10 Without Brit. Lit., you wouldn't have Shakespeare and Chesterton!

Shakespeare had a remarkable talent for writing wonderful stories in a way that boring and hard to follow. Except twelfth night. That play was great. And it's not the reading that kills me, it's the WRITING. I like reading. Reading is good. But I hate writing. Especially essays and such that require me to find some "hidden meaning" or some crap in Hamlet.

6 The tragedy of Macbeth is the abuse of free will, and the tragedy of Hamlet is the desire for vengeance.

2 Well, in both cases it seemed like Shakespeare was suggesting there was no free will, and no matter what the main character did they could not escape fate. And I'm more of a fan of comedies than tragedies.

4 Actually, Shakespeare acknowledged free will and supports it. Comedies are one proof of my argument.

2 But in both plays the main characters fight fate, only to lose in the end.

4 They chose to do so, and paid the price. Shakespeare also acknowledges responsibility.

2 In the beginning Hamlet tried to fight fate, and in the end he accepted it and went along with it. In the beginning Macbeth went along with fate, but then tried to go against it. In both cases fate prevailed.

4 Hence the idea that freedom and responsibility go together in harmony, not against each other.

0 But regardless whether the tried to comply with fate, fate always prevailed. It makes it seem like they had no choice from the beginning.
I suppose this means we won.

They did have a choice, and they went along with their choices, be it to embrace fate, or to go against it.
And yes, you won. I just hope no girl goes arrogant today.
