Chakra tree climbing
Focus your chakra with enough control to walk on the tree trunk
D20 + Chakra control
DC: 20

DC = 16 + 4 = success

Hiru thought that with his spare time he'd try to apply something he had read about in his three tomes on chakra control. Apparently, you could stick to a tree and run on it almost effortlessly. The trick was to focus your chakra into your feet and make it hold you vertically through constant, minimal focus.

Hiru had read a lot about chakra control and was pretty confident he could do this without breaking much of a sweat. He walked out of the academy, near the river where Midori was trying to swim with very little success, and spotted the biggest, tallest tree he could find. He took a few steps back, concentrated, and rushed towards the tree.

As he ran, he gradually started channeling his chakra to the bottom of his feet. He had to be pretty careful not to generate water there or else he'd slip and fall. He gained speed, put one foot on the tree than the other as he dashed on to it. Hiru kept his eyes close for maybe two or three seconds before he realized he was standing on the tree.

"Wow, on the first try !", Hiru couldn't help but realize.

Hiru was incredibly thrilled to be standing horizontally to the ground. He waved at Midori and yelled : "Hey Midori! Look at this! Pretty cool huh?"

The stern youth took a breath and tried to clear his mind. Perhaps he was too tense. His mind just was not in the game. Kiketsu positioned the chair once again. “I just need to concentrate.” his brain told him. He had leaped over a large rock yesterday. A few desks should not be a problem. His toes took three steps back before the serpent made another leap. Both feet planted on the chair and propelled him off for the desk.

"Don't give up Kiketsu! Failing just a few times isn't that bad!"

The pitched noise of the child great white was a loud enough distraction. In mid air Kiketsu arched his body to view the noise. The switching in air stopped his propulsion and instead his back hit into the desk. The boy slid on the floor. Raising his head Kiketsu glared at his energetic peer to see him bounding outside. “That guy…” the serpent boy thought angrily. His face did not show any emotion. Yet Kiketsu hoped that if they ever did practice some dangerous jutsu that Hiru would be his target.

Rubbing the forming knot on his head the snake like child arose from the floor again. His knuckles brushed against the forming knot from that fall. It seemed as if it were his peers that kept getting in the way. The intelligent student would have to find equilibrium in training to put up with them. This would probably be his class till he graduated and perhaps even future teammates. Training with them everyday… Kiketsu already had the patience of a Buddhist monk, but depending on some peers he would need more.

Positioning the chair once again, Kiketsu went for another leap. His feet hopped on to the chair when he heard that alarm like voice again. Apparently Hiru was doing something that required Midori to watch him. The disturbance had taken Kiketsu off balance again, but he did not fall on his face like last time and landed on his feet. The snake like youth did not turn to view the noise. The duo outside could have their fun. A nightmarish thought then crossed his mind. The boy imagined if the two outside were to become his future teammates. Kiketsu would then need divine patience to put up with them.

Now that Hiru was firmly stuck to the wood with his chakra, he had an idea for training. Since everyone seemed to be hard at work and he was just standing there doing practically nothing, he decided he'd improvise himself an exercise. He took Kaisou out of his pouch and slipped him down his collar and into his shirt. Kaisou seemed to have fun since he actually went wild. Hiru flinched, but held.

The night before, just as Hiru was getting to sleep, Kaisou got the bright idea to jump into his bed sheets and start running around all over the place. Hiru tried to grab him but his little claws and his soft tail made a weird scratch tickle combo that made it impossible to catch the squirrel. This was just about what Hiru was feeling right now... except that this time it was happening under his shirt.

He was a focused little soldier though, he managed to stay concentrated through all the pain and tickles and itch his buddy had been inflicting on him for two and a half minutes now. Kaisou seemed particularily fond of putting his little claws in his neck and brushing his big, bushy tail against his lower back. Hiru barely understood how he could still be holding himself, but he crossed the three minute mark successfully.

Hiru thought that maybe if he focused on his chakra, standing this would be a bit easier. He retreated back to the far corners of his mind, where there was only water around to bask into. And not cold water like the one from the river there; cool, almost warm water where he could stay for hours and hours without anyone shoving him around, beating him or isolating him.

Things couldn't keep going forever though, a very specific claw grip from Kaisou pulled him back from his dream water basin and straight to reality: a three meter freefall. By some strange animal instinct, the squirrel moved straight to Hiru's stomach as the shark boy landed flat on his back against the ground. "Man... that really hurts..." Hiru whispered as he slowly got back up.

As Midori flailed around in the water she realized her past mistakes with this exercise. She repositioned her body as she found herself finally swimming. Then Hiru's shrill voice rang through her ears. "He still hasn't caught on yet has he? Obviously that particular human being is oblivious to how he is hated. . ." Midori thought as she completely ignored him altogether. She wouldn't mind having Kiketsu on her team but Hiru was a definite no. Midori started to realize what the doggy paddle was and kicked her feet rapidly and heavily through the water splashing Hiru. In her head she was laughing but her expression was blank.

It took Kaisou maybe three seconds after Hiru got back up to get moving again. The shark kid was giggling and aching as he tried to get enough concentration to climb back up the tree. He dashed straight for it but he never managed to get enough focus to mass chakra under his feet. His left foot took hold against the trunk, his right foot tried to reach the surface but never really made it. Hiru fell right back down.

DC: 3 - 1 = fall

Hiru stayed a few seconds lying on the ground. It was somekind of a break as Kaisou seemed to stay put when he didn't have enough room to run. Slowly, Hiru stood back up and slowly gained momentum. Again one foot took hold; but dropped instantly. Hiru hit the tree face first and slowly slipped back to the ground. "Geez... this seemed so easy just a few seconds ago...", Hiru whispered.

DC: 20 - 1 = hold
Train: 5/10

Hiru grabbed hold around the trunk and hauled himself back up. While still holding on, he steadily put both his feet on the tree and started walking up. He slowly climbed the tree all the way up. He had almost forgotten about Kaisou who was still playing a tantrum under his shirt. If Hiru's skin wasn't so thick, he probably would have been bleeding all over the ground by now...

DC: 18 - 1 = hold
Train: 6/10

Hiru started focusing back to his chakra circulatory system. He retreated further into his mind and back to his chakra river. He observed as it seemed to shrink to a tiny drizzle where it wasn't required, going much faster, and got the size of river where it was being used and slowed down, leaking more importantly where it was needed the most. While still holding on, he was slowly getting pulled back to reality.

DC: 5 - 1 = fall
Train: 6/10
Hp: 14

As he was drawn farther away from his hyrdographic basin of chakra, Hiru had to undergo a very harsh return to reality. As he opened his eyes again, all he saw was the goung getting closer and closer as Kaisou seemed to climb to his back. He closed his eyes and turned his head a bit to the side so he wouldn't fall head first. It took maybe three seconds and he was lying on the ground.

Hiru shrugged off the pain as he was getting tired of this demanding exercise. He took a small leap and jumped right on the tree. He walked with a lot of ease all the way to the top of the tree, hoping the fear of falling would stimulate him to stay focused through the pain. He stood, both legs straight, eyes closed and his hands together in the horse seal. He was ready for a long run.

DC: 16 - 1 = hold
Train: 8/10

Hiru still felt Kaisou running around in his shirt, but he had somehow found a way to forget the pain or the harshness and still focus on the task at hand. This skill would probably help him if he needed to catch a jutsu in difficult situations, like if he was under stress or in extreme pain. Now all he had to do was learn a few jutsus to apply this skill to, but that would come later on...

DC: 19 - 1 = hold
Train: 9/10
Hp: 14

Hiru had probably found the best partner in Kaisou. No other beast could have stayed hyper for so long and not get tired of it. Even though he was able to concentrate, Kaisou kept clawing away and tickling like there was no tomorrow. He had barely even slowed down since the training started over fifteen or twenty minutes ago! He'd probably have to get tired sooner or later though...

DC: 17 - 1 = hold
Train: 10/10
Hp: 14

And as the clock ticked down, Hiru counted that was about ten minutes he had managed to hold and judged the training was probably over. He unzipped his jacket and let Kaisou out. It looked like it had just spent three hours in a dryer but he didn't look particularily traumatized from this experience. Hiru petted him a bit, took a nut from the tree and fed it to him as he put it back into the pouch.

"Guess that's it then... can't wait to learn the next basic jutsu !", Hiru thought.

Shaking the mental thoughts of the two pre-shinobi peers and there physical forms outside of class, Kiketsu began to concentrate once again. The distractions gone he could once again try for the insane maneuvers his mind had been plotting. What the boy wanted to accomplish is to flip on to the desk. From there he would continuously flip onto another desk without landing on the ground. That was the plan. If it actually worked or not was another story. Luckily that tale would be unfolding right now. He placed the chair back to its position. With a few feet distance, the black sandals on his feet sprung forth putting his entire body on the chair. His knees and legs bent and then pushed off once again as if Kiketsu was on a spring. His frame twisted in the air until his legs hit the desk and his body face in a 180 position than when it was on the chair. “Well so far so good…” his tactile mind responded to the rest of his body as he begun thinking of how to accomplish the next move.

The bell rings! It's lunchtime!

Lunch is prawn and smoked salmon sandwiches with fruit salad!

Or, you know, home-prepared lunch if you have it.
PostPosted: Wed May 28, 2008 5:45 am

When Hiru heard the lunchbell ring, it did not even take a second before he ran down the tree he was training on and dashed to the cafeteria.

"I'll have everything please!", Hiru cheerfully asked the attendant.

Hiru looked around, trying to see if one of his friends had already made it here before him. All he saw were empty seats around the lunch table...

"Wow, these guys sure train hard... they don't even take the time to eat!", he whispered.

A bit worried he'd look like a slacker, he took a seat at the table and started devouring his sandwich and salad. At the speed he was chomping down that poor lunch, he was sure not going to slack off for long!

With his trademark half neutral half emo expression on his face Sensei entered the cafeteria casually. He had been kind of hungry and sure as hell didn't have anything prepared for himself because if there was one thing Sensei couldn't do it was cook. Why did you think that he made his cute students do all the work last time? Usually Sensei spent his dinners holed up in the Witch Market or just eating takeaways. Glancing at the menu which was limited as usual (not that Sensei was complaining), he nodded at the serving lady politely and took the tray to some isolated corner-table. It was quite near Hiru actually, but still in a corner. His eyes swept across the empty cafeteria save for Hiru and he was actually quite surprised. Where were the students who liked to eat? Skiving probably? It was quite foreign for him for his students to be so hardworking.

Anyway, fork in one hand, Sensei flipped open the book with his left hand and used it to hold the book straight. His right hand skewed vegetables into his mouth as he started to read.

[Lol what a good start]

Munch, munch, munch. Ah, lettuce. Unfortunately, Sensei was so preoccupied with his food that his hold over the book slipped. It was only with his quick chuunin reflexes that he managed to keep the book from falling into the sauce. Not that he wasn't rich enough to repay the library a thousand times over, but you know what I mean. That was a close shave.

Putting his fork down, Sensei decided to open the book with two hands first, which was a lot easier than doing it with one. Once his left hand's grip over the bottom of the book was established, Sensei reached for his fork again. Yes... this was the right book. It was a copy of the scroll by Miyamoto Musashi himself, about his famed Nito Ichi Ryu...

Unfortunately, since it was a copy by Miyamoto himself, it was also written in the ancient language. Just peachy. An annoyed expression overtook Sensei's face before quickly smoothing over into nothing just like all the other times. Well, he supposed that he couldn't expect anybody to translate it... besides, it wasn't much different and it was still understandable. It was just that a couple of terms were too archaic and awkward. Still, he would press on. He refused to believe that the writings of the most famous swordsman in history were useless. He finished the intro and started on the first chapter which was about Miyamoto Musashi's philosophy.
