Ianator Quick question, guys. Storm Guardians. Who's got 'em, and are they any good? You know, I've got a couple, but I don't use Guardians at all in my strategies anymore. sweatdrop

Though my opinion on defenders is, 'If your too close to fire Catapults your too close.' razz

Meh I've recently began messing about with some new units into my existing Eldar, which focused around Vipers and Jet bikes flanking with some rangers and Dire avengers too lure them into the middle.
Warp spiders are strangely satisfying too use =3 even more so when I wiped out my mates Terminator squad

I'm sorry about casting a thread necro spell, but I'm a huge Eldar fan.
I love Warp Spiders. They have the ability to rock the casba with the enemy's troops and even elite choices.
I have to say though that the Swooping Hawks (in conjunction with an Autarch's special Master Strategist rule) scare me. The fact that potentially every turn, my three units of Swooping Hawks can toss a blast template down each anywhere on the board and then reappear is just mean.
My Exarch runs a Sun Rifle. What would you guys run on it?

Autarchs with Fusion Guns are scary. Some prefer to give them DA Shuriken Catapults, though.
As far as Warp Spiders go, they're splendid at chewing through low armored masses (Nidswarms, Guard, Boyz). With their high strength, it's almost guaranteed to pull off a wound against 'em.

If you guys could suggest one thing to a new Eldar player, what would that be? I mean I hear a lot about not putting so much into HQ, but a Seer Council almost seems like a must for any army.
And yes, Fusion Pistols on an Autarch are scary. Almost anything on an Autarch is scary...especially when he has some sort of Power Weapon and Mandiblasters. Of course the Laser Lance and Mandiblasters are just wrong...

Laser Lances are only power weapons on the charge. Mandiblaster/Power Weapon are a preferrable combo in my opinion. Must haves? Well, my faves are Dire Avengers. They're good shooters with a fairly good fun and, with Bladestorm, can lay down a HELL of a lot of firepower. Whether you're shooting at Big Nasties (monstrous creatures) or swarms, Bladestorm cleans up pretty well.

Actually, popular is the opinion that Swooping Hawks aren't all that good. I mean yeah, you've got their Deep Strike explosives, but that all relies on you actually succeeding on the Reserves roll, which is easier with an Autarch but by no means guaranteed. Between their weak guns and the randomness of the dice, you could wind up with a whole unit that doesn't do anything for a turn - or worse, barely anything through the whole game.
Don't let that scare you off, though. I don't even play Eldar (yet), and I'm insistent there's a place in a 2000-point army for a squad of Hawks. Just figure out a strategy, build an army around it and run some test games in VASSAL40k before committing to the models.

A full-strength 6 troops dire avengers army can blast away 192 shuriken shots in a bladestorm salvo, enough to scare a horde like orks or guard... All for about 900 points, leaving plenty of room for specialist units. Tactically there are 2 ways to exploit the bladestorm, a one-two punch of bladestorm and assault or bladestorm followed by fleet to better position or objective.

My tyranid-playing friend told me that's the thing he fears the most from the Eldar...apart from Wraithlords, Fire Prisms, and the deadly mounted Seer Council of Fortune and Doom.
One more question. I hope I'm not being a nuisance. Can you guys suggest a method of getting close to the Tau? I know Wave Serpents and Falcons work, but will Swooping Hawks and Warp Spiders get the job done too?

I know Wave Serpents and Falcons work, but will Swooping Hawks and Warp Spiders get the job done too? I'd consider small Jetbike units. They're inexpensive and durable; charge up to the Tau and engage them in assault, and then follow up with the rest of your army while they're engaged; Scorpions can soak up the fire as they advance without many casualties, and would make a good one-two to follow the Jetbikes.

I have a quick question about Autarchs. When you take jetbike as one option and laser lance as another, can you take your two-handed weapon still, or does the fact that he's on a jetbike mean he can only have one weapon? My friend thinks that's how it works, but I've heard otherwise.
Oh...example:
Autarch on Jetbike with Laser Lance and Fusion Pistol. Could I do that?
Thanks for the help in advance.

Models can carry how many weapons as the codex allow nowdays, there's no limit to onehanded weapons when riding bikes, like space marine dark angels characters, they can take pair of lightning claws, plasma pistol and storm bolter and still ride a bike. wink
Another example is the ork big mek who can have 2 powerklaws and a kombi-shoota at the same time.
So why don't you read the codex and see for yourself?
