Well, as per the balancing, I have to imput my two cents.

I actually disagree with what they've done. The use of a unit cap I believe was good enough to be able to limit the use of certain units or to have them make certain unit combinations effectively. If in the actual game someone is able to make an army consiting entirely of Terminators, and have nothing else, then that is their right to do so. I mean, there are plenty of ways to counter that. While powerful, they're very slow moving, and so some good artillery can effectively whipe out however many squads you can get. I believe it was only three or four. Making them more powerful does not do it for me.

Also, does anyone else think that the quality of the Dawn of War games is dropping ever so slightly with every release? Dark Crusade just seems to cookie cutter and as if they were trying to open it up more to a wider audience, which is silly. I also don't like that there is no symbalance of story whatsoever in it, and don't tell me that those little things after each race dies counts as a story!

EDIT: Page 100 FTW!

I like the freedom of the campaign, story aside. The story is good enough to keep it interesting, but you can only have great stories in single-ending campaigns.

Woot, I found my Winter Assualt CD key!

The main reason Terminators are capped is because they are an extremely powerful unit that can deep strike, and the Tau have ZERO base defense. I gather that the devs shared my distaste for games where you have to constantly defend against Deep Striking Termis/Oblits inside of your base. And if a Tau player had his army halfway across the map, it's game over, because Tau don't have turrets or mines or anything else to slow down the Termis except for thier listening posts.

One doesn't simply "have the right" to do anything in a game, simply because you bought it. Game balance takes precedence, especially on a game like this where people are going to play online ALOT. That said, I'll admit that as a Tau player, I haven't come up against any Space Marine players yet, So I can niether confirm nor deny either of our opinions on Terminators.

Well, I wasn't speaking of Dark Crusade, but rather the Warhammer 40K tabletop game, where someone can, in fact, make an army entirely of terminators.

So, where are you getting your two troop choices, again? wink

ninja Non-elite Terminators and non-elite Assault Terminators? It's more of to illustrate a point, but I think you got that.

Apologies then, I had assumed that because this was a thread about Dark Crusade, you'd be speaking about it, and missed the comparision to the tabletop. Even so, there are game balance issues on the tabletop as well. They are chiefly handled, as has been pointed out, by the FOC. However, the FOC is specific, while the unit cap in DC is not, and hard caps on units have to be instituted instead.

THATS IT! Necrons are ******** overpowered! I was playing on some campaign map, when like this horde of necron warriors and wraiths plus the lord comes in. I have several armor units, and 10 squads of fire warriors, guess what happens? They kill have of my guys even though I have the supperior firepower, range, and man power, I killed most of the wraiths before they even got close, yet half my guys were dead, and then they mass ressied! my entire army just got ********, oh, and get this, they somehow ressied after I killed the lord, isnt that ********? So while im trying to deal with these ******** assholes, who it seems after I kill one it just gets back up EVERYTIME, the other computer decides to go straight for my base!
I started that one over before I got annihilated

something tells me it doesnt take much skill to level out a few basic infantry units with a whole ******** fleet of ranged specialists, to tell you the truth, it seemed it was going my way for the whole thing, only they just wouldnt die...

1: Watch the language.

2: Tau do not tend to do that well against the Necrons, in my experience. Then again, I may just not be that good with them (which I'm not.) The Imperial Guard on the other hand, don't do too shabby.

Taking out cron's requires some serious fire power and prefferably a vehicle with a knock back effect like the skyray or a basilisk so that they cant use their weapons and too keep them from tying you up in melee. I try to stay away from them in campaign and ive only fought them a couple times with space marines and barely made it everytime, I would have not made it where it not for my Hellfire dreadnought and Thule's Daemonhammer o.o.

They only way I can really beat them is to build craploads and craploads of tactical marines and cram them full of rocket launchers and plasma guns and just throw them at them.
