Well put it like this. I dont have the EIF book, and I was trying to draw the rules from my mind, which isnt exactly a safe place

So, I've been kicking around the net trying to find out what races are acceptable to play with. I've found the usual empire and chaos and undead etc, but I'm trying to find out what the options with shadow warriors are. I'm a wood elf player usually so thats what I'm interested in fielding. Any info is greatly appreciated, especially if you can supply a link to the online rules that doesn't require me jumping through about ten whoops. Thanks guys!

This is partially a Mordheim question, and partially a WHFB question, but mostly a modelling question. I don't play FB and I'm planning a Lizardman Warband (among other things), but I need to know - what is this weapon:
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
...and the weapon wielded by the third skink from the left:
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Are they the same? Is it a Stone Axe (counts as a club), Axe, or Sword? Can it count as any as long as I'm consistent within my band?

EDIT: Also, I'm confused about pricing here. Javelins are better than Throwing Knives (longer range, can be used in close combat, otherwise identical) but cost considerably less? Is this simply a function to encourage me to take traditional lizardman weapons?

Same with Clubs(3), Axes(5), and Swords(10!)? They all have their unique benefits, but pricing seems way out of whack...

Responding to my own post for no particular reason.

The catalog confirms those weapons as "swords" so we're all good. Also, I'm beginning to see the real difference between the other weapon types.

New questions though: in what instances is a Buckler superior to a Shield?

Also, are helmets worth it, really?

EDIT: Let's cut to the chase... How's this look?

TOTAL 495, 5gc remaining, Warband Rating 92

Skink Priest
Axe, Shortbow, Javelin, Shield
85gc, 20xp

Saurus Totem Warrior
Axe, Sword, Shield
80gc, 11xp

Skink Great Crest
Axe, Javelin, Shield
50gc, 8xp

Skink Great Crest
Axe, Shield, Blowgun
65gc, 8xp

Saurus Braves (2)
Spear, Shield
55gc each, 0xp

Skink Braves (3)
Javelin, Shield
35gc each, 0xp

To answer all your weapon and gear questions, please read the Mordheim living rules book, that clarifies the whole deal.

As for the warband, not bad, it has a good balance of ranged and non-ranged weapons, you just need to be careful with the Skinks, they aint that tough.

Actually, it generated the questions. I've got the LRB and Cities of Gold sitting open right now and I can't figure out why Javelins cost less than Throwing Knives, unless it is strictly to encourage me to purchase Lizardman-themed weapons. I'm not arguing, it's just a little strange.

Same with Swords, Axes, and Hammer/Mace/Club/StoneAxe. They're the same except for Parry, save modifier, and stun chance, respectively, but the cost disparity is huge. I just wonder what that's about, is all.

I still can't decide on the shield issue, though. Skinks have T3 and standard 6+ save. Shields make that a 5+ in all instances. Bucklers let them Parry. They both cost the same, and realistically, I'd like to keep my Skinks of out close combat as much as possible, so a Shield is theoretically superior right?

Goodgood, that's what I was looking for. If my experience in Blood Bowl has taught me nothing, it's that Lizardmen are a black/white army. No middle ground here, but I can deal with that. biggrin

I just realized it's worthless to give my Saurus' spears. If they have spears and charge, they strike first. If they have spears and are charged, they go in initiative order (which is a funny way of saying "last"). I should just give them all swords for the same points and let them parry.

Lastly, a rules question. Make sure I understand this correctly:

My Saurus Totem Warrior has two melee weapons (axe and sword, in this example) and a shield. Against ranged attacks, he gets a 4+ save (scaly skin + shield) but in close combat, he has to choose between:
  • 2 attacks (1 axe, 1 sword) and a 5+ save (scaly skin).
  • 1 attack (either or) and a 4+ save (scaly skin + shield).

Can he pick on the fly? Each combat? Each round of combat?

Finally, if he chooses the second option and attacks with his axe, can he still parry with the sword? (I would assume not, but the rules aren't really clear on how this works.)

Yay for forums! My understanding and assumptions were correct (including, by extrapolation, that the Saurus may only parry if he attacks with the sword).

What do you guys think about making Soul Calibur characters for Mordheim.

Of course it would take a bit of time to convert the models and what not, but do you think its a good idea?

Just think you too can take controll of your very own Seigfried Schtauffen or even better... YOSHIMITSU!

Been doodling with some warband concepts, maybe convince my brother and cohorts into playing a mini campaign of sorts. Anyway, all warbands listed here are based on official GW lists, none of the experimental stuff found on Mordheimer. I've also got plenty of parts for a possessed warband, maybe I'll try my hand at one of those as well.

I'm looking to get into this game, and build a warband out of Warmachine minis, since the Mordheim range is sorely lacking, but I was wondering what folks thought about blackpowder weapons in general? I was planning on having a small (5-8 man) warband of Reiklanders with all Blackpowder weapons; Captain with a brace of Dueling Pistols, lots of Marksmen with either Handguns or Blunderbusses. Are they effective, or will I be looking at a bunch of greasy stains on the play mat in the first couple games?
