Fenrir SongMoon Wouldn't that sort of be like a dynamic system? Where there aren't any spell lists, just a general idea of what you can and can't do at a certain level? I thought that was the original idea. Maybe these new spell lists'll be something like D&D. Where you can pick and choose spells at their respective levels (like at a certain rank you get so many level 0 spells, level 1 spells, etc.)

Well, I don't really have a preference, so long as we get something to work with in the near future. *Nod*
Hmmm... I've come to a predicament. I have a character concept, but i'm not sure what class I wanna make him. I'd like him to be a Martial Artist... but i'd also like him to be a Mage. I know the middle ground is Monk, but i'm not sure I want to sacrifice being good in one or the other....

I need to make an apology.
I didn't know she didn't want spell lists. ^_^;;; I like the idea of not having any, actually...
...the funny thing is, I spoke with her earlier (before I made that announcement) about the spells- and she didn't say anything. Seems I had to say after the fact, "Oh, you didn't want spells?"
Though I guess me just saying I was playing "spell guy" wasn't enough.
*Sigh* u_u
Forget everything I said about spells.
*Goes to delete that announcement... and set something on fire/blow something up.*

Stryphe *Sigh* u_u Forget everything I said about spells. *Goes to delete that announcement... and set something on fire/blow something up.* sweatdrop Eh, it happens. That said, it might be nice to have a list of spells that have been cast in the threads...just to give people ideas. For reference purposes, like the old spell lists are.

All we really need is a power-guide...
What a mage of this skill level would be able to do as compared to one like that.

As does Jello's power level idea. This is good, real discourse. I'm sooo proud. *huggles Owle, Stryphe, and Jello*

okay I hope you don't mind if I put my two cents in.... sweatdrop
What seems to make sense is if you have a formula ie training center than you would have set spells in general for those trained to choose from. At the same time for those who aren't specially trained, they would have to learn on their own and might manipulate them differently and the spells might not work the same way they would for a 'trained' spellcaster. Pardon the newb for butting in. redface

VTMarik *huggles Owle, Stryphe, and Jello* xp *Huggles back?* Yes, some sort of scale would be nice, for a guideline. Otherwise, relying on good judgement of ones skill is a pretty good way to do it. If someone's not playing inside their characters abilities, it's not hard to tell. sweatdrop

Pardon the newb for butting in. redface That's a good point...but I think it would depend on your teacher, or the philosophy of the school/temple in general. There would be certain, set, simple spells that everyone would learn, but the teachers could encourage innovation after that. Kind of like, when you're learning how to write, you learn basic grammar and stuff...maybe you even memorize certain phrases, certain techniques, etc...but after that, you're basically on your own in how you put your words together. Of course, once in a while someone might come up with something really cool and teach it to a lot of other people...and it might end up getting to be the kind of thing that everyone learns... Um...trying to think of a good analogy...hmm...like, when you first learn to build a clock, you follow the blueprints exactly. Once you get a little better at it, though, you start wanting to make your clocks a little different, a little prettier, maybe even more efficient. So you experiment, and come up with your own unique kind of clock and way of making it. Edit: Am I making sense? And yes, as Marik says, we like input. 3nodding

Aye...
As always, I'm a firm advocate of: "If you believe your character should be able to do that, then who are we to argue? ...though we CAN tell you if it seems fair or not."
So... yeah. 3nodding
