I play the Tenor Saxophone in the Jazz Band. I use 2 1/2 Rico Royal, but I need to go up to a 3. (all my reeds broke. One broke while I was playing a solo in rehersals gonk I don't know how or why)

I play alto sax in the school's jazz band and I use a Rico, 2 1/2 reed
(the teacher just gives them to us)
    hehe

man, I've had me a huuuge stock of reeds before
like I go to school and forget my reed and my teacher gives me a new one then I continue to do that and end up with like ten reeds sitting on my dresser >_<

currently my reed is all split up,
it's all cracked and hurts my tongue >_<
    i've had it too long

I play on Vandoren 3's for clarinet and I love them. Ive tried 2 or 3 different brands but Vandoren has always been my favorite.

I also use Vandoren 2 1/2 for Alto Sax. Those work nicely as well.

But for my oboe I have specially made reeds that come outta state! Expensive reeds though. Bout $22 for each one

I've heard bad things about Rico Royals... but I've never really used them. Except once, and I didn't like it. Maybe because I went from a 3 to a 2 1/2 (I was desperate for a reed whee ), but I still thought it was weird.

There may be plenty of fish in the sea

User ImageIn the middle of band today, the guy who sits next to me changed his reed. But then his clarinet just stopped making noise, especially on high notes.
Wasn't so good, as he was playing a solo at the time. =OUser Image

but who really wants to date a fish?

How so Joe

I've never ordered oboe reeds online, so where do you get them--I've tried searching, but I can't find them. (the reason I've never ordered any is because my BD ordered them all for me...)

my BD told me reeds sold online or at the music store is not as good as homemade reed. he told us to buy reeds from our private teacher.

I only used Rico reeds when I started playing the Clarinet. Our band director recommended them, and I'm glad she did. Back then I would break my reeds every four days or so. xD

I use a Vandoren 3.5 reed now, but I should probably move up to a 4. My problem is that I want to upgrade to v12 reeds (for a better sound) but I don't know what size to get since they are slightly thicker and because I'm in between a 3.5 and a 4. >_< Anyone have advice?

I started out on ricos but in highschool my BD said to either get Vandoren or we wouldn;t have a chance of getting in Honors. Of course the only time I auditioned for it I was terribly sick and I still beat out half of the clarinets but I still got placed in JV It pissed me off.

I Play the clarinet... so what would a clarinet be without a reed?! I think it's hilarious when people are like, "you eat wood?". No, I DON'T EAT WOOD! Kinda random...

I actually usually play with a watermelon-flavoured plastic reed though... they don't break really easily! ...But they smell terrible when you set them on fire. -.-

I play clarinet too, and use a size 3 reed. I changed reeds recently and now it sounds really airy...and I don't like it sad

You just gotta use more air
