Hello, everyone! Nice to meet you all.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 26, 2008 5:14 am

Salutations all! I'm Katherine, and I am very pleased to make all of your acquaintances (at some point eventually =P). I recently discovered that a good deal of my interests from the moral to the fashionable were all gathered under a single classifier, that of Steampunk- and while I may not myself fit perfectly into that box (I am a religion major with a focus in Asian studies, currently learning Mandarin in Taiwan), I certainly am going crazy with ideas of fashions to make for myself in that theme =) Just wait until I can find a sewing machine I tell you! And return to the states so I can buy some decent leather... And thrift shop... and a bloody decent pair of first world war-ish goggles... -_-''

Anyway, nice to be here, I hope not to be too much of a nuisance! xd

Hiya everyone!

I'm Berzerker_prime, but please call me Berz for short. I'm just getting into Steampunk, mainly as a genre of costuming which has been a hobby of mine for a very long time now. I was dragged into it by a group of friends who are forming an airship crew called HMA Badger (we're located in southern Wisconsin). It's part of a much more ambitious project which is coming to be known as Steam Century, endeavoring to create an entire alternate history and story line for Steampunk (we're excited).

I look forward to chatting with you all!

Berz.

Good day to you! I am Amarante Backahasten, and you may call me Ama.

I'm an artist, and a fencer. I have a grand fascination with tinkering, but I find I need to work on my skills.

Let's see...I boast a great infatuation with the fashion, style, and mentality. I've been raised in a very Victorian friendly household, which in turn is also tech and history obsessed. It's a lovely little corner to fall into.

Oh my. I'm incredibly delighted to stumble upon this guild! Embarrassingly enough, I only just found out about steampunk not too long ago, though I've had a thorough obsession with it for years (I didn't know what it was called). Lo and behold I find a vast number of interesting people divulge into this culture.

Well, call me Colette if you must. Very nice to meet you all!

Greetings, all.

I'm Asia, but usually go by Skogul on the internet.

I found this guild through another steampunk forum, not surprisingly, and decided, "Well, what the hell? Maybe this will give me a reason to use that gaia account that's coated in a thick layer of dust!"... and here I am!

I've liked steampunk since I can remember, but didn't know what it was until I was around 12-14. Since then, I've gotten more and more into it, especially as I get older and more interested into the sociopolitical aspects of the genre's basis in Victorian and Edwardian cultures in addition to the aesthetics. I actually have a world (from which most of my characters, roleplay or otherwise come from or eventually end up) that I've been fleshing out for almost a decade that's largely steampunk, but more fantasy than reality as it's not even based on Earth. It's nowhere near presentable, though.

Oh, right... I'm an illustrator and you can see my work at skogul dot net and deviantART.

Ainsly

Hullo to all my new mates! I'm Ainsly, as you can see, and even though that isn't my real name, it's what I'd prefer to go by here.

I always been attracted to steam punk elements without really realizing it, clockwork, airships, retro-futurism. I was thrilled to discover there was a whole sub-culture related to this and upon finding it, it seems like the creative bug in me has been sparked to new levels.

Hey there! I got to know about steampunk only recently and that was thanks to the fashion thread here on Gaia biggrin And once I saw it I got to love it because it matches what I have loved for many years: history and specially the 19th century, together with the technical and sci-fi. I've always loved books by Verne and also things looking antiquicated/old stylish, and also I've been for 2 years identifying myself as a goth (considering music, aesthetic and specially the romantic aspects of dressing), of which various elements can be matched and mixed with steampunk too, I think. I hope I can get to educate myself more because right now I'm really enthusiasted of the style =) Though I don't own any things that would be considered steampunk sad Maybe some of my romantic goth stuff could count, anyways I'm hoping to find some more inspiration yet smile

Jeni Huntington

PostPosted: Thu Mar 13, 2008 11:40 am

Hello, My name is Jeni. I have been a fan of science fiction literature since my grade school days. I was recently introduced to Steampunk as a fashion sense and have taken to it rather quickly. I look forward to meeting you all and having some intelligent conversation.
PostPosted: Sat Mar 15, 2008 10:07 am

Hi and thank you for having me. I've been interested in Victoriana for quite a long time and I've been interested in science for as long as I can remember. I've always loved H.G. Wells and Jules Vern; I thought The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen rocked. But it wasn't until about 1.5 years ago that I found out about the SteamPunk fusion genre. It quickly became one of my all time favorite genres.

I don't really participate in the SteamPunk fashion end of things, though I do have a sewing machine and I think before long I'll start attempting to make a few outfits. I have a BS in biology and my house is already filled with old lab equipment, I might try and Steam it up a bit, if I ever get the time.

Anyway, great guild, thanks again for making it!

Nice to meet you, I'm Pedrolino. I'm very interested in steam punk and the style. I also just like to learn about things as much as possible. So I'm here to enjoy and learn. ^_^

Allo, I'm Blue (or Lutra, or Azul, or simply Hey You). I've not known about steampunk for very long, perhaps a week, but I love the style and theology to it.

I do a lot with theatre (set construction/design) and am a carpenter (almost). Feel free to ask me anything.

...I think I'll stop now before I ramble.

Ranmoth

PostPosted: Sun Mar 23, 2008 5:15 pm

Salud! My usual moniker is Ranmoth, though you'll also sometimes hear me call myself Charles Parrish, for reasons most likely having to do with multiple-personality disorder. My interest in steampunk is rather nascent at the moment, though I shall say it sounds like an interesting subculture. And I like machines.

Speaking of which, I also have a considerable interest in what I like to call "real-world" science, as distinct from luminiferous aether and clockwork rayguns, and I rarely miss an opportunity to enlighten my compatriots as to its merits; herein, such endeavors may be seen in the Intellectual Pursuits subforum.

Here's to future merriment!

'Lo all, I be Hail.

I've been into Steampunk for a number of months now, due it's combination of mad machines, fantastic settings, and the general craziness of it all. My main interest is that of Airships, exploration, swashbuckling, piracy, and other romantic themes.

I'm geared (The pun, it burns! gonk ) more towards fantasy-based settings, though I'm a fan of certain Alternate History themes, such as those in Crimson Skies and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. While they're not steampunk, they have an undeniable air of Retro-Futurism about them.
