Derives from someone who spent a lot of time on manual labor outside and so received a "red neck" from the sun.

That is also kind of how the Marines got the nickname 'Leather Necks.'
It was because all the officers uniforms had distinct leather neck brace things, that was meant to deflect sword slashes to the neck. When swords became obsolete, they took off the leather part, but it stuck because of the discomfort, and the historical significance of it. It was some farmer guy locked himself in the town armory, and the Officer went in first, and the neck stopped the sword that was swung at him and after a second, he reacted and shot the farmer. xD

Dudes.....Rednecks can be in the North too. I mean damn, they run wild here but not all of them are like....that *points to the Malachi youtubeness*. There are two kinds of rednecks.
1.) Southern ones that have uncle daddy brother cousins.
2.) Northern ones that have morals, work hard, and generally don't hate
people that arent white.

Most of my family are Rednecks. And Missouri = South-ish... (Also kinda north-ish o.0)
We don't have any incest going on, and we sure as hell do a lot of physical labor outdoors. I also never really hear anyone in my family talk about racism, but for the most part, most of my family is against gays. You could say we have strong morals, and really stand for the Gojohn name.
Really, I am not typically fond of their lifestyle lifestyle, and I do not wish to base my own around it. You know, living in the country...doing work in the sun all day....When Im out there, they expect me to do junk like cut wood or stack haybales. All that stoof, just isn't me. >.>
Although I dislike the lifestyle, I still love my family.
But saying that all southern rednecks are inbreeds and racist, meanwhile, northern rednecks are all perfect...
Hey, then again, maybe we're northern rednecks too. XD
Ah, what do I know or care? Im no redneck expert. xd
