Ranger Kate Zak was not thinking. thinking is never part of the process of getting really mad and hitting someone for taunting a lady.subconscious knowledge gleaned from some old wives tale might have been telling him that to undo a sorcery it was necessary to kill the caster but this was not so mutch a thought, as background noise to blind rage. Zak aimed for boothman's throat with his fingers curled into what someone with an education in these things that involved words instead of brawls would have called a tiger's paw. (occ: look ma! no thumbs) ((Your ooc made me spit orange juice at my monitor. XD!!!)) The boothman cried out in fear, leaping back like a thief that wants to live. "Guards! Guards!" The fellow screamed. "Assault! Thievery!" It wasn't long before two hefty boatsmen came to grab at Zak and thrust him backwards into the sand. A tall, doglike creature watched him with a snarl in his throat, its long chained leash attached to the wrist of one of the boatsmen. The other watched Tamlin with a sour eye. Boothman wrenched at his own throat, as if Zak had somehow managed to tear it off. "These two are trying to kill me! And they gambled without a license." The slightly smaller of the two boatsmen- the one with the doglike creature that was still growling at Zak, fixed an eye on the two. "Well? What've ya say? Were ya gamblin without a license?"

Sizzla Irina headed down to the boardwalk, noticing the two games that several from her caravan were playing. She laughed as she watched fingers disappear, and Kal and Eerie nosed their way through the crowd to get closer to the scene. Eerie seemed appalled, eyes widening as he heard the shouts of those with missing digits, jaw dropped open. Kal, on the other hand, was rolling with laughter, almost as if she knew it was some sort of illusion. She looked over to her brother, and poked him in the side, in an attempt to coax him into laughing. Sadly, it didn't work.
Turning their attention to the man on the blanket after a few good chuckles, the trio walked up and listened as Anezka answered her riddle. "Ah! You've listened! I am looking for some kind of Pest, this is true," she nodded, wondering how this man knew of the banya fortune.
"Excuse me sir, but how do you know about my banya? If that is in fact the answer to the riddle..." Blanketman blinked up at the woman. Then, his eyes went almost completely blank as all color rolled back into his head. He was left with white bits of almond shaped horror that twitched and righted themselves when they returned from whatever realm they'd visited. "I don't know anything, actually. I'm only a conduit. But I suspect you'll be needing that Pest sooner. Rather than later. You're in quite a lot of pain. In fact, you're about to go into labor." A dark look crossed his face, and a prickle of shadows danced across his eyes. He blinked again. "Just thought you should know."

The slightly smaller of the two boatsmen- the one with the doglike creature that was still growling at Zak, fixed an eye on the two. "Well? What've ya say? Were ya gamblin without a license?" Tamlin was just as surprised as the boothman when Zak crashed upon him, it snapped her to her senses and she was able to gain back more logical control of her actions, she was still extremely angry though she realized the precarious situation they were in with the apparent assault. she just wanted her finger back, not more trouble.
she brushed off her skirts and moved to address the guards the boothman had called. her eyes still steely with anger, but it was now a composed smolder.
"We were certainly not trying to kill him, nor were we stealing, this man here was the only one here doing any stealing. We were told that this was a free game in which there was a prize, we had no plans to gamble because we did not purchase a license. my friend here merely acted in anger when our fingers were taken as a default on a bid we were not even aware of."
she stopped and decided to let them take it at face value.

"Ifin I was, I lost" said Zak holing up a thumbless hand, "and he's done the same to her" these men were fishers they would know the value of a digit if anyone did. Why is "do you have a license for this" the second question being asked? said the back of his head while rage filled most of the rest of it. that b*****d. I'll get him. Zak thought.

The boatsmen seemed to be capable of little else but intimidating stares and growls, and it took them several moments to process all the information that Tamlin and Zac were thrusting at them. One seemed to be a little quicker, and answered at Zac,
"It's not like they stay gone, lad. Extremist actions aren't favored on Nereid, especially violent sorts that may or may not be breaking the law." He turned to the thieving boothman, and asked, "Is this true? Had they gotten to the paid part of the game yet?"
A glimmer crossed the boothman's eyes. It was not a glimmer of honesty.
"I've twenty couplets in my coffers that says they had, honor to honors." He nodded his head officiously, and the boatsmen with the doglike guard sighed.
"Right then. More for the Cadress to sort out." With that, he turned to the two. "You are both under arrest under the penal code of Nereid Isle, sanctuary 5-G sublaw three. You are given the right to refusal of incrimination, and are innocent until further evidence can be obtained. The Cadress will need you to be detained in arrest holding until that time."
The response jerked the dog even more alive, and it lunged forward as if to take a clean bite out of Zac's leg. The boatsman pulled it back at the last moment, though, inciting a good yipe at the sudden chain-strangle. While he gave commands to the dog, the larger boatsman stepped up to Tamlin.
"Present your arms, gypsy. It'll all be sorted out soon enough."

Caroline watches as Ro winds her way back to the wagons. She wonders what her silent daughter's up to. She shrugs and pockets her new couplets and nods cordially to the gamesmaster. She begins to wind her way up to the city proper, thinking to see what she might find there.

"Present your arms, gypsy. It'll all be sorted out soon enough." Tamlin certainly did not like this situation. she was calmed a bit to hear that the disappearance of her finger was not permanent.
she held her arms firmly at her side and addressed the guard again
"i certainly would hope so, but i also think this could be sorted out a bit faster if that man" she nodded at the boothman " would be more honest. i know DeArca gave him money for a game, but i only have 5 couplets to my name, i couldnt even afford the price he asked to begin with. however if he refuses to be honest go ask any of those we came with, and they will attest for us. also, id like to know exactly what we are being suspected for before i just let myself be taken and none of that technical jargon, none of us can understand what it means." she paused to give the guard an unkind look, but her polite tone never dropped.
"as i said before, we played a free game, if this is gambling then that is one charge ill agree too, however, i did not steal from or attempt to kill or hurt anyone. Zak only acted out of what he took as self defense, what can you expect when you start losing pieces of your body."

Zak's twin uncles Zeb and Jeb were the Town lawyers back home. family joke was that they had been born to it because they never agreed on practically any subject but one: when in custody, shut up.
the Gypsey was obviously not aware of this, he attempted to signal her by stepping on her foot firmly but not fast. shut up, he mouthed. shut up shut up
He did look daggers at the dog thing growling at him. I hate this town he thought. on the upside, I suppose it will be easy to get a lawyer, everyone knowing the law like they do.

He was standing odd to the side of the boardwalk in the shade, alone and quiet. His eyes shifted back and forth scanning through the people as they moved by. The first sign of motion he showed was a small nod of his head as he found he found what he was looking for.
He strode over with a purposeful gait. As he moved small bells attached to his clothes made small jingling noises as the hit up against a myriad of of small vials attached to his person in just about every attachable place, some hung from his neck and wrists, while others seemed to come from elbows and forearms. Inside the vials were small bits of putrid looking flesh, not at all appetizing. all these small accoutrements seemed quite bright and apparent against his patched and dark clothing which hung loosely off of him except where it was belted on across his waist and diagonally over his chest, from these belts knives of various sizes were strapped on. he struck a very odd picture as he moved quickly through the crowd towards his goal.
"Lorelei, I need you to follow me" he then reached out and took her hand, firmly, but not without delicacy. and then he started moving, directing her up the boardwalk towards the city.

Ki had taken the whole trip with a grain of salt, and had managed to keep to herself mostly.. but that really was how she prefered things. When the liscences had been offered she'd looked into her wallet and found but 10 couplets. At the time she'd felt rather ashamed that she wasn't able to buy anything, but now as she walked around watching the other memebers of the caravan buying and selling, trying to make sense of thier fortuenes... she found herself glad that she hadn't any money... and glad that she didn't have a fourtune spouting animal. It allowed her to keep her distance from these people. Not that she didn't like them... just that she was actually quite a bit more like her son, the mole boy, than any of there beautiful gypsies.
So she walked between the booths, looking, but never touching, Van'Dien blanced on one hip.

"Ehm, uh, no...thank you." Anezka accepted the couplets and then slowly backed away from the strange man. She shot a look at her mother and gestured with her head, wanting to leave the area before things became much stranger. She looked over at Irina and gave her an unsure smile, before grabbing onto Lesh's hand and heading off after Caroline.

Lorelei blinked, turning her head between the strange man - who knew her name? - and Leax. "Stop- let go- Who are you?" She tried to pull away, though it pained the sores on her hand. "Tell me your name!"
She held tight to Vanna, afraid to let the girl go, but equally scared to take her along with her and the strange man, should it come to that. She really wished that she could see, that she could remove the blindfold.
"Momma!" Vanna cried, glaring over at the strange man. "Let go of Momma!"

" I am Warren Snell. Lorelei, it is imperative that you follow me now"

Valelldia X-Men Lover Oqaia Oqaia X-Men Lover DeArca smiled and put two fingers down. "Evens" He said. "Evens tis. Here's your dice..." He held his fingers with the two cubes cupped inside between them and his palm, then shook his hand a twist and let the cubes fly along the table, where they settled near DeArca's fingers. "OOoooh, Odds. Boddikens, you gypsies is unlucky plumsuckers." DeArca's left index finger vanished, leaving no hole or remnant, nor a feeling there where the finger used to be. "Play again?" DeArca's eyes widened in fear as he saw his finger gone. "Nnn....Double or Nothing. Evens again...." he begged, wanting it back ((It's not letting me do 'action, dice' so I rolled two real dice- and lucky you, evens it was ^_^)) "Lucky ducky! Here's 100, then." He forked over the couplets. "Want to play again? Winner gets 200, PLUS the digit back." DeArca's index finger was still gone. "Nnn" He frowned, a little nervous to do so. But wait, he didn't say he'd take away another finger so this time, he was safe to try and earn his finger back. "Evens again sir" he said, praying to everything he could think of. Money wasn't important...just his finger.
