2+5 = 7 FAIL -1 HP for failing.

In his haste to continue training, Devadas failed to get his proper footing and he slipped off the tree. It was in fact, quite embarrassing to fail so badly. Still good things came to those who were patient, and even his core tenants told him to slow down and evaluate his surroundings. Devadas took a few moments to take a few deep breaths and center himself before taking off at the tree again. He couldn't train acrobatics on the ground, since he couldn't give it his all unless there was some serious danger involved. This wasn't an impossible challenge, but it was difficult enough to make him sweat. Perhaps after this he would add weights to make it harder to get off the ground. It would train both his strength and his dexterity, although at this point he was more interested in just getting off the ground.

It appeared that the soul of this particular tree wasn't about to let Devadas use it as a ramp. Shrugging off another fall onto the ground, he chose another tree a few meters away to use as a launching point. Being on the ground was a boring, perhaps one day he would be giving his dream job... but that was still a dream. In order to get there he would have to grow as a ninja, and as a follower of the path. Interestingly enough pacifism wasn't exactly the most realistic or obvious thing associated with being a ninja, but Devadas was a pacifist and everyone would have to cope with that reality. Sighing again, he took off towards the new tree, hoping to finally continue on with his training.

13+5 = 18 PASS

As Devadas kicked off the first tree he did a sideways flip before swinging around another tree and into the air. Again he went for a back flip as he had before, determined to conquer it so he could move on. Style wasn't too high on his list of important things, but grace was. Gracefulness beat raw power, reason beat ignorance, and law beat chaos. By applying grace to his art, by applying his religion to his life, and by showing that being could defeat rage, he would spread his path throughout the world. Even if this wasn't his dream, it was his duty. If his monastery had its way, he would be stuck in a stuffy mountain retreat copying scriptures for the rest of his life instead of training himself to help those who were less fortunate. As his mind drifted, Devadas failed to take complete notice of the branch that was getting ever closer to his face, even though he was a good seven feet off the ground.

8+5 = 13 FAIL -1 HP for failing, -1 HP for 5 ft.

As the branch cut his face, Devadas felt the world spin around him as he plummeted towards the ground. Yet again it seemed the earth wanted to make sure he understood the dangers associated with daydreaming while hurdling through the air. But this presented a unique opportunity to Devadas. Throwing his feet over his head, he tried to make sure he would land on his feet when he hit the ground. Hopefully he wouldn't break his legs or anything like that, but anything was possible. He just hoped that the other ninja nearby didn't see him failing so badly. Such a disgrace would tarnish the otherwise decent reputation that he had. It was true that he was a loner by any standards, but he didn't need to be considered weak as well.

Devadas managed to hit the ground without falling forward, which was a small victory in itself. At least this time he didn't manage to slam head first into the ground and break his head open like a raw egg. With the dojo only ten or so meters away, Devadas began to run towards it, preparing to jump and swing himself upwards at any moment. Being a ninja was all about flexibility and spontaneous actions after all. If someone couldn't predict your movements, you could easily run circles around them. Some people might call it cowardice, but being able to beat someone without throwing a punch was much more impressive than beating someone to a pulp with nothing but brute force. Violence bred violence, accepting the futility of certain actions bred change. It was simple and complicated at the same time, but sometimes Devadas wondered if his path was the right one after all.

As Devadas jumped to catch a branch it broke and he soon found himself on his back gazing at a forest canopy. He took a moment to listen to the birds and other animals moving around above him and wished that one day he would be as nimble as them. Pulling himself together, he sat up and admired the tattoos he had received as part of his acceptance into monastic life. They were an ever present reminder that his god did not tolerate failure on any level, lest he be reincarnated as a beetle or something. Frowning slightly he stood up and walked back to where he had started running before. Facing the opposite direction, Devadas quickly twisted and started running towards the dojo again. This time he would grab a branch that didn't break under his weight. Observing one's surroundings was something everyone had to work on.

7+5 = 12 FAIL. -1 HP for failing.

Another branch broke trying to support his weight, and he hit the ground rather unflatteringly. He really did need more training, and perhaps to lose a bit of weight as well. He thought he was light, he could see the bones underneath his skin for crying out loud. With that option eliminated, Devadas considered his options silently. He kissed the skull that hung around his neck for good luck, praying that he would stop failing as often as he was. Standing up, he ran towards another tree, hoping to kick off of it like he had so many times previously. As long as he didn't manage to fall flat on his face, everything would keep progressing smoothly. Of course if fate intervened, there wasn't much he could do about it. Still fate was not something that stopped Devadas. There were only two things for certain in his mind: He would die one day, and when it happened he would be reincarnated based on the choices he had made in his life. As Devadas' foot connected with the tree, he wondered when his god would call him to the next life.

Devadas flew through the air as if it was natural for him. In truth the only thing that kept him from freaking out and hurting himself was his mental discipline. He was good at keeping his cool in dangerous situations, even if it made him seem a bit distant and cold at times. As he flew through the air about five feet off the ground he flipped forward, hoping to kick off another tree to go even higher. Given his past record it was a dangerous idea, but anything worth doing had risk attached to it. He wondered what he looked like flying through the air like he was. He probably seemed like a psychopath compared to the other ninja around him. They at least seemed to be doing something collectively as a team. Devadas didn't know if he would be assigned a team, nor did he know if anyone would want him along. He didn't really have a good set of skills for combat, and he had an average intelligence. Not much use when it came to fighting other ninjas.

NAT 20 AUTO PASS

Suddenly feeling a surge of strength, Devadas pushed off the tree and flew about ten feet off the ground. The force of him hitting the tree and subsequently flying off it had left slight imprints in the tree. Devadas would have to make sure to pray for the tree's soul after he was finished with his training. As soared through the air, he aimed himself towards the room of the dojo, and tried to flip himself onto it. But that wasn't good enough for him, and it certainly wasn't enough to finish his training by doing something he had already been doing. This time he would finish by landing on his hands. But why stop there? Why not try to land on only one hand and stay completely balanced? Sure it was ambitious and dangerous, but so was being a ninja. At least if he succeeded he would know if what he had been doing had paid off at all.

Devadas spun through the air like a top, flipping four or five times as fast as he could before he landed on the dojo roof on one hand. His body was completely vertical, and he used his free hand to help him kiss the skull around his neck as thanks for the good luck he had received. Now all that was left to do was to figure out where to go from there. Sure he had been able to get here, but what should he do now? Should he attempt to hold this position for a long period of time to train his endurance? Or should he just drop it and go train his strength or something? It was a conundrum that Devadas didn't know the answer to, but at least he had time to think about it.

Devadas kept himself balanced on one hand as he held himself on the roof. He probably looked really strange being up here as he was. Still being up here provided an interesting challenge. Devadas let himself calmly slip into a relaxed state as he began focusing on the area around him. It was quite a challenge to stay on one hand while also meditating, but perhaps it would be more beneficial than just sitting on the ground. Devadas tried to focus on things that were far away, hoping that by cutting off his sense of sight he would increase his listening capability. The logic behind it was shaky, but it seemed like the best thing to do at the moment.

8+5 = 13 FAIL

As his grip faltered, Devadas tried to center himself so he didn't fall off the roof. Luckily he was able to keep his balance and stay on one hand. Unfortunately he was no more aware of the world around him, and thus he began to listen to the world around him. Without sight, perhaps the world would become clearer. Seeing was only one way to perceive the world after all. Devadas wondered how what people thought of him standing on one hand on top of the dojo. They probably wondered what on earth he was doing up there, considered he didn't really look like them, nor was he acting like them. It wasn't like they mattered very much in the long run, he had training to do.

17+5 = 22 PASS

Devadas could hear a bird moving around in the trees above him; its small feet lightly shaking the branch as it moved around. Listening like this really was relaxing, or at least it would be for most people. Standing on one hand on the roof of a dojo with your eyes closed wasn't exactly something most people considered relaxing. Suicidal maybe, but definitely not relaxing. Still it was good for training, even if the thought of falling to his death constantly kept nudging Devadas in the back of his mind. He had to focus on his training; there was no room to be sloppy here. Perhaps if he tried Devadas would be able to hear the kids he had seen from before. It was doubtful that they were trying to be quiet.

As he tried to hear the kids in the distance, a gust of wind threw him off balance and he began to falter. Thinking fast, Devadas pulled his left hand back and switched to his right hand. Luckily it managed to stabilize him so he didn't fall to his death. Taking a deep breath he tried to focus his attention on hearing those other ninja in the forest. He had thought that he had been able to hear them before he fell, but it wasn't clear whether or not Devadas had actually imagined those voices or not. Hopefully no more gusts of wind would knock him off balance, he really didn't want to be stuck doing this exercise forever.

As he strained his ears, Devadas could hear what seemed like a struggle, but he wasn't sure. He still had a long way to go with his training, so perhaps by the end he would be able to hear them. Devadas also wondered if the guy below him cared about what he was doing. It was doubtful, considered that he had probably sent those other kids on their way. Definitely not someone to mess with if you valued your health. Surely he had been the reason that those kids were off messing with the delicate balance of the forest? It didn't really concern Devadas in any way, but he didn't want to be stuck on the receiving end of an angry Jounin should his squad come back in failure.
