowered with Normal energy as it executed a Stomp. Looks like it was practicing for evolution one day.

Litten looked appaled as much as he did confused and Tristen couldn’t help but to sweatdrop a little bit. He wouldn’t say it, but while he was primarily at fault for instigating the battle, Steenee wasn’t necessarily wrong. It got Tristen to be reminded that it was just one of those reasons why Pokémon battling in any competitive fashion didn’t appeal as much as it probably could have otherwise, or at least that is what it felt like some of the time. It did come off making him feel a little bit like a bully, even though this was all in the name of training. He’d shake the notion for the time being. It was a little too late to back down now.
Even if Tristen figured to call the battle off, the Steenee wasn’t going to let Litten at least off the hook as it started to rush towards the cat, taking a leap and driving both feet down to stomp on the fire cat. “Litten, watch it!” Tristen would shout to the cat. The cat leaped back as the Steenee came down, the impact fierce as it was. Tristen was left astounded. To his recollection, that was generally how Steenee evolved was learning the likes of that. And given the ferocity that the grass type came down, he started to realize he perhaps had Litten antagonize a bit more dangerous of a Pokémon than he initially given credit for.
“Litten! Bite it!” Tristen shouted. At this point, all bets are pretty much off. If this Steenee was near on the cusp of evolution, then even with a type advantage, this was going to not end well for Litten if it does. While it was still possible to fight it even as a Tsareena, Tristen really didn’t want to take that chance with Litten. Litten needed to put this plant down.
The cat would rush in, trying to get in before it tries to get Litten underfoot again. The cat would leap, fangs out and ready to clamp down on the Steenee.

Steenee was too distracted in its personal achievement in actually pulling off the Stomp to see the Litten coming, the cat pouncing and clamping down on one of the Steenee's 'hair' appendages. "STEEE!" The Pokemon cried out as the cat's fangs sunk into its pleasant smelling flesh. Immediately the Fruit Pokemon began to run, panicking as it didn't immediately know what to do in order to get the pain of the Bite to stop, almost like it had flinched in that moment...kinda. Continuing its panicked run the Steenee wouldn't see the large branch on the ground and would run right into it, tripping over it and sending them both tumbling along the ground. The Steenee would roll right into a tree with a hard 'thump' and just as it was beginning to straighten up an Applin would be shaken loose from the tree overhead and bonk the Steenee right on the noggin.
"Stee...nee..." The Fruit Pokemon whined after the Applin hit it and then rolled away, the Steenee swaying a bit as it sat on the ground as if it was confused. Eventually the middle stage Pokemon would succumb to all the chaos and fall backwards against the tree, knocked out cold. Steenee fainted.
"Uh that was...something?" Matteo commented as he walked up to Tristen from behind.

Matteo commented as he walked up to Tristen from behind. Litten held on tight as the Steenee panicked with the cat on it. The cat honestly didn’t really know what to do himself other than hang tight and hope for the best. “Litten! Let go of it!” Tristen shouted. The command however didn’t so much as fall on deaf ears, as it was that who knows what would have happened if he got bucked off in the grass type’s panic. In truth, it would have looked comical otherwise, if it weren’t for Tristen trying to get the cat to break away for his safety. Litten wouldn’t get the chance to reconsider that decision, however, once the grass Pokémon tripped and the cat flopped on the ground and the Steenee kept rolling and hitting a nearby tree, shaking a Applin out for a coup de gras of sorts. Tristen walked up close by to check up on Litten then looked over at the Steenee, with Matteo close behind to meet up with him. “What…did I just watch?” Tristen asked Matteo, though not really expecting an answer, all the same left dumbfounded over the antics of the past moment. “Litten, you okay?” Tristen then asked. “Mrrrooow…” The cat mewed out, managing to stand back up and shake his head a bit. The tumble was a bit rough. Regardless, Tristen was hoping that there could have been signs of progress in Litten’s evolution, but with the battle turning out the way it did, it probably didn’t feel any where near earned. It wasn’t hard fought. Tristen went over towards the knocked out Steenee and checked on the grass Pokémon for a second. He would try to tend to its injuries, though honestly, it was more of a bump of the head with the Applin landing on it, but also would tend to the grass type’s burn on its foot. Once it would come to, it should probably be feeling fine. “Well, so much for that battle…your turn.” Tristen said to Matteo.

Matteo chuckled slightly at Tristen's reaction to the previous battle, then proceeding to scan the area a bit before proceeding to walk deeper into the woods. After just a few minutes of walking Matteo would spot something he thought might be a halfway decent target and while it wasn't weak to Water it was at least neutral to it and seemed like it would put up too much of a fight; a Komala. Sitting on the ground with its back against a tree hugging its log was the tiny slumbering koala Pokemon.
"Check it out, easy pickings." Matteo said with a smug grin as he pointed at the Komala, turning to his Buizel. "Give that furball a wake up call! Use Aqua Jet!"
"Bui-bui!" Buizel shouted as a surge of water surrounded it before launching itself off the ground and flew through the air until it crashed into the Komala with an burst of water, sending the sleeping Pokemon bouncing off the tree and flying a few feet away. As it landed the Pokemon just laid there on its back, still snoozing.
"...huh? It's still sleeping? After that? Okay then...Buizel, another Aqua Jet!" Matteo declared, confident of his chances in this encounter.
Like before Buizel would gather water around itself and use it to launch itself at its opponent, however this time just as Buizel was about to crash into the Komala it leaned up off the ground and used its log like a bat to smack the airborne Buizel with fierce might as it executed a Slam to send Buizel flying away and slamming into a nearby tree violently.
"What in Arceus' name!? Buizel!" Matteo shouted as he ran up to his Pokemon, helping it up off the ground. It was still in this fight but for now Buizel was seeing tiny Torchic. Looking to the Komala that was now on its back again sleeping Matteo would look to Tristen for answers. "What is wrong with that thing?"

Tristen would pick up Litten and carry the cat off, following Matteo to find the next mark to go train on. When the Growlithe hybrid called out ‘easy pickings’ Tristen looked ahead and saw what he was talking about. Tristen grimaced slightly for a second, not really expecting the likes of a Komala out in these parts. Technically, Matteo wasn’t wrong, but… “Uh…you might wanna-“ It was a little too late, Matteo was having the Buizel commit to the attack. When there didn’t seem to be that much of a reaction out of the Komala after the initial attack, Matteo decided to press his and his Buizel’s luck, only for the Komala to make him regret it.
Tristen followed Matteo over to his Buizel’s side to give it a look over. The water Pokémon looked a little cross-eyed for the second but it would be able to shake it off. “Matteo, Komala are almost like Abra in that they’re almost always asleep.” Tristen said. “And they can literally fight that way. Meaning that in Komala’s case, it changes how you got to approach it. You won’t know if it actually is on its guard or not, and worse, you’re not going to be able to cripple it like you would like any other Pokémon like with Thunder Wave or with poison. And worse, because its always asleep, it might be able to use attacks that only works while asleep, like Snore. Even though its asleep, it now ‘knows’ something is out here because of your first attack. You and Buizel are going to need to be careful. Treat it like another Pokémon battle, not ‘easy pickings’.”

"...it sleeps...all the time?" Matteo responded to Tristen in disbelief, looking from the boy to the slumbering Pokemon and sighed. "Sorry about that, Buizel, that's my mistake..." He apologized to his Pokemon as he stood up, Buizel waving at its trainer as if to say it was no problem. With this new information Matteo proceeded with the battle at hand. "Keep your distance and use Water Gun!" The young hybrid commanded.
Drawing in breath Buizel would concentrate water and then eject it at Komala at a violent and concentrated stream, the Water Gun slamming into the sleeping Pokemon and sending it rolling across the forest floor. The Komala would come to an uneventful stop as it now laid snoozing in a small puddle, seemingly unbothered but certainly took damage. However Komala didn't lay there for long before it sat up and then proceeded to do a handstand on its log, much to Matteo's bafflement.
"W-what?" Was all Matteo could get out, Buizel also confused.
The next thing they knew Komala was spinning around and around violently along with the log like the two were one oversized top, the bear now gliding across the ground with Rapid Spin and soon slamming into Buizel.
"Fight back, Buizel! Use Aqua Jet! You can do it!" Matteo instructed his Pokemon.
Finding the power within it thanks to its trainer Buizel would brace itself against the ground with its feet and tails and resist the spinning Pokemon just long enough to generate its shroud of water and slowly but surely push back the Komala with Aqua Jet. For a second there the forces seemed equal until Buizel gained the upper hand, pushing Komala back a bit until Komala lost all ground and Buizel swept it off the ground and sent them both flying into a tree with violent might, a flock of Fletchling flinging from said tree.
Once all was done the entire area was soak, Buizel was looking exhausted, and Komala was laying face down and was no longer holding onto its log. Komala fainted. "Is...is it fainted?" Matteo asked, unsure as he slowly approached his Buizel, hesitantly picking it up and administering a Potion. Once he was more confident he walked up to the Komala and nudged it with its foot. It didn't move. "I guess it is...that was crazy." The boy said with a sigh and turned to Tristen. "You've seen a lot more different Pokemon than I have."

After giving Matteo the advice, it looked that Matteo and Buizel managed to get a better handle against the Komala. When it looked like it was not responsive any longer, Tristen would have to agree that the battle was done. Tristen looked down at the Komala to check on it, picking it up and its wooden log and putting it off to the side to hide it so that it wouldn’t get found out in the open and truly be left easy pickings by anything else in the area. Listening to Matteo, he couldn’t help but to shake his head. “Truthfully, that was the first time I ever seen one in person. I’ve read up on them and saw pictures of them here and there, which is how I recognized it, but I never seen one in person before. In fact, I am surprised to see one here; I only knew of those to be in Alola.” Tristen explained. “Still, it pretty much comes down to what I have been dealing with before coming here to Paldea. I had to try to keep up with what is out there because who knows what I’d deal with. And even then, before coming here, I wouldn’t have been able to say that I knew what a Dudunsparce was or some other Paldean Pokémon was. And I’m pretty certain that I still don’t know quite a lot. Blizz surprised me earlier with Obstagoon, for example.” “Anyways, I guess my turn now.” Tristen said. “How are you feeling, Litten?” “Nrraao.” Litten mewed out. “I still feel like we need to find something to give you that bit of a push here. I would have thought that Steenee earlier would have done it, but apparently not…” Tristen said. “Let’s go see what we can find.” Tristen would then start making his way off with Litten trotting along close by to explore more of the area.

The group would walk for only two more minutes before things took a turn, not an unexpected one as this was an area filled with wild Pokemon but a turn nonetheless. The group would end up crossing into some tall grass allowed to grow thanks to an opening in the canopy, something lurking in said grass, watching them quietly. Matteo had his Buizel on his shoulders again and thus the little Water type was well above the tall grass and made them look together big so instead whatever was lurking took an interest in the much smaller Litten almost completely hidden in the grass, but not to it.
"Scyther!" Shouted the mantis Pokemon as it came lunging out of the tall grass, using its wings for lift. It would come down upon Litten swinging one of its scythes as it utilized Slash.
"Watch out!" Matteo shouted, thinking the bug was going for Tristen as he himself was behind the other boy.

Tristen was walking along alongside Matteo, trying to keep a lookout in the area of anything that might be a worthwhile battle. While there were battles being had, there hadn’t been a whole lot going on. Sure the Komala threw Matteo for a loop a little bit, and the Toedscool was a bit weird for Litten to deal with, though that one was more to Tristen just not knowing how to deal with it fully. The Steenee was…sort of a wash, in spite of Litten’s victory over it considering how that battle played out. Tristen was a little bit in thought until he perked up, nearly jumping when they had unexpected company. Tristen only got a bit of a glance before he quickly dove down. Though as he did, he heared a howl of pain out of Litten. Tristen pushed himself back up, looking over to see clearly what jumped after them. “A Scyther!” Tristen shouted, scrambling up. “Litten! You okay!?” He shouted.
Litten was up, but it was wincing hard. Getting ambushed by the Scyther was not kosher at all. In fact, Litten wasn’t going to last this battle. Tristen had to think fast then had a quick idea. “Matteo! Clear the grass! Litten! Flamethrower!” Tristen would quickly rush off to get out of the grass himself as fast as he could as the cat, now in peril, unleashed a larger plume of fire than normal. The stream went for the Scyther, but more importantly, the immediate landscape was now hopefully going to catch fire. He needed this Scyther in a disadvantaged position in a hurry.

"Right!" Matteo shouted in response to Tristen, trusting him at this point and got right out of there quick with his Buizel still on his shoulders.
The Scyther was quick and evidently experienced as it stood firm and with a blurry shift it created three additional 'clones' of itself, the four Scyther standing in a line as the Flamethrower pierced through one of the clones causing it to disappear, the Scyther almost smirking until it realized what precisely was happening. "Scyther!?" The Pokemon cried out as the grass quickly caught fire, the mantis Pokemon now surrounded by fire on all sides, the heat of the flames searing it and cause terrible pain.
"Scythhh..." The Bug Pokemon hissed at Litten, angered by this little trick. It was going to put down this cat quick and get out of here before it succumb to the flames. With its decision to make Litten pay set the bug would let out a cry before the three of Scyther leapt at Litten, one after the other swiping at the cat with Slash. This time it was more telegraphed, no ambushing, couldn't afford to, the clock was ticking down for the bug Pokemon after all as the fire quickly sapped away its health.

Tristen had to rush around as well to stop getting himself from getting toasted as well. He might be wearing his fire-resistant wear, but it wasn’t anything he needed to stay in. The Scyther, now realizing that it was in a precarious situation, decided to be a lot more straightforward with its attacks instead of the ambush tactics that it originally had planned. However, it was still relatively dangerous given the situation. As the Scyther started to slash away, Litten started to back away, trying to avert the killer scythes on the bug’s arms. It needed to get on the attack; it couldn’t stay on the defensive. Litten needed a good few decisive shots against a bug this fierce, but that would require an opening. “Litten, try Fire Spin!” Tristen called out. With the slices and slashes nearly hitting their mark, the cat would manage to sprint off through some of the patches of fire then turned around, unleashing a harsh vortex empowered by Litten’s Blaze towards the Scyther to further entrap it.

The Scyther and its clones attempted to put down the Litten with a decisive slice, however it would never come as the most the original managed to do was get in a few nicks. With Litten bounding out of range the Scyther prepared to ready another attack, intending to not let up, however the Fire Spin would catch it off guard as the three Scyther hurled up together, taken aback by the twister of flame now swirling around them, from the Scyther's view it was now in proper hell with no escape. As the flames at its feet and now walled up around it the Scyther cried out in pain and with individual 'poofs' its clones disappeared, no longer able to keep up the Double Team. This was bad, it had only seconds to do something, anything, to get out of this mess otherwise it would finally succumb to the fire and it wasn't about to go down so easily.
"Scy...THER!" Shouted the Scyther as it used a fierce flap of its wings to send itself rocketing up into the air and above the Fire Spin vortex in a straight vertical line. Now momentarily free the Scyther resorted to a long range move which weren't its strong suit but it saw no other choice, the Mantis Pokemon proceeding to slash at the air in front of it, generating blades of pure Flying energy and sending them violently flying towards Litten as it used Air Slash. It would be noted the thing was heavily winded, its wings faltering every now and then, it couldn't hold itself up for long let alone do any air dodging, at least not quickly.
