He would reach down to pick the cat up off the ground as well, then started to follow Matteo off towards the outer reaches of the city, keeping in mind as to what to possibly be on the lookout for. Though, if what he remembered Matteo yesterday, while these are Pokémon that Litten should be able to take on with relative ease, these should be stronger than those outside of Mezagoza’s front gates. They shouldn’t really be discounted that much. Truthfully, the likes of Shroomish and Foongus unnerves him just a little since that limits going in directly. And a few crippling powder based attacks were not off the table even then. He would just have to be careful if he wanted to get the most out of training Litten, let alone any other Pokémon of his, today.
Making it out of the city, Tristen would have a look around the area. A stark difference from the outskirts of Mezagoza. The forests were a lot more plentiful, but also generally rocky. Anything could hide around any corner. What struck him as odd, admittedly, was in spite of the occasional Paldean Pokémon like the Tandemous, there were a lot of Pokémon that he was quite familiar with. Like the Meowth and Jigglypuff. He even caught sight of the occasional Pachirisu and Fletchinder. It almost made him wonder if all the ‘newer’ Pokémon to him all hung around in the southern parts of the region as opposed to the northern parts. He wanted to explore a bit, see what else what Paldea had to offer. As he started to look about, Tristen stared in confusion if only a little bit when he saw something fairly out of place. A Tentacool…but walking on his own tentacles? And brown?
Instantly, Tristen started to realize, that wasn’t the case. The Pokémon that the Snagems went after which forced them to enroll into the academy that month ago… “Hey, its one of those Pokémon…” He said. “That must be the Pokémon that Ferdinand evolved from…”

"Hm? Oh, are you talking about that Toedscool?" Matteo asked after looking around and then clocking what Tristen was pointing out. "Yeah, Toedscool are pretty common, Ground and Grass types, a fungus Pokemon like Foongus. I don't have much experience battling them to be honest as they are quick to flee and run really fast. If you want maybe Litten could try and sneak up on it? Get it in a battle before it has a chance to run away." Matteo explained and then suggested to Tristen, his Buizel nodding in agreement with its trainer.

Suddenly, the one question that was burning to get asked and probably the opportunity to answer it in very short order: How fast was really fast? He couldn’t have possibly imagined it being that fast. It didn’t seem to be in the kind of shape or form that would allow that. And if its evolved state was anything to go by, it did look like it lumbered a little bit. Tristen’s curiosity was really messing with him. Without too much of a word, Tristen would put Litten down on the ground then started to go off, trying to get around behind the Toedscool, trying to stay relatively downwind, low. Trying to not startle this thing if he could help it. Litten would follow Tristen close behind, trotting behind the hybrid. He didn’t want to get too close for it to just run immediately, fearing the Toedscool would hear them coming.
“Okay Litten…” He said in a whisper. “Ready?” Litten looked over towards the fungal Pokémon then back towards Tristen. It then slowly stepped forward, waiting on the word. “Go.” Litten would go off into a hard sprint towards the Toedscool, ready to ambush the wild Pokémon. “Fire Fang!”
“NYO!” The cat would howl out, maw ablaze to gnaw away at the Pokémon.

Matteo hung back to watch Tristen and Litten do their thing, the Growlithe hybrid turning his head around to face the Buizel on his shoulder and put a finger up to his lips, indicating to the Pokemon to be quiet. Buizel nodded its head in silence, the Pokemon and trainer now observing their friends quietly from afar.
The Toedscool had no idea what was coming, the Woodear Pokemon just continuing its casual stroll, what it was actually doing just walking about not immediately obvious. Whatever plans it had in this moment would be disrupted as the Toedscool heard Litten's howl, jumping slightly with a start, however it would have no time to register what caused the noise. Litten would land on the living mushroom's head and clamp down with its fiery fangs, piercing its fleshy form. Immediately the Toedscool would let out a welp of pain and begin to run.
Panicking the Toedscool began to run in a wide circle in the grassy field, Tristen getting a sample of its speed as it was nearing thirty miles per hour, provided the boy had a radar gun that is. Once the initial panic began to wear off the Toedscool began to act with more self preservation, coming to a 'screeching' stop and rapidly vibrating its body to release and kick up a cloud of Poison Powder from its gills, the purple cloud of powder quickly consuming them both.

As the fire cat clamped down with its fiery maw, he found himself getting carried off by the Toedscool in the Pokémon’s panic. All the cat could do was hold on tight with its tiny claws and its maw, practically left stunned over how this Pokémon was moving in such a fashion. The cat would get flung off however to the sudden stop once the Toedscool started to compose itself and try to work a way to get its assailants off its case.
The cat would tumble, but not really getting all that hurt from getting flung off. The cat would scramble back onto his feet, just in time to see the Toedscool trying to emit a thick cloud of violet powder. Tristen instantly realized what that was, quickly backing away. “Litten! Don’t breathe that in!” Tristen tried to warn his cat. Unfortunately, by the time he got the command out, Litten was already choking on that powder a bit. The cat was for certain poisoned by it. “Oh no…Litten, try to fight through it! Use Fire Spin!” Tristen commanded. If nothing else, he wanted to try to pin down this mushroom and perhaps deter it from using any other powdery attacks.
After nearly coughing up a lung, the cat would manage to comply, firing off a stream of fire which laid out around the grass Pokémon, its searing flames flickering to burn the Toedscool.

"Toed!?" Cried the Toedscool as the cat unleashed the stream of fire, said stream quickly turning around itself and creating a searing vortex of fire around the Toedscool. The mushroom Pokemon would let out a pained cry as it quickly suffered from the heat of the attack. Wanting nothing more than to cry, to escape this ring of fire, the Toedscool actually did something clever in this moment as it began to wildly kick at the ground, breaking up the soil and then flinging clumps of it at Litten and over the ring of fire around itself as it used Mud Slap. The intent was to try and put out the fire but Litten was certainly going to get several clods punted at it. If it were successful with escape the ring of fire it would attempt to use the opportunity to run.

The Litten looked up, seeing the mud globs threatening to rain down. The cat scrambled, stumbling in its poison-induced bouts of weakness on occasion, but enough of an occasion where some of the globs managed to hit its target. “NRRAO!” The cat howled out. “Litten, just hang in there, try using Flamethrower! Take it down before it gets away!” Tristen shouted. The cat would manage to get around then unleash a harsh plume of fire towards the Toedscool, trying to put it down for the count.

The Toedscool's little Mud Slap tactic would succeed as it smothered the ring of fire in a small section, just enough for it to safely hop over and escape the Fire Spin. With its newfound freedom the Toedscool would begin to book it, turning away from the Litten and running. Unfortunately while it had impressive top speed its acceleration was somewhat lacking and soon it would find out that a Flamethrower moved faster than it could as the flames quickly consumed the mushroom Pokemon and as the attack ended Toedscool would be seen, completely blackened. "T-toeds..." It whined one last time before falling over, knocked out cold...or hot in this case.
"That was pretty good." Matteo commented as he walked up to Tristen, now that the Toedscool was put down. "You know, it's pretty impressive your Litten can use Flamethrower. Why hasn't it evolved yet? That's a pretty advanced move, surely it would evolve first, before learning that, right?" The boy pointed out, his Buizel hopping down and walking up to Litten, checking up on the other Pokemon.
"Bui bui?" It was asking if Litten was okay in Pokespeak.

“Nrraao…” Litten said, not feeling the hottest, and covered some in mud. This would take probably forever to clean.
“Oh, well, every Pokémon evolves in their own time.” Tristen said. “Sometimes it isn’t too bad of a thing. Sometimes Pokémon end up learning advanced moves like that earlier in their previous states. I kinda helped Litten to learn that a while back ago, especially since it knew moves like Ember and managed to get Fire Spin down kinda easily. Litten, come here.” he said, kneeling down. The cat wearily made his way over towards Tristen as the Manectric hybrid started to dig in his pack. A few things to try to take care of, like try to get Litten to work that poison out of him which was doing its vile work. “Here, eat this.” Tristen told Litten, pulling out a Lum Berry. The cat would give a smell of the berry then rear back a little bit. “Litten, its either this or the Full Heal. I’m not having you pass out to that poison if I can help it, and I don’t need to remind you the last time you got stuck with one of those.” The cat huffed then would reluctantly bite and gnaw away at the Lum berry, eating it.
“Lets give Litten a minute…” Tristen said. “Anyways, it was how I was taught to train Pokémon and work their abilities out. Go from one thing, to the next, to the next. Smaller to larger. After Fire Spin, I figure to try and make it the next step. It’s possible that I might have been able to teach something else, but I figure to try to go for it to give Litten a bit more versatility. Something that he’d going to need anyways once he does evolve. Maybe whenever Litten evolves, I can try teaching things like Heat Wave or Flare Blitz, but one thing at a time. Or perhaps try to diversify a little. Litten already knows things like Taunt and Fake Out. Maybe I could use Litten’s fire prowess into other things, like maybe using it as a basis to other types of attacks like Shadow Claw. We’re going to have to see.”
Tristen looked back towards Litten. “Feeling better?”
“Nrrao.” The cat spoke up. Admittedly it was, though didn’t care having to chew and eat a generally mildly bland tasting berry. Never mind that it was compelled to try to get some of the dirt and mud that was caked up in its fur.
“Well, its an improvement.” He said, reaching down and picking Litten off the ground. “So anything got your attention around here Matteo?” he asked.

"Hm, I guess that makes sense. Never really thought about it that way." Matteo replied to Tristen, having never given much thought to holding back on evolving his Pokemon to get stronger moves sooner. In fact he had always rushed to evolve his Pokemon as quick as possible because then they would be stronger, or at least that's what he thought but here was Tristen and Litten showing him a different way. He was learning something every time he hung out with Tristen.
Shaking off his introspect he turned his focus back to Tristen to consider his question before scanning the around just outside the forest a bit. "Hm...not really. That Meowth seems to be enjoying the sun and I don't really think we should go messing with the local Voltorb...let's head into the forest and see what's in there." The boy suggested, looking back at his Buizel to see if that sounded good, the Pokemon nodding in agreement. With that confirmation he decided to proceed towards the woods.
A few minutes later the boys were walking in through the woods north of Medali, quickly finding all sorts of Pokemon about. A trio of Shroomish were huddled up underneath a tree, trying to pretend to just be normal fungus but not really doing a good job at hiding to eyes that knew what they were. A Pachirisu was startled by them as it fled up a tree just over from the Shroomish, both species of Pokemon not good targets for Matteo's Buizel so he wasn't too concerned with them. Matteo would stop suddenly at one point and stick his arm out in front of Tristen to get him to stop walking, then lightly pulling Tristen off to the side behind a tree before peeking out and pointing at a small red creature crouched down, poking at a pile of dead leaves, the touch of its finger causing them to smolder much to the amusement of the Pokemon.
"See that? A Charcadet. Looks pretty distracted, a perfect target for Buizel. Watch this." Matteo said confidently with a smile as he nudged Buizel to get down, the Pokemon scurrying off his shoulder and eventually coming to stand in front of him. "Go on, Buizel, hit it with an Aqua Jet." Buizel would proceed with the command as it began to charge up water all around it, the Charcadet beginning to look around confused at this point as it thought it felt something. Unfortunately for the Charcadet it would not sense them quick enough but definitely felt something as Buizel rocketed off the ground and came crashing into the Pokemon, sending them both slamming into a tree and causing a Pineco to drop down from said tree, hanging from a thread.
"C-char..." The Charcadet groaned as it reeled from the attack, Buizel now on top of it. Quickly regaining its bearings the Charcadet retaliated with an Ember to Buizel's face, the Water type swatting the embers away more annoyed them energy, flicking them away into the air and causing the Pineco above them to rattle annoyed by the heat. Matteo was unaware of the Pineco, too wrapped up in the battle at hand and the easy win they were about to have.
"Buizel! Hit it with a Water Gun!" The boy commanded. Buizel would then proceed, while still on top of Charcadet, to blast the thing point blank in the face with a Water Gun. The Charcadet would flail and squirm around as it cried out in pain from the douse it was getting, flames beginning to swirl around them both as it attempted to form a Fire Spin. The Pineco was now swaying back and forth as its anger began to swell.

Tristen, with Litten in his arms, would follow Matteo off into the woods to see what else this part of the region may hold. As time went on, Tristen started to be a little concerned if this place was good to train his Buizel at all. Seemed like this place was loaded with Grass types, dotted with the occasional Electric type. Nothing that would give Buizel a good day where as this would be a borderline paradise for Litten…well, provided he could stay out of the various powders that grass types like Shroomish or the Toedscool seems to like to spew out everywhere.
Tristen perked up and then got off to the side, getting low on Matteo’s word. He’d then look around the Growlithe Hybrid, seeing what got his attention. A Charcadet. While he didn’t see it, Freth did mention to him she caught one herself during one of the trips with Ms. Raifort. So that was what they looked like. It was actually interesting looking, if nothing else, and at least there was something different out here. He then looked up, seeing Matteo and his Buizel make their move on the Pokémon. Tristen would stay back, just as Matteo did during the battle with Toedscool, keeping a look out and if nothing else, hoping to see everything what this Charcadet could do.
Though in the midst of the fight, something caught Tristen’s attention. Dangling a bit above the battle that was transpiring, a Pokémon that was about to get a word in about the disturbance below it. “Oh no…” Tristen said. Quickly, Tristen put Litten on the ground, pointing towards the Pineco above. “Litten, Fake Out!” Tristen shouted. The Litten scrambled towards the battle then ran around. The cat hit the tree, claws out to scramble up the side of it then gave a hard leap, attempting to latch onto the Pineco and slap away at it, perhaps pull it down in the process. Either way, stop this proverbial bomb from going off.

"Huh?" Matteo muttered as Tristen sent his Litten off, initially not realizing what was going on until he watched the cat scurry up the tree and latch onto the Pineco, the cat using its weight to pull it down to the ground. "Where did that come from?" Matteo asked, not really expecting an answer. As for the Pineco it would hit the ground hard enough to knock the wind out of it, the bag worm Pokemon's eyes swirling as it attempted to recover from flinching. If Tristen knew Pineco he knew it would blow up the first chance it got so it was best to put it down quick.
Just a few feet away from Litten and the Pineco the battle with Charcadet continued, a Fire Spin materializing around them before, Buizel stepping back off the Pokemon as it attempted to escape but alas it could not. "Tch, that's annoying. Buizel, another Water Gun! Put it down!" Matteo ordered.
As Buizel inhaled and prepared the Water Gun the Charcadet saw its moment and with a glint in its eye leaped off the ground and delivered a Ghost energy empowered punch to the stomach of the Buizel as it executed an Astonish. Buizel would kneel over from the hit and fall to its knees, grabbing its stomach in pain. "Buizel! You okay!?" Matteo called out to his Pokemon inside the vortex of fire but there was no response. Buizel flinched, the flames licking its fur, the vortex growing towards Pineco and Litten.

Unfortunately, in Tristen’s attempt to rescue Buizel from interference from a potentially explosive Pineco, turned this battle into effectively a double-battle. Tristen started to notice how the Charcadet was trying to corral the two Pokémon with a Fire Spin. While the damage to the two of them wouldn’t really be all that great, they didn’t need to stay there. Not with the threat of Pineco about to ruin everyone’s day. “We got to ignore the Charcadet for a second and deal with that Pineco. You think you can get Buizel to follow Litten up?” Tristen asked. “Litten, use Fire Fang! Go after Pineco!” The cat would sprint in, pushing through the vortex of fire conjured by the Charcadet. The cat’s maw would ignite as he then went to pounce on the bug to gnaw with its fiery bite.

"Pineco? Oh! Yeah! That's not good...uh Buizel? Our fight is with that thing! Use Water Gun on it!" Matteo ordered his Buizel after Tristen pointed out the real problem here. The only problem for him and Buizel in this moment as the fact that his Pokemon was trapped inside the Fire Spin and couldn't risk his Pokemon getting burned by passing through the flames, even if it was a Water type, they had a whole day of training ahead of them after all. So the boy decided to go for the range move as his Buizel inhaled and unleashed a Water Gun at the Pineco from inside this Fire Spin, the jet of water piercing through the flames.
The Pineco was a sitting duck thanks to its flinching, Litten free to clamp down on the Pineco in its burning maw, inflicting a Super Effective hit on the Bug Pokemon causing it to cry out in pain. The moment Litten released the Pineco Buizel's Water Gun would come bearing down on it, blasting the tiny bug off the ground and sending it flying a ways until it hit the ground, bounced a few times, and came to a rolling stop, knocked out cold.
Charcadet however was still very much in his fight, seeing an opportunity for revenge in this moment. As Buizel focused on the Pineco the Charcadet could get on its hands in a pose reminiscent of a sprinter, flames flickering to life around it. With a cry the Charcadet would run towards the Fire Spin ensnared Buizel, the flames around it building along with its speed until it was completely engulfed in fire and running far quicker than it had before. "Buizel! Watch out!" Matteo cried out in vain as Charcadet came crashing into his Pokemon with a Flame Charge, sending them both tumbling out of the Fire Spin.
Matteo would watch as the two Pokemon tumbled across the ground and groaned. Seeing that the Pineco was taken care of he decided now was the time to end this. "One more Water Gun should do it!" Matteo ordered his Pokemon. With a hiss Buizel would draw in deep and then unleash a jet of water straight for the face of the Charcadet, the pressure of the Water Gun sending it flying off the Buizel and then hitting the ground with a wet thud. Charcadet fainted.
"Geez, that was more than I expected. You okay, Buizel?" Matteo asked as he walked up to his Pokemon, helped it up and then let it back on his back. Once it was comfortable Matteo would turn back to Tristen. "Thanks for helping us back there. The last thing we needed was that living tree ornament exploding. Any who, it's your turn to find something. Hopefully something not prone to suicide tactics."

“There we go.” Tristen said once the double teaming on the Pineco was successful. However, the Charcadet finding opportunity wasn’t lost on the two trainers, something that Matteo was sure to make him regret. “Litten, back up for now, let Buizel take this!” He’d command the fire cat. The Litten would run back to get away from the battle that Matteo initially instigated with the Charcadet. The two would watch the Buizel and Charcadet clash with each other, but the Charcadet could not remain steadfast to the water onslaught the Buizel had. “That wasn’t too bad, short of the Pineco wanting to get a word in.” Tristen said. “Good work, Buizel!” He then called out to his Pokémon.
“Okay…so, my turn huh? Lets see what we can get in.” He said, looking down at Litten. The fire cat mewed in response, ready to go with just about anything that could be sent their way. Tristen would then walk off going through the woods to see what else the forest held. It was still more of the same for the most part, and Tristen started to become a little convinced the Pokémon out here was all he was going to see. Short of one outlier he saw in the distance that he wanted to not provoke the wrath of. A Ursaring off in the distance apparently just sunbathing for the most part. While Tristen did have Pokémon that could fight that bear, he didn’t really want to fight it. There was no point. He was out here for Litten as was Matteo for Buizel. And individually, he didn’t think it’d pan out. The only way he imagined it panning out is double teaming it, but Tristen didn’t want to test fate that much. Maybe if Litten had already evolved a stage, maybe, but as for now? He didn’t want to risk it.
As he continued combing the forest, something did show up that might be okay to be fought, though it was going to be tougher than normal. And so far, as far as what Tristen was concerned, possibly a rarity in this part of the region. A smaller, mostly pink and white Pokémon, with two large leaves that seemed to give the illusion of hair. Short and stout, but sweet smelling as it pranced about the forest. “A Steenee…hmm.” It was possible, Tristen figured, for Litten to take it down if he was careful enough. Better chances than with the bear earlier, for certain. And it theoretically should be a bit stronger than the normal fare of grass types he saw so far like that Toedscool or the Shroomish so it in essence should be better for Litten to take that Pokémon on. It wasn’t like this thing was a Tsareena yet. “What do you think, Litten?”
“Nyrrao.” The cat meowed out.
“Sure, lets give it a shot.” He said, sitting the cat back down on the ground. “Hang tight, Matteo…we’re going to see about that one.” The two of them walked about, taking it a similar fashion to the Toedscool earlier. Though at least he doesn’t expect this thing to go off like a shot. “Okay…Litten! Fire Spin!” Tristen commanded. If nothing else, he needed to make sure that this grass type wasn’t going to be in that much of a hurry to leave. The cat exhaled flames that started to swirl about the grass type.
