Lois frowned
"crushed heart? That sounds terrible. I'm sorry I missed whatever happened here."
she really felt bad for him. He looked like a kicked puppy. She put out a hand
"come on, let's dance and you can tell your friend Lois all about it. Friend Lois, not reporter Lois"
she smiled

Karen looked slightly less likely to pound him into a fine powder if he got up and danced with Lois, so Wally agreed. They went out onto the dance floor, Wally acutely aware that most of the baseball team were still snickering at Linda Park's explosion at him.
"Well...." Wally started, as a slow song started. "I guess it all started before the Skrull invasion..."
As they slow danced, Wally poured out his heart to Lois about his girl troubles, and how Linda Park made him feel. About how he got all tongue-tied around her and how guilty he felt about the dumb decisions he'd made all year.
It was a long song, apparently.

Linda was pissed off at the high and mighty tone Chris was taking.
" You don't understand a DAMN THING! I can't go on a date with Wally because I ACTUALLY LIKE HIM! Not like how those fake bimbos who dated him liked him either... I like him because he's smart, he's fun, and I use to always have such a good time when he was around. But liking him scares the hell outta me."
Linda turned to face Chris, tears streaming down her face ruining her make-up but her expression was still angry.
" Ask yourself how you would feel if that cheerleader girlfriend of yours dated every single guy on campus? And no... I won't shoot you. Not for your sake but for Karen's... she was really looking forward to prom and she deserves a good night."

Lois frowned, listening attentively to Wally. As much as she butted heads with Linda, public humiliation wasn't her style, was it. How horrible. Plus, how could she not know Wally was Kid Flash. I mean, it was so obvious to everyone, how could she not know! Lois knew she would never make such a silly mistake. She was an amazing reporter after all, and amazing reporters didn't make such mistakes. Nope.
"I don't think you should have to suffer forever for your past mistakes. I mean, lots of people date in high school. right? "

"Yeah, you're right. I just was sort of hoping prom wouldn't wind up being a disaster like every other dance in Hero High history. And maybe this isn't...I dunno...sand worms erupting from the floor and sucking everyone into a deathless void or anything, but it still feels like a disaster."
The song ended and the two of them sat back down. At least having someone to vent to made Wally feel a little better. And Lois got it; she wasn't ALL about just going ga-ga over Superboy after all.

*Chris laughed bitterly.*
My cheerleader girlfriend? She's only dumped me about 65 times. And guess what? One of those times was to date Wally. Yeah, she was the one that hurt him.
*Well, that cat is out the bag. Oh well.*
And guess what? We're still dating. Even though she ditched me tonight, I still love her and trust her? I'm sure you're thinking how stupid I am for doing that. Know why I do? Because life would be empty, lonely, and miserable without friends or loved ones! And I should know. My mother took out a restraining order on me. I can't see my family. And hurts like hell. But people like Cassie and Wally help me through it.
*Chris sighed.*
Just...come back to the dance and talk to him. Be honest with him. At least talk to him before you decide to ruin your prom and his.

Dante looked over at Wally and Lois... he was still sitting next to Danielle.
" If only Linda hadn't left... there would still be a way. There's one way to win over any girl's heart, no matter how stone cold she might act."
He noticed some of the guys from the football team seemed to be questioning him as to what the hell that could be.
" I'm speaking of course... about the ancient art of karaoke!"
All the guys seemed to be confused but Dante was confident in his resolve.

Linda sighed...
" Fine I guess I at least owe him an explanation before I completely call it a night. But I need to fix my makup... and don't you dare tell him I was crying about this."
She started to dry her tears... and went off to the girl's bathroom to fix her makeup. When she came out she looked over at Chris... poor guy, being used and abused by that cheerleader so much, let alone being disowned by his family. Linda gave Chris a kiss on the cheek.
" Thanks for coming after me."
If only Wally did that.... but it was probably best that he didn't. Linda didn't even realize that she left a kiss mark with her lipstick on Chris's cheek as she walked back towards the prom. She saw Wally with Lois... Lois was really a good friend of Linda's so she was probably just trying to comfort Wally. Linda walked over to Wally sheepishly..
"Um... sorry about before. I don't suppose that we could talk... in private."

*A grinning and lipstick covered Chris strolled by Dani and Dante. He plopped down next to Karen and leaned over.*
The Chris Powell Foundation For Getting You Some Action is a juggernaut that can't be stopped. You can stop him, you can only hope to contain him!

Dante noticed the lipstick on Chris's face... inside he was fuming, but outside he kept his cool.
" What is this 'Action' that you speak of?"
Was Chris going after other girls just because Cassie wasn't around? Of course she wasn't worried about Karen... but Chris left and came back with marks that clearly he had been close to a woman.

*Chris looked at Dante and smiled. He almost laughed....cosplaying at the prom.*
Simple. I started a dating service. I got Linda Lang a date with the captain of the football team and Wally his date. Then I saved his date. I'm an expert on love.
...
Well, for everyone else I guess. I promised not talk about Cassie around Karen though. I promised to show her a good time.

Wally excused himself from Lois, who gave him a thumbs up. He and Linda walked out of the gym over to the library. It was dark, with only the emergency lights on illuminating the shelves.
Wally sighed.
"I guess you probably want me to apologize. Well, I'm sorry. I really am. I know you don't like me, but I like you, and I thought maybe we could have a fun night. I didn't want to cause a scene like that."

With Donnie Blake towering over Linda Lang, Querl was reduced to sitting on the sidelines, taking notes.
Yeah, taking notes. At PROM. It beat sitting there looking sort of pathetic. At their table, Donnie and Bobby were laughing loudly and throwing wadded up napkins at each other. He didn't seem to be paying a lot of attention to Linda. Querl wondered if that was traditional for the top alpha male of the school environment.
"ExCUSE me."
Querl looked up, to find Lisa Snart glowering down at him.
"Yes?"
"You're BLOCKING the punch bowl. Oh. My. GOD. Can't you get out of the WAY?" Lisa turned to Kori and Mary, who giggled as he shuffled his chair over. She refilled their cups and they all started to walk away.
"See, Kori? It's JUST like I was saying. SOME people are just MEANT to be wall decorations, and SOME of us are meant to be in the spotlight."
Querl squirmed. What possible value could this sort of interaction have for teenagers? His people, the Coluans had it right - no interpersonal interaction until you were an adult.

Linda listened to Wally. Why was he apologizing? She was the one who caused a scene and completely embarrassed him. He said he liked her... did he really? Or did he just like her like how he liked all those other girls he had dated? If he liked her so much then why didn't he ask her to prom himself? In any case Linda shook her head.
" I'm the one who should apologize for creating a scene like that. The only thing you have to apologize for is not asking me to the prom yourself... When Chris asked me to go with Kid Flash I felt like I was his 'last resort' , not exactly a comforting feeling but we were friends so I decided why not then... I found out he was you.."
Linda bit her tongue a bit, the next part was really hard to say but since she was leaving the school at the end of the year she knew Wally had a right to know how she felt about him before she left.
" Before, when we hung out, when you weren't acting like a 'player'... I had a lot of fun. I really liked you... I was even going to tell you on Valentine's Day but then that whole thing happened with Kori and Aspen... then the skrulls... that really messed me up. I didn't want to even think about Jason ever again. I've been avoiding all relationships because I didn't want to get hurt. I've been avoiding you because I know your reputation and I didn't want you to hurt me.... If I didn't have feelings for you then a lil' date wouldn't have been a big deal."
Linda was nervous... really nervous. She didn't want Wally to think she was just kidding or think that she had completely written him off... Linda remembered Karen's words about how people only take off the mask for people they really care about. She also remembered Chris telling her that life was not worth living without the people you about. She was leaving at the end of the year... this might be her last chance.
" Truth is even though I've tried to stop it.... I think I've been falling in love with you. If I'm going to get hurt.... then so be it. I love you."
Linda wrapped her arms around Wally and kissed him passionately, she didn't know how long the kiss lasted but it felt right, it felt like that was where she belonged... with him. After their lips parted Linda was quiet... here came the part she dreaded, the part where she got rejected.

Wally, still a little in shock from Linda's confession, looked at her as their lips parted. She was looking back at him, expectantly, waiting for something...
So Wally did the only thing that made sense. He held the back of her head and kissed her on the lips again. For the first time ever, Wally wished one of his powers was the ability to make something go slower...it wouldn't bother him if this kiss lasted forever.
