"Don't mess with Texas" is technically a campaign against littering. So long as I don't throw trash on him, I'm golden.
xp Ah, it would take way too long to totally explain America's early relationship with TN... In a nutshell, America refused to protect TN from Indian raids both before and after he became an actual U.S. territory and the resentment built up so much TN nearly gave himself to Spain instead of America. There was also huge drama over America negotiating with Spain and letting the Mississippi River get closed (which was as important to TN and KY as Boston Harbor to MA) <--This drama was so bad that when America called for TN's former governor, William Blount, to be arrested for an alleged conspiracy, TN essentially gave him a polite middle finger and refused to aid the Sergent-at-Arms of the U.S. Senate take Blount despite the warrant.
The wiki articles don't nearly do the issues justice, but you can read these if you'd like:
Over view of the war with Cherokee and Creek,
This talks about the Blount Conspiracy and Mississippi River a little but you might want to skip to the last 2-3 pages of the chapter to find TN's reaction to the arrestIf you skim down to the Miro Conspiracy on the Chickamauga Wars article, it talks about how TN (Franklin at the time) nearly went to Spain for the protection America wouldn't give. There was also a very real fear during the Aaron Burrs Conspiracy that TN's anger at America could lead him (and KY) to separate from America and form a new nation with the Louisiana territory after its purchase. (although no one knows 100% what Burr was doing, it's interesting that things were bad enough for people to speculate on TN leaving into the 1800's.)
Kind of a sad/funny story about TN, America and the Indian raids is that even though America blamed the Southwest Territory (TN) for his troubles, he later asked/ordered TN to go fight to protect the Northwest Territory from similar raids even though he wouldn't protect TN...
sweatdrop I don't know if I can find that online, but it's in a few of the books I'm reading.
Anyway, America started being a lot nicer to TN after the War of 1812 when he saw TN was useful and that Andrew Jackson was a bamf. Their relationship improved a lot, but there are still a few incidents where TN was in trouble and America was like "I'm going to do the opposite of helpful!" (Although TN doesn't normally have problems and there are circumstances which justify him being ignored, but it just seems like whenever there's a really big issue for TN requiring his attention America usually drops the ball.)
Even so, TN is such a "mama's" boy that he's always one of the first ones to run to America's defense and justify/believe in America's actions. One of the main reasons TN didn't join Spain as a child essentially came down to the fact that Spain just wasn't his "mama" and he didn't want to be with someone so foreign and nothing like America.
(... I tried so hard not to rant about history, but it looks like I did that anyway...)
