Aki nods, the lighthearted smile disappearing from her face. She knew all too well how particular places could bring back memories, both good and bad. After a couple seconds, her smile returns and she says, "I'm impressed you can hold your breath for so long."

Nezrain forced a faint, weak smile. "Haaah, it's really mostly practice. I'm sure you could to it too." She said, treading and turning to Aki, before realizing she was still holding the other girl's wrist. Letting go, she let herself sink in the water a little, only her eyes and up breaking the surface to looking up at the other girl.

"Perhaps. I get short of breath easily when I swim though. That's part of the reason I'm not so great at it," she replies. When Nezrain sinks under the water, Aki smiles at her warmly, thinking she looked cute peeking up over the waves.

Exhaling bubbles for a moment, Nezrain popped her head back up over the surface, shaking it left and right.
"I think you'd be fine. It might be a gradual process for you, but you could do it if you tried. I'm sure of it." She said encouragingly, with all the insistence of a small child.

Aki smiles as she treads water, watching Nezrain enjoy the water. "Perhaps. Maybe I'll start practicing in my free time," she replies.

The sky growing dark, and tide coming in higher signaled evening's fall.
"Perhaps we should head back? I can see some rip tides forming down the shoreline. It's only a matter of time before they curl along and form down here too." She explained, eyes scanning the coast.

"Alrighty. I should probably get some rest soon anyway. I've had a loooong day," Aki replies, suddenly feeling the fatigue she had been suppressing. She begins swimming slowly toward the shore, enjoying the feel of the cool water over her skin.

Reaching the shore, Nezrain glanced around, before darting around and gathering some dried driftwood and kelp from further inland. Piling them up into a neat, quick little cone, she cast fire on the makeshift pile, an motioned for Aki to join her by it.
"Might as well dry off since it's already getting dark."

Aki wonders what Nezrain was doing as she gathers driftwood, but clues in as soon as the fire spell is cast. She grabs her things and comes over to the fire, setting her stuff down near her. She smiles as the warmth of the flames warms her wet skin. "Good idea, this is nice," she says, rubbing her arms.

"Hah, thanks. I just figured walking back soaking wet in the cold wouldn't be all that pleasant, though I doubt you'd consider this cold, being from Trabia and all." She explained, laughing a little.
After a moment, staring out at the sea, she paused and asked, "So what do you think? Getting a breather from the paper pushing help with the stress at all?"

Aki laughs, and nods. "Yeah, this is quite warm in comparison," she replies. After Nezrain speaks again, she nods and gives her a big smile. "It certainly does. Sometimes I forget that I can't do everything all by myself. Despite everything, I'm still only Human..." she replies.

Are we really? Nezrain only sighed in response--a sound something between relaxing and growing disheartened. Staring into the fire, she couldn't help but ponder that point.
"Human." She breathed. "It's a strange predicament, don't you think?"

Aki frowns somewhat as the word 'human' is repeated. Quite often she felt like she was something else entirely. Sure she had been born a normal, average girl, but through the events in her life she had gained an entirely non-human side of her which was impossible to remove. And even if she hadn't 'inherited' Bastet as a permanent addition to her DNA, could anyone who frequently used GF's really consider themselves truly human? Every time a GF was junctioned it took a small piece of it's host as payment, typically in the form of memories. Aki had experienced this herself, and she could't help but wonder how much of one's humanity was lost through the frequent use of the GF's. "Yeah definitely. It's becoming much harder to define the word I think.." she replies, giving a little shrug.

Nezrain stared at her palm, fingers lightly scarred from various scuffles and skirmishes throughout her life. Looking at the fire, she thought on Aki's words, on her own words, and the greater implications at play. She herself had her own issues with guardian forces, but thankfully no one had called attention to it in her stay at Garden. Sure people had seen her cast magic on occasion, but they certainly had yet to see her summon a guardian force--a prerequisite to casting magic. Shaking her head, she looked to Aki.
"Does it really matter though? We still feel, right? And in a world where so called facts and allegiances are so easily changed and broken, aren't our emotions, arbitrary though they may seem, one of the few things we can trust and believe in? Don't they carry some validity?" Her voice was even, full of thought.

"I'd like to think so. I think our emotions are the only thing we ever truly own.." Aki replies, her eyes growing somewhat dark. Aki stares into the flames silently, deep in thought. It was true though, wasn't it? Aki had lost so much throughout her life, and what made her the person she was today was the way her feelings helped her make the right decisions. You could have your possessions taken, your body violated, and even your actions controlled, but nobody could ever control the way you feel.
