Pressing a hand to the rapidly healing bump, Julian glanced down and hastily stood back up.
"I'm just...not going to do it. I'm not going to ask. I can't physically handle learning anything else disturbing today."

"Pick your woman up, Julian," Liam said suddenly, turning for a moment, "They get confused sometimes."
The first torso broke the ground, a one-eyed, jawless fiend with four arms.
He didn't smell too pretty.
Others soon followed, clawing and shambling and rolling their way toward Liam's corpse, making a not-so-stereotypical breathy, rasping sound.

Obliging to the order, Julian hoisted Rabid up, cradling her body close. The pain he'd again forgotten rushed back so fast it left him dizzy.
"I got you," he said, voice inaudible. Not that it mattered.

Liam watched for a moment as the first few of his dearest pets began to tear away at his corpse, and then he had to turn away.
"I might know someone who'll know what to do."

~ Part Twenty ~
Ike knew that there was no reason for him to go back to Mei-Vaar ever again. He'd seen that Liam's eyes had returned to normal. He'd heard the man state happily that he was no longer addicted and he, and all of his fanged glory, may be able to find someone to resurrect Rabid from her state of hybernation.
But here he was, dressed in his jacket with no top hat, armed with his blade of light and searching for a guard. He had been looking for nearly four hours when he saw one.
It was a small man, a young one. His uniform was too large for him, and he was trembling, holding his rifle as if he'd never so much as seen one before.
Do it, boy.
"...but he's so young. He's so frightene--"
DO IT!
And so Ike ran forward to silence the voice in his head. He rammed the blade into the boy's chest, and he writhed adn screamed beneath it.
...and then he felt himself being pulled away.
He spun angrily to see a large clan of Vavvians surrounding him, some holding him tight and a few holding bright search lights.
He'd fallen for the bait.
Twenty minutes later, he found himself and his dearest companion Skelly locked in a large, empty Vavvian jail cell.
"Uh-oh."

~ Part Twenty-One ~
"Look, we'll just have to leave a note for him," Liam tried to explain, scribbling something down on teh back of a food wrapper.
"I think he deserves to know that his mother is d--"
"SHHHH."
Björn shot the little girls a careful look and shifted the chest that contained Rabid's crumpled body on his shoulder.
"Okay. Leave the kid a note."
Liam left the wrapper on the counter and went to fiddle with the coordinates on the nearby portal.

Hanging about in a tightly-knit group, none quite willing to part company with the other, Crow, Julian, Ethan and Lenore watched the proceedings in silence. Julian looked the most worn among them - his face had become drawn and eyes darkly shadowed. Crow clung to his arm, managing a very weak half-smile as he patted her head, though it was almost dismissively.
"Where are we going?" Len asked, breaking the silence as she nudged Ethan with an elbow.
"I don't know," he said, shaking his head as he glanced at the load Björn bore.

"To Earth," Liam said suddenly as the portal's entrance flickered into existence, "I may know someone who can help."
Without another word, he stepped through.
Ducking, Björn followed.

"Well," Crow said, tugging Julian's arm and forcing him to follow her. "Let's go."
She and her brother stepped through, leaving Len and Ethan to exchange looks.
"Well," Len said, ducking through.
"Hmm..." Ethan said to no one in particular, following after.

They emerged in the same forest Julian, Crow, Liam, and Rabid had visited a year or so before, but something about them was not right. It could be that they were short a person, yes, but it seemed like more.
A shadow was perched atop the 'warehouse' before them.
"JEAN-GABRIEL!"
The figure's head (or what one could assume was its head) snapped toward the group, and gigantic wings spread.

"Hey," Julian said, nudging his sister as he looked up. "Lookit that."
Crow looked, an eyebrow arching.
"Huh. That's kinda neat."
"Mm."
Ethan did not share the opinion, and hung back warily. Lenore had the grace not to scoff at him and petted his shoulder reassuringly.

Jean-Gabriel, all black and white and obviously daemonic, glided down from the roof and landed beside the group. He placed a gentle hand on the chest on Björn's shoulder and grimaced.
"So it is true. She has died." He was clearly a Southerner.
"Yes."
"Why have you come to me?"
"Well, I just--"
"A common misconception. Voodoo is not capable of resurrection."
Liam shrank visibly.

"Ah..."
Crow looked up at the sound of the sigh and flinched at the expression on Julian's face, and clung to his arm again. He made no move to acknowledge it, head bowing slightly. Not bothering to take being ignored personally, she hung on and roughly knuckled her eyes, hating the burn of tears.

"I do, however, know of a family. They are capable of such things, as far as I know."
"You do?!"
"Yes. there are four of them. Elves, I believe."
"Ooh..."
"It should not be hard to find them, either."
"Why? Where are they?"
"Mei-Vaar."
Björn choked and nearly dropped Rabid.
"What?"
Jean-Gabriel was smiling smugly still. They had gotten themselves into this mess, after all.

"Elves."
The word slipped out of Crow's mouth before she even realized she'd spoken. In all the oddities she'd heard of in her life, she never would've figured that Elves would be living in a...what was it, anyway? Alternate dimension? Different planet?...populated by eel-people. She just couldn't conceive it.
"I've heard stranger," Julian said, taking back his arm and shoving his hands into his pockets.
"Hmm."
