http://www.facebook.com/note.php?created&&suggest¬e_id=408747658655#!/group.php?gid=349863541779It's been two days since the Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500 presented by Target, and we have a lot to cover.
Pocono, Grounds of first suspension
It was announced yesterday that due to an on track incident between defending points champion Nikoo Azizkhan and Emma Sawyer during the Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500 that Prism Motorsports will have to find a new driver to race in next weeks Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 at Michigan. Sawyer is also getting fined 25 points and $25,000 dollars after spinning Azizkhan out in Turn 2. After talking it over with Joe Gibbs, Prism Motorsports team owner Tommy Baldwin has decided to put Tyler Christensen in the #36 State Water Heaters Toyota at Michigan. It will be Christensen's first start in the Sprint Cup Series. We talked with Christensen about the move and this is the response we got: "I think it's a great move! I cannot wait to see how the Cup cars compare to the Nationwide cars and the Camping World Trucks. It's been great running for Joe Gibbs and cannot wait for the opportunity."
"I think its good that Tyler is getting a shot at the big leagues," Kelly Wolpert, who shares a ride with Christensen in the Nationwide Series, and also drives the #18 Cup Car, "it'll give me another shot to beat him." Wolpert was referring to the inaugural Camping World Truck Series race in which she finished second.
"Now I think it's time to talk about the point at hand," Wolpert commented, referring to Sawyer's suspension, "I think it'll be good for her to sit out a race, she has been getting a little bit of a hot streak lately, same thing happened to Mattisse Graham in the development league, and look how she's turned out. I feel bad about turning Emma at Eight Bowl and I'll take full responsibility for that one, but when you turn a driver that has no beef with you at all, that's just wrong."
S&L Racing starting to shine
It's been three weeks since the All-Star race and two Mark Harvey,Jr.'s first Top 5 finish of the year, and it seems like he's been rolling! Harvey,Jr. has gained 11 spots since the All-Star which moves him up to 25th in the points, the highest he's been since the DAYTONA 500. Harvey's other cars, driven by Nikoo Azizkhan, Bernadette Azizkhan and Taylor Wilson are not doing that bad as well. Nikoo Azizkhan & Taylor Wilson currently have their cars qualified for the chase, with Azizkhan scored 6th and Wilson scored 12th. Bernadette Azizkhan is also showing improvement from previous years as well, after finishing dead last in the points of the inaugural season in 2008 Azizkhan is scored 24th this season, 1 position higher than her team owner. We caught up with Harvey who told us some surprising news about the 2011 season. "2010 has been great for S&L Racing, we've got some great sponsors and great drivers, one of which we unfortunately have to let go. I wish Taylor Wilson the best of luck at Hendrick Motorsports and look forward to seeing how she does there."
Aside from the news of letting go a driver, an interesting replacement is set up for the #19 Gaiaonline.com Ford Fusion for the 2011 season: "As sad as I am to see a fellow member of my team go, I am happy to announce that S&L Racing will be acquiring Aubrie Cohn as the driver of the #19 car for 2011. I found out that her contract with NCW Racing is going to be up at the end of this season and broke a deal with her as soon as I could." We look forward to seeing how that combination of drivers works when the 2011 season starts.
Aubrie Cohn continues to dominate
Speaking of Aubrie Cohn, she opened up her points lead to 95 points and becomes the first rookie to lead the points for 6 straight races after finishing 10th at Pocono. Team owner Geoffrey Bodine says he is really impressed with the improvement that she has shown, and we talked to him about the driver change for 2011. "Yeah, Cohn's deal with S&L Racing is indeed a fact. Hopefully our team will be good without her. I don't think I've seen a rookie this good since Jimmie Johnson burst on to the Winston Cup Scene in 2002. That girl is definitely going places in this sport and I will definitely miss her being around the shop."
Tamarrier Watson furious after Pocono
On track incident's will tick off any driver in this sport, and after a couple of days things seem to blow over, but with the condition's of one from Saturday's Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500, I have a feeling this one might get out of hand. After the first wreck, Nikoo Azizkhan continued to ride around the 2.5 mile track to try and gain some points. As the cars went down the Long Pond Straightaway between Turns 1 and 2, Azizkhan got in front of some cars that were faster than she was, a few cars were able to get by, but the #5 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet of Tamarrier Watson got trapped, as Aubrie Cohn was able to get alongside Watson. Being held up and not being able to pass allowed Bernadette Azizkhan, Nikoo's sister to get a big run on the #5 car. As the cars dove off into Turn 2, the #9 UC Davis Ford hooked the right rear quarter panel of Watson's car, sending Watson sliding off into the Tunnel Turn wall. Fortunately, nobody hit Watson, but after the race Watson had some choice words for the three drivers. "That **** was completely uncalled for! I know they don't like me but that was ******* ridiculous! I think that all three of them should be fined and suspended! And if NASCAR doesn't do something about it, I will!"
"I don't feel like I did anything wrong," Nikoo commented on what Watson said, "if I was holding anyone up I am sorry, but there is no need to react like he did."
"I feel the same way," said Bernadette who we talked to along with Nikoo, "I did not mean to get into him, I just had no where to go and things like that happen. And he shouldn't blame Aubrie, she had nothing to do with the wreck. I know they've had issues in the past but she did nothing wrong here."
Rest assured, NASCAR will be keeping an eye on this situation in races to come.
let me know what you think, my friends are loving it, and that's pretty much the majority of all three fields (Cup, Nationwide, & Trucks) Openings are usually popping up at the end of the year on a normal basis so feel free to join
