Zander slowly lowered his hands, looked to Elmira, and motioned for her to come out of her hiding place before looking back to the old man. "... Omnic?" he asked, and he sounded confused.

Elmach grunted and flipped his hand toward Elmira as she crept out from her hiding spot and moved behind Zander. "Yes. Her of course." he replied. "Honestly, you can't feel the power in her aura? You're of pure blood, aren't you? Shouldn't be above your ability." he said, then paused a moment in thought. "....though your powers aren't familiar to me. Bah.... you're from this world, aren't you? Or some other. So hard to tell..."

"Pure blood? Yeah, I guess..." Zander said. "My family line stretches back..." He looked up in thought and counted on his fingers. "Well right now my most famous ancestor should be active, and I'm descended from Leonardo da Vinci, Nicholas Flamel, and Arion, the Lord of Atlantis... So yeah, I can trace my ancestry back tens of thousands of years. Arion was a respected member of the Atlantean community around... 45,000 BC, I think."
The way he said this, sounding almost bored, meant that he knew this well enough and wasn't really expecting or wanting to impress anyone. It was almost like he was tired of the knowledge and reciting it, and like it didn't amount to much for him.

It may not have sounded like bragging to Zander, but to a tired old man who had been walking down a street being ridiculed by a group of teenage boys...it sounded just a little bit like bragging. Elmira was just stunned at the names Zander had listed off as though they were nothing. "D...how are you not proud of having those people as part of your history?" Elmira asked. Elmach simply grumbled in his chair and tapped his cane on the ground.

Zander sighed. "Mostly because my family and peers won't shut up about it. 'Oh, look at all these famous ancestors you have! Why can't you be more like them? We're going to make sure you get to be more like them!' And that kind of pressure is why I'm glad I'm not in the Hidden City anymore," he said. "Matter of fact, now that I'm a thousand or so years in the past, I don't have to worry about them looking for me. Hopefully..."

"Well I hope they are!" the old man barked. Tapping his staff on the concrete ground. "With an attitude like that, you *need* to have a little ambition shoved up your-" the man began to preach. Elmira didn't care to hear what he was about to go on about. She had this odd feeling that he'd be voicing his opinion for the next five minutes. She also had this odd feeling that she should at least know of this man. But... he wasn't ringing a bell. Carefully, Elmira leaned over and whispered to Zander as the older man complained. "Great Grandparents owned their own businesses, grandpa was a film actor, parents are in the legal business making millions, sister's in Harvard, and I'm the one in the mental institution. I understand the bit about pressure." she whispered to him quietly.

Zander nodded a bit to Elmira, but listened to Elmach nonetheless.
"Alright, let me stop you right there," Zander said. "Judging by how you're going on, I figure you're from a society like mine. Closed-off and all, right? Well, by the time I was born, most everyone in the Hidden City were all bigoted against baseline humans and obsessed with blood purity. Is it the same for you? Because if so, I've heard this schpiel too many times to count from my own father. To put it bluntly: Just because you've got magical powers doesn't give you the right to be a bigot. Now if you'll excuse me, I'd like to spend my time somewhere else."
And with that, Zander turned on his heel and motioned for Elmira to follow him, changing his own clothes to ones similar to Elmira's own so as not to attract any more attention.

Elmira looked to Zander with wide eyes as he changed his clothes and walked past her. She took a quick glance back at the older man. His eyes were wide, and had an expression on his face as though no one had ever spoken to him like that before. He also appeared to be in the process of trying to say something, but nothing was really coming out. It lasted all but a few stunned seconds though. His thick silver eyebrows burried deep into his brow, and a quick flash of light flickered in the old man's eyes. He put his weight on his wooden staff, and the orb began to glow as he stood straight again. Despite his hunched stance when they had first met him... the man was now standing as straight and as proud as could be. Elmira's eyes widened, and she quickly backed up towards Zander. "And just because the humans have their technology doesn't mean they can slaughter creatures into extinction and destroy the very earth they live on." the old man hissed.

Zander felt the power in Elmach's staff, and stopped. He didn't manage to hear what Elmach said, but he turned to look at the man, and he sighed.
"Look..." he said. "I'm sorry, for acting all smart. I'm just... I'm so sick of my people acting that way when they don't have a right to. I mean really, just what gives us the right to look down on people for being different? I had hoped for a moment that it'd be different here, since Homo Magi were much more accepted around this time where I come from, but... I guess not."
He actually seemed disappointed, really. He sighed again and shrugged. "C'mon, El..." he said, and he started walking again.

The light of the staff died down a bit when Zander apologized and explained himself. Elmira followed after Zander, but kept her eyes on the older man. "Hmph. You'll learn then..." the older man grumbled. He could go on about how *their kind* were the ones who had always been treated differently. Being side shows or some kind of feared being with a magic atomic bomb or something tied to their finger. Who needs to live in that kind of a world. "Suppose you'd better keep that Omnic close to you boy. You'll need 'er if you're going to waltz around in the human world."

"Thanks, but I should be fine as long as I don't make anyone angry." Zander said as he kept walking. "At least, I hope so..."
"So," Zander said to Elmira as they left the alleyway. "I figure you know the terrain a little better than I would. I know this is New York and all, but..."

"Well..." Elmira began, looking around the city. Trying to find as many land marks as she could. "This place is.... mostly like the city I know. Some of the buildings I know have been replaced by strange ones." she said, pausing a moment as she spotted a large white tower in the distance. From the other buildings... that tower should be black instead of white. And... shaped a little differently. It definitely wasn't the infamous Blackstone Tower that should be standing there.

And, as if reading the young girl's thoughts, a tall black tower DID suddenly catch her attention. A black, very finely tailored suit suddenly blocked her path as she rounded the corner of the building. Elmira blinked, and quickly took a step back, mumbling out an appology as she looked up to see who she had nearly run into. "Ah, I'm sorry. I wasn't watching where I was... walking... to..." she said, as he eyes trailed up the man's red tie and rested on his face. Then she became very quiet. Richard Blackstone stared down at the girl, regarding her for merely a moment before nodding and moving to walk past her. "No harm done." he replied as he went around the two children and continued down the street. Elmira turned and watched him leave with wide, almost disbelieving eyes. Understandable... that man had been dead for years in her universe. To see the infamous Blackstone in person... yeesh... he was intimidating.

Zander watched the exchange, and frowned. The man radiated a magical aura. Not as powerful as some of the people Zander knew, but what got his attention was that he detected something... Odd. Some kind of immortality spell. That was interesting...
But, what did Zander know? He was still just a kid after all. He watched as the man passed, and looked back to Elmira.
"You okay? You look like you've seen a ghost," he said to her.

Elmira just stared for a second longer before it finally seemed to register that the boy had said something. She blinked and looked back at him, then shook her head quickly and took another glance back.
"I.... no. He's..." she began, then quickly turned her head back around to face Zander. "He's supposed to be dead..." she said in a low whisper. "And... he's not a good man. At all..."
