"Great! I used to watch them, but the lights of town probably made them harder to see. It'll be nice to see them." She noticed the fish swimming past and watched them, falling silent.
"Dari's going to help me splash you next time," she informed Toby.

"Is that what this is about?" Toby asked, still watching the fish until they moved too far away to see under the glare of the sun on the water. "Undermining the man who houses you? You're terrible friends. Also, I shall mercilessly defeat you in the Great Splashing of twenty-fifteen."

"We were plotting our victory secretly until you interrupted," she said. "And if you fell in, we'd automatically win!" She smiled and gave Toby a light nudge. "We'll prActice at HQ."

"Oh, we're on the boat when this happens?" Toby asked with a chuckle. The nudge was minute. "Some might call that attempted murder, you know."
Dari waved a dismissive hand. "You can swim."

Maia shook her head. "I told you, no dying. If you started to drown I'd rescue you." She took his hand, frowning thoughtfully. How could they win without putting Toby in danger?

"I still don't like it," Maia said. "I guess we could eat." She wasn't very hungry; maybe She shouldn't have suggested a picnic. The butterflies made her feel as if she wouldn't need to eat for a while.

Toby had gotten up to an early alarm set close to his bed, rose to get ready as quietly as possible, and decided to pick up breakfast on the run lest the smells of breakfast accidentally wake Maia up. Dari remained to head in at the normal time and was bustling about getting things ready. He wasn't very good at breakfast, he didn't think. Maia could have cereal or oatmeal. Maybe scrambled eggs, if she really wanted them.

Maia had gotten dressed and brushed her hair: Toby didn't seem to be in his room. Had he already gone downstairs? She made her way down and found Dari in the kitchen. She stared.
"Did Toby go to work early?" she asked.

"He did, yes. It's that time of the month," Dari said, smiling up to Maia. "I'm afraid I'm not the same master in the kitchen. What would you like to eat?"
He had clearly injected the projector for their morning commute, his usual fare, but without his sunglasses on his eyes only glowed more brightly with a grander array of color.

"I'll make toast," Maia assured him, taking out two pieces of bread and putting them in the toaster. "You didn't go with him to help," she prompted. "Because of me? I would've gone too." What time of the month? Was Toby alright? Why hadn't Dari gone with him? She waited until the toast popped up, spread some jam on it and ate.
"Lets go."

Dari was somewhat relieved when Maia stepped forward to take over breakfast duties. He wasn't exactly the most experienced when it came to food.
"He didn't want you to have to get up so early," the alien agreed, "He doesn't need me at this time of day. He'll be very busy, but if you need me I'll be there." He noted Maia was rushing to leave but figured that wasn't so rare with his recent discoveries. Maia liked him. Unfortunately today would not be the day to socialize with Toby. He followed her out toward the car, pulling on his jacket.

Maia made a face. Bleh. That probably meant Toby wouldn't be able to taken a moment to talk like usual. "I'll be fine," she assured Dari. She climbed into the car after it was unlocked. "I'll keep Seamus busy."

"I have no doubt you will be fine," Dari agreed. He slid into the car and began out of the driveway. "Most of the people you spend time with will be busy today, but I'm sure anyone will be willing to help if you need it. Seamus should not be busy."

"Seamus is never busy," Maia said, with a smile. Unless he was napping, Seamus could be found easily. And he was often willing to spend time with her. "So do I have classes today?" she wondered. If Lori was busy, and Dari would probably be busy helping Toby do whatever he was doing, she would have to find a book.
