X Midnight Falcon X Whyis French Horn always overlooked? We're the awesomeist! ♭ⓡⓞⓚⓔⓝ♭ⓐⓡⓡⓘⓔⓡ sαys "Those dots and dashes in the ... All my BDs tell me it's because we're so perfect, they don't need us to play anymore. Once, I told my BD about a part that we had the melody in, and he made every section play their note... but us. When I brought it up, he sighed and picked up the tuner and made us play for barely a 32nd note. He just said, "Just as I figured, PERFECT." :) ...aren't Morse Code." -John Brewington, VA Tidewater District Festival Judge

the_first_Argetlam candy!x0x0 the_first_Argetlam i want a triple horn. anyone willing to buy me one? lol lol its not worth it they sound like baritones. The sound is just way to dark for my taste. Although personally I like classic bright chicago sound. Not much for the east coast and their conn 8D's I love the way they sound. I think they sound awesome! lol a lot of people do, I'm more for the brighter sound. Berlin phil! My favorite horn section! They have gorgeous full bright sounds, but it still has warmth to it so it doesn't sound like a trombone most of them play on Alexander 103s. Then there's new york phil and Cleveland who play on those big nickel CONN 8D'S. such a huge contrast in sound. Although I think that a good player can sound however they want to on any instrument, the specific types just makes it easier.

Ohhh mygoodness, I love playing the french horn so much! The sound is beautiful and we're almost always favorited by the band director! ;D I haven't started playing the melophone yet but I will on the 12th when marching season starts. I've been playing for three years and own an awesome silver horn with a bell that screws on and off! Its name is Galileo. Am I the only one that names my insrtuments? XD

Gawd our horn section is small. I'm 2nd chair out of 4. My friend, the section leader, also has trouble with the bottom two because they really don't know how to play mellophone. It's basically only me and her playing.
But it's still better than last year. It was only my friend and me...and I was on trumpet for marching season so....

At first, when I started playing the french horn it was kind of hard to get the hang of, but as I had more lessons from my french horn teacher, it became a whole lot easier. Also, I'm sad to say that I was the only french horn player in my high school band. No one wanted to take it up because they thought it was hard v.v

We have a whopping total of three French Horns in our section now, and all of us are brand new - two from trumpet, and one from flute.

So, I'm a sax/oboe player, and I wanna learn mello for this thing some friends of mine are doing, and to open up the possibility for drum corps in the future. Any tips? 'Cause I really suck right now. XD I can play about an octave up from a low C.

buzz a lot. Start by the notes you can hit and slowly slur a little higher. Don't try and push the high notes they will come. If you can buzz the notes you can play them on the mellophone then.
