Because he gets the girl and people think he doesn't deserve it.
And that is how the Epic Phan Battle began.

I think Christine is the one who doesn't deserve Raoul, personally. There, I win the Epic Phan Battle. Not really.
I just thought of something regarding the sequel...I was hoping that even though we all know the storyline is going to defy the laws of physics by blowing and sucking at the same time, the music at least might be good. Maybe even almost as good as the first. But then I realized that last time...Lord Froggy was writing the musical especially for Sarah Brightman, because he was in love with her and her bee-yoo-tiful voice and he's a ugly composer dude and she is his muse but then she left him how sad OMG THEIR STORY IS JUST LIEK PotO WOAH.
ahem...Anyway, this time I think he's just doing it for the money, or maybe because he's somehow under the delusion that this is a good use of his energy. There is no LOVE in this music. It won't even compare. Not to mention I already heard one of the songs, "The Heart is Slow To Learn," and it kinda sucked. Haha, who wants to bet "No One Would Listen" will somehow end up in the musical? Dear God.
And yes, it is a little totally creepy to think that Andy+Sarah=Erik+Christine, but it makes sense if you think about it...kinda... eek

"The Heart is slow to learn, the Heart is slow to learn, and as I've said before, the Heart is slow to learn."
^ Lyrics. Kid you not. Wtf, srsly.
And I agree with Mirienne on the musical part. There's nothing but money in mind now because PotO has been successful, so he wants more money from the "franchise".

Andy's going a bit brain dead in the lyrics/musical ideas department. Doesn't he have enough money to lead a life of comfort?

He has more than enough, but you know how it is. You get used to the expensive comforts, so you want to milk the cash cow for all its worth so you can keep it and add more.

He is obviously doing it because of all the hype the 2004 movie caused. I used to try to defend it... but I've given up on that philosophy. Sometimes trying too hard to look for something good in something so bad really is pointless. He is basing the sequel on THAT version of the musical. not even the one that's on Broadway now. In the sequel the Phantom is supposed to be, what, no older than thirty? It doesn't make sense. Why on Earth would you want to watch the SAME EXACT thing over again, in sheep's skin of being a sequel? Not only will it RUIN the emotional impact of the original, but we have already seen what it does to character.
I read online, in a recent article, that the original script writer for the sequel (not Forsyth, surprisingly) was not what Andrew Llyod Webber wanted so (big surprised) he replaced him offically with Forsyth. His writing is terrible. Webber goes on to say how much of a genious he is. Forsyth slaughters the characters as established by the play (not novel). Webber feels that Forsyth best represents his characters.
The music is not all that great. The lyric... well... they speak for themselves.

Only reason Webber regards Forsyth as a genius is that they're friends. Not only that, but in Forsyth's foreword in the novel PoM, which this is based on, he ripped Leroux to shreds, calling him some moronic, unrealistic git, and then saying Webber really needed to be credited with the creation of the characters. It's all a big circle of BS when it comes to those two.

Wow... I can't believe this ! How dare he ! I haven't read his book but wanted to out of curiosity . However , after seeing this, I don't want to anymore . I mean who in their right mind would say such a thing on another author ? God I really hope ALW will come back to his senses ... He's just sinking lower and lower in my opinion. By the way ... What does BS mean? sweatdrop
