Tayuya watched Nazuki as she was enthralled in the genjutsu...her face was emotionless. It takes a truly strong mind to stare death in the face and except it and move on. Tayuya stopped playing and then released Nazuki from the genjutsu. Nazuki nodded and acknowledged it as an incredible technique...
"no," said Tayuya with some sort of awkwardness..."you're a a kunoichi with a brilliant mind." Nazuki was surprised at the compliment, but noticed that it was better than being called an idiot. She picked up her jade flute again and started playing a haunting melody, and Tayuya had the feeling of wandering in a maze...The girl is learning fast.

As Tayuya walked through the corridor, she decided to quit playing around and breakout. A door suddenly appeared and she opened it, leading to the outside world. Nazuki sulked as Tayuya broke out of the genjutsu, and she put down her flute and sighed. "what did you expect?" asked Tayuya in a flat voice. "to beat one of the sound four with a single technique that was her own creation?"
Nazuki shrugged and noticed that it made sense, but she couldn't really see the poitn of the genjutsu if it couldn't capture people. Tayuya sighed and told her that the difference is that she had alot more chakra, and Nazuki would also need a greater chakra capacity if she wanted to capture her in a genjutsu. Nazuki nodded and Tayuya flickered away, never ot be seen again. Nazuki tightly gripped her new jade flute and made a point ot search for Tayuya and thank her some day.

Nazuki trekked slowly through the streets as it was dark and there wasn't much to do. Shejust had dinner and it was good for digestion at least. As she walked, there was a low rumble under foot and then a hideous-looking woman popped up out of the ground. She had mottled grey skin and huge buckteeth.
"uh...who are you?" asked Nazuki without showing any signs of being intimidated. "I'm kagerou fuuma, and you are one of my kin..." said the squat woman in a nasal and gruff voice. "But we don't look anything alike," said Nazuki with obvious disbelief.

Kagerou did not answer, but made a savage jerk with a kunai in her hand and slashed Nazuki on the arm. She then pinned down the arm and whispered into Nazuki's ear: "watch..." Annoyed and in pain, Nazuki watched as the injured skin started peeling off of her arm and forming a scar. And then the scar started disappearing.
"as long as that spot isn't reinjured for a day, it will heal completly...this is one of the specialties of our clan. We can shed our own skin to avoid cellular damage."

Nazuki watched the wound heal and realized that this was the factor that kept her wounds from getting infested when she used to inject drugs into her system. Nazuki knew there had to be something wrong here...she wasn't even human if her body could do this kind of thing. She was in the same category as those other people with kekkai genkai that were feared among the nations.
Kagerou watched her expression and came up with something that Nazuki will remember forever:"You have a skill, either you can use it for good or use it for evil...you can never hide from it." Nazuki looked into kagero's eyes and nodded.

"Good...and you know that this is the decision of a lifetime, right?" asked Kagerou as she led Nazuki away to the training grounds to train for a few hours before night fully kicks in. "Yes...I guess so, though I've never actually been motivated." answered Nazuki, trying to shake off some of that responsibility.
"Well, don't think too much of it, it'll come naturally. Now let's teach you how to shed your skin, shall we? Even though it's an instinct, it's still good to know how to do it by your will."

"To molt, just concentrate chakra into the licing layer of the skin. This creates a force that will instantly push off all the dead cells in your body. A layer of skin and fluid will cover your clothing, therefore preserving a perfectly translucent image of your very self." explained kagerou as she started molding her chakra.
Nazuki nodded and followed suit, molding her chakra to the very edge of her skin. And then she felt like there was a thousand feathers raining down on her as her dead skin peeled off. Nazuki arched her back and then broke through the shell of her old self.

Nazuki watched as the sunset started coming, bringing with it a subtle transiton from light into darkness. It was usually this time of the day when she felt most aware. The border between day and night. The period just as one finishes dinner on a summer day and sits around, lounging and thinking...
So am I a ninja now? thought Nazuki as she watched kagerou wolf down another sandwich. What exactly is a ninja? and why does a ninja have a duty to his or her village. Why can't one learn ninjutsu and still remain a normal person? For a whikle, Nazuki was totally lost in her own thoughts.

Kagerou noticd the blank look in her eyes and asked whether she was thinking about stuff, which was pretty obvious. The question she should've asked is what she was thinking about. "Ah, I don't know...I feel like sprouting wings and flying away..." answered Nazuki with some ridicule to her self.
Kagerou laughed uproariously and Nazuki felt like kagerou knew something that she didn't..."You can fly, if you really want to...I'll show you later..." said kagerou between huge bites of sandwich. Mystified, Nazuki waited for her to finish.

"So, how would you go about flying?" asked Nazuki as she dragged kagerou outside. "well, just watch..." answered the squat little woman as she closed her eyes and started concentrating. Her back suddenly ripped open and then she crawled out, having used molting. There was something different though...on her back were two blurry azure projections of chakra. Nazuki gasped as it was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen.
Kgerou laughed again and pointed to the azure wings, saying:"with these things, you can fly as well as any dragonfly." And with that, the wings started whirling and vibrating and kagerou took off into the night air.

"kagerou-san! wait, come back!" shouted Nazuki as the woman flew off. She had despearately wanted to learn that technique. In fact, she had never wanted to learn anything so badly. There was a glow behind her and Kagerou crawled out from the ground. "ha, tricked you..."
"To form these wings," said kagerou with a professional air. "You must be able to bind your chakra into a specific shape and attach it to your main chakra stream. You do that by making to gashes in your skin by creating a new layer of skin and connecting it to your chakra channels before your new layer of skin forms. The rest is self-explanatory."

Nazuki started the molting process and she felt her skin hardening into a shell. With tremendous effort, Nazuki concentrated chakra onto her back and felt a sharp pain as the new layer of skin tore to accomodate the wings. And then she was in her own shell again. Flexing her back, Nazuki broke out of the shell and leapt out, surprised when her feet didn't touch the ground. She was hovering.
It seemed that the wings will let the user hover, but the user has to decide where he or she wants to go. Nazuki took a deep breath and shot up into the air, watching out for trees.

Kagerou was just finishing her nap when Nazuki burst into her room and complained about a lack of techniques for self-defence. Apparently she was attacked by three shinobi/muggers but they were unable to defeat her cuz she flew away. "what's the problem, then?"asked Kagerou as she blinked some brown stuff out of her eyes.
"The problem is, dear kagerou, that I have overused antlion technique to protect myself. And now the muggers will no doubt find a way around it and catch me when I'm trying to fly." responded nazuki.

Suddenly kagerou was all serious and her eyes grew very hard. "there is another offensive technique of our clan, but it comes with a great risk of using and could infact leave you in a near-death state. It needs great chakra control and uses quite a significant amount of chakra itself." Kagerou stopped talking and waited for her response.
Nazuki was silent for a long time. She had made the vow to become a real kunoichi with responsibilities, yet here was something that could possibly damage her health and leave her life on the line.

To take her mind off things, Nazuki took a walk outside in the forest. When she had made the commitment, she did not think that there would be so much trouble that would come with it. But nothing is perfect, and there are ups and downs with every path. Ever since she was liberated from her old life, there had been many decisions she had to make, and life goes on as usual.
The afternoon air was crisp and fresh, though there was hint of a rainstorm coming. Nazuki stooped down and picked some berries to eat, having nothing really to do with this time except think about her future.
