Skye giggled and grabbed the side of the tray closest to her, to help her new friend to carry it without tipping it.
"Not Mommy," she told Kara, her wings fluttering rapidly. "But like Mommy!"

Ulrich shrugged. "She's no different than Elnara, how hypocritical would he be if he accepted his mother but not her? But I don't even think they'll meet up ... once he knows Serenity's coming, he'll disappear for a few hours so Daeron can get his visit in and then come and take him away again."
He shrugged. "Bigot and bugger, but Daeron's his kid, not mine, so what can I do about it?"
Daeron grinned. "Ada takes me here to see Nako once every year, because Ninako made him promise to. But I like visiting everyone else here, too."
His smile faded slightly, and his expression grew wistful. "But I wish I could see Nako more ... or see Nara-thel again."
Ulani laughed sheepishly and nodded to Kara. "Yes, if you don't mind," she murmured. "I have to admit, I hadn't foreseen carrying a young one along with a tray ..."
She looked at the child thoughtfully. "So this is Skye," she murmured quietly. "One of Elnara's ..." She had to admit, she was amused by the child's comments.

Kara smiled carefully taking the tray from Ulani, she could handle the tray after all. It wasn't any different than serving the people back home, in fact it was very much like home."
As she took the tray over to the table Kara spoke, "Yes, that's Skye."

Donovan shrugged, it was a bit indiffinent to that since it shouldn't have happened in the first place, though he could understand Daeron's view on things.
"Maybe you will," he commented before turning back to Ulrich with a raised brow, "The funny thing is though, while I hate retorical questions of philosophy, it would be a philosopher that would ask if he isn't already being hypocritical? How can he hate his mother without hating a part of himself? He can claim Serenity isn't elf for all it's worth a..." he paused, "nothing at all," he amended, "If she isn't elf, what does that make him? After all, he gets half of what he physically is, from her."
He wondered genetically why out of all these children Serenity had, only Elnara turned out to have that ability.
"While I can't figure out why only Elnara is a shapeshifter, assuming it's just a stroke of luck that she ended up a shifter, who's to say that one of them might have not had that luck instead? Granted, genetics... err.. the study of what is physically inheirted, was never my strong point in school."

Skye let go of the tray as Kara took it from Ulani and smiled up at her new friend. "Skye good," she nodded cheerfully. "Skye help!" She giggled, and her wings fluttered.
But now she was curious, and she put one hand on Ulani's head.
"You?" she asked, wondering her name.

Ulani looked to Kara uneasily, a little confused. "Me?" she asked, raising one eyebrow. "What does she mean?"
Ulrich raised his hands defensively. "Don't look at me!" he exclaimed. "I can make no claim to know how Ruel's mind works. But as for your second question ..."
He lowered his hands and folded his arms across his chest.
"I don't know how it is in your land," he said slowly, "but here ... it's kind of complicated. Large families are especially confusing ... Every child is born with two magical gifts, usually one from each parent," he explained. "The stronger of the two gifts they are born with is the one they receive from the parent of their sex. Elnara ..."
He paused.
"Elnara's just an odd case, where she got both of her father's gifts - healing and firecasting - and at equal strength ... both strong. Who knows? Perhaps since she had both of them so strongly from her father, she needed something equally as strong from her mother to balance it out."
He shrugged. "And then, as the number of children grows in a family, the gifts they are born with weaken ... so of course Elnara, being the eldest, has the most magical strength. Perhaps that has something to do with it."

Kara set the food down on the table, before turning to Ulani, "Skye wants to know your name, it's easier for her to understand if she's close to the person saying it, seeing as... actually Skye can't hear. She wouldn't notice you at all if you talked behind her back."
Which normally would lead one to believe that Skye was reading lips, only her tone sounded too good to just be reading lips.

Donovan mused on that, it actually was easier to remember than genetics, but he nodded slowly at what Ulrich said.
"It sounds like a sound theory," Donovan replied, "Back home it's far more confusing, quite unfortunately. We don't often get that certainty of the eldest being the strongest, but most races aren't born with a specific gift like that..." Donovan wrinkled his nose a bit, "Let's not get into it, I'll only confuse myself, like I said, genetics are not my strong point."

Skye took Ulani's chin in her hand impatiently and turned her head to face her so that she could read her lips. Then she pointed up at her again and repeated, "You?"
Her eyes turned to Ulani's mouth to watch carefully for the reply, and one hand went to Ulani's throat.

Ulani laughed softly, more than amused by Skye's actions - though inwardly she felt a pang of pity upon hearing that the child was deaf.
"Ulani," she said, then repeated it slowly. "U ... la ... ni."
Ulrich shrugged and grinned good-naturedly. "Yes, well, there are bound to be differences between our worlds. After all, I'm sure in your world things don't fall up."
While the others were talking, Daeron snuck up beside Kara and grabbed a sandwich off the tray, then slunk back to the couch and started eating.

Kara smiled fondly watching the two interact as she turned back to make sure everything was in order. She didn't really take a close look at the tray earlier, so if anything went missing she wouldn't have noticed anyhow.
Once done fussing as she went back to Donovan to pry Miyu from his coat.

Donovan smirked, "One would hope not, I like everything to work as is, though one never knows what you'll find."
Which was something he learnt the hard way a long time ago, he lifted his up coat for Kara, so she could grab Miyu.

After stalking outside angrily, Ruel had wandered around aimlessly for a long time. Venting off anger, trying to get Ulrich's words out of his head ...
By the time he made it back inside, it was past dark. Daeron was already in bed, asleep, and Ulani was nowhere in sight ... nor were the tiny kids who had popped out of the bag.
He shrugged. Maybe they were in another room, maybe they were sitting with someone and were out of his sight. He didn't care. He headed straight through without speaking to anyone and made his way to the bedroom he was sharing with his son.
Ulrich raised one eyebrow as Ruel passed through, but said nothing. Ulani was getting drinks for everyone from the kitchen, and Skye had wanted to go with her ... what a curious child.
He glanced back at Donovan. "You mentioned speaking with Atalya about getting rid of the slavers and freebooters," he commented. "When do you plan to do that?"

Miyu was out laid out on her stomach on the counch arm, since she was small enough to fit. She preferred it now that she was comfortable with everyone there. She listened in what was going on, playing with her braid which was now coming undone.
Kara murmured on how long Miyu's hair was, which probably went without saying that Yue and Jaseth's hair were both very long to begin with.

"I'll probably be speaking with her on that before I leave with Triton and Yue to see about those unwanted stalkers of Serenity's. Since our drop off point will be the palace the next time around," he explained, "Though the act of getting rid of the buggers themselves is going to be something else completely," he mused on it.
However he won't make plans for that until the first task was done first.
