Aideki began to snooze, her crimson eyes shut lightly as her lips parted slightly. A small breeze ran across the ground, falling over her and playing with the black locks of her hair.
She absent-mindedly licked her lips, taking in a deep breath and smelling the air. It was so fresh.

*flies over the lake, laughing and twirling around, water dancing off the crimson wings, thinking,I may not know much about these wings still, but at least they no longer scare me. I guess wandering can help as well as hinder.*

*She looked at him curiously...not completely understanding the glance that was shared between him and her sister....seeing the new color in his face she couldn't help herself and giggled*
..hehe...I see that alot has definitely happened since I retreated to the library...
*she gripped the tree tighter to keep her balance after her giggle fit....noticing that they were no longer alone at the lakeside...she realized that they probably looked very odd right now...up in the tree*....Umm why don't we get down from here first..and then you can tell me what you've been up to!
*with a nervous smile she realized.....how in the world am I gonna get down from here!.......as she tried to hide her preoccupation by getting distracted with a squirrel that had just scurried up one of the branches..and hopped into a hole*

Shinta nodded at Sasha's question, then tried to keep from chuckling as he observed her nervous glances downward when the bow swayed from her giggles.

"Funny," He remarked with a smile, "I've always found sitting in a tree to be quiet and relaxing." With this Shinta carefully stood on the branch and turned around, then crouched with his back facing Sasha. "My friend, if you would only climb up on this one's back, it shall be a simple matter to get down from the tree."

"........."
*she knew she couldn't hide anything from someone who could read emotions as well as she did...but relieved she said:..."Thanks...Shinta-sama"
*She took two brisk steps towards him..never looking down, and then tightly grabbed on...she peeked over his shoulder at the ground, which made her grab on even tighter...and shut her eyes*
"......"

"There there...no need to worry..." Shinta murmured, sensing her fear. Grinning, he added, "You fly very well for one afraid of heights!"

Shinta walked carefully along the branch to an area free of growth beneath. Turning his head, he smiled gently and caringly at the girl holding onto his back for dear life. "Just keep holding on okay?"

Then he leapt into open space. Falling with arms outstretched, he landed in a crouched position that allowed his legs to absorb the impact.

Shinta turned his head again and smiled at Sasha. "You can let go now. We're here."

*It felt like the moment was going in slow motion...but before she knew it they were on the ground....it was funny but even though they were falling for that split second..Sasha had felt completely safe..she let go of her grip on him...and looked up happily...but then the impact caught up with her..*
"....."@___@......I'm...Ok...don't worry"...
*stumbling a little, she steadied herself..and brushed off some dirt from her soggy garment, smiling she said*
....I'm sorry...It's just that I had a bad experience with heights a couple of years back....*she glanced over at Natsuko..who wasn't too far behind..and she had the pure look of concern on her face..Sasha winced and said...."My magic is good...but not always as strong as it should be..."*blushing she looked down...*

Shinta reached out a hand to steady Sasha and raised an eyebrow at Natsuko's looks of annoyed concern. What?!

"Your magic is very impressive Sasha-dono. Only..." His face softened again in gentle reprimand, "please remember that one of the most important parts of having power is knowing your limits."

Natsuko continued staring, not bothering to communicate through their telepathic link.

"It seems this one has been in error somehow..." The swordsman remarked confusedly. Seeing that Sasha was still off-balance, he added, "Perhaps this one should have just climbed down with you, but that would have taken longer and given you more opportunity to fall." He gave Natsuko a pointed look.

Nasuko seemed to let out a sigh, a strange thing for one who no longer breathed, then nodded back. Just always be careful to protect my little sister, okay Shinta-kun?"

"With my life Natsuko-dono..." Shinta answered softly. "Always..."

......knowing your limits...I guess I forgot about the last time that happened...a quick flashback came to her mind...a mountain,a river that flowed upwards, embedded in it...a boy with silver gray hair was shouting her name as he watched her fall from the top...and then..darkness... ...shuddering slighly, she passed it off as still being a little dizzy, she locked Shintas statement away in her memory...

*Nodding in agreement...and then looked from him to the still-annoyed entity of Natsuko*...Don't worry Onee-san...I'm alright!...besides protecting is what Shinta-sama does best!....but I will try to be less reckless with myself, an improve my abilities in exchange!...*she said with determination*

..*grinning, she turned to Shinta*...Well...we shoul-....a-atchoo!!...get going...*rubbing her nose, she remembered that she was still soaking wet from the waist-down*

Shinta nodded gravely to Natsuko and Sasha, sensing they both had just relived whatever unpleasant memory it was that the girl had mentioned earlier.

"This one trusts you have gained wisdom and prudence since the time you were the girl that Natsuko knew..." He remarked to Sasha.

What his face did not show was the joy and painful irony he felt at Sasha's trusting statement. She truly believes I am one who protects... He thought. Thank all the powers that be she did not know me back then... He felt a sudden fierce longing within his heart to fulfill this girl's words, to protect her from whatever darkness she might face--including himself. The strength of this emotion and the threat it implied to his control somewhat frightened him.

Just then Sasha sneezed, breaking Shinta's train of thought. He smiled tenderly, then reached into his sleeve pocket for the spare hankerchief he kept there. "Come Sasha-dono, I'll walk you back to your room so you can change out of those wet clothes. Hopefully I can also protect you from catching cold."

He watched with strange care and fascination as Sasha proceeded to blow her nose loudly. Then he put an arm around her shoulders and the two teleported to her room.

Aideki's eyes opened, slowly, and she found herself staring up at a dark sky, dotted with twinkling stars. She sat up, looking around... She guessed she had dozed off, though her sleep was oddly dreamless...cold and hollow.
She rubbed her eyes with her fists, yawning and stretching as she got to her feet. The night was cool, but clear and briskly refreshing. She went over to the lake's edge and squatted down, dipping cupped hands into the cold water. She brought them up to her face and splashed water upon her skin, then shaking it off.
She then looked around, still squatting as her arms hung between her legs. The night was silent, as usual, and she wondered where everyone was. The pagoda seemed a little less lively than what she was used to. Her crimson eyes fell back down upon the placid surface of the lake and she sighed.

She grabbed a handful of smooth rocks, and stood up straight. One by one, she flung each rock out across the lake with a hard flick of her arm and wrist. The rocks skipped across the water about five times until they were caught in the liquid and pulled down.
She continued to do this, skipping a rock, watching it until it sank, then throwing another.

*Hikari popped up next to the lakeside, near the far end at the edge of the forest. She sat down in the soft grass and picked up a pinecone laying nearby. She aimlessly fiddled with it until she began to hear 'plunk plunk' in the lake. A bit of a ways away, Aideki was skipping stones. She would normally have gone over to see her, but she felt somehow that she might want to be alone. IN her experience, people didn't skip stones to attract company...

She settled for a wave and laid back against a tree*

She let the last rock fly out of her hand, watching it as it skipped across the lake surface. She sighed as it sank, shoving her hands into her pockets. She then noticed that some one else had appeared at the lake. Her head cocked to the side as she looked at her, realizing she hadn't seen her in a very long time.
Aideki made her way around to Hikari, stopping at her side, "Hello, Hikari...do you remember me? It has been a long time..." Aideki said in a monotone voice, her eyes leaving the girl and drifting off to stare out across the lake.
