I have put together some (a lot) of Kao quotes!! They were part of an interview posted on [a knot] a while ago. It’s not the whole interview, and it’s not in order—sorry >_<.

BTW… anything you see in brackets è [ ], then those aren’t part of his exact words… they just help make the English more clear.

If you guys send things to Dir en grey, don’t waste your money crying :

Interviewer: “Your fan ‘forum’ really takes care of the fan mail you are sent. They say that you receive many presents. What is it that fans send to you?”

Kaoru: “We… don’t often [get to] look at that stuff.”

(Sorry, had to get that out there…)

Interviewer: “What kind of genre of music do you get your ideas from? The punk scene, or more… ‘industrial goth?’”

Kaoru: "Japanese rock!!"

(I wonder if he said that angrily)

Interviewer: “Why is it that Dir en grey changes their image around so much? Right now, you have switched to a more goth-like image, which is causing a lot of talk among your fans.”

Kaoru: “We don’t really think about that. We don’t care what others think—let them talk.”

(Essentially: If you don’t like the chin pubes, SUCK IT. Nah~ Kao’s not that mean)

Interviewer: “The style of your band is reminiscent, in a way, of names like Prodigy, Kiss, Marilyn Manson, and Rammstein. Are those artists important to you?”

Kaoru: “[Yeah], we know those names.”

(goes with the previous question):

Interviewer: “Do these bands influence how you write your music or how you perform?”

Kaoru: “We know them, we like their music, but… they don’t [have a lot of] influence [on] us.”

A question about us!:

Interviewer: “What do you [guys] think about fans that dress up as the band or show a ‘Harajuku’ style?”

Kaoru: “It always surprises us [to see cosplayers]. But they look great! They are free to do what they want.”

About the music:

Interviewer: “You especially always seem to describe your music as a way to express the sorrow and pains you feel in this world. What is it that hurts you?”

Kaoru: “If we could identify [that, then] we wouldn’t make the music [we do]. Different people feel different [kinds of] pain—that’s is why we’re not consistent with our style of music. Everyone suffers… but everyone suffers in different ways. [So] we don’t assume anything… we [just] want our audience to feel something.”

ABOUT KYO!!:

Interviewer: Is it part of the show when Kyo, the vocalist, hurts himself during a performance?

Kaoru: “He does this a lot!—but it is not planned. Usually he does it spontaneously… out of a certain feeling.”

In ten years…

Interviewer: “This band has existed since eight years ago! Where do you plan to take this? What do you see Dir en grey doing in ten years?”

Kaoru: “Who knows…”

Teehee~ I just realized that my original account's "birthday" is the same as Kao's... I made the account for Hanei on 2/17! (in 2005 >_>). The name is now AoiMana, though whee .
