Ah yes, Special Characters. The new way to have 'non-vanilla' armies. "Want two plasma weapons in one squad? Better take [insert character]. Want Deepstrike for your whole army? Take [insert another character here]."

My god...
Have you guys seen the rumors on the new Salamanders Special Character? He's going to become one of the most used characters in the game from the way I see it. Seriously, all Flamer variants and Melta variants becoming Twin Linked for free? Tshveet.

I'm not sure how I feel about the new rules for these characters, altering the entire army. Why not have them be seperate, that way if you don't want to pay for everything to be twin-linked, you don't have to.

As far as I saw it, those weapons that I mentioned became twin linked for free.

Seems like the way they're blancing the Specials in the new Space Marine codex is that the baseline Force Commander grants the force a number of army-wide abilities. When you take a special character, you lose out on the base abilities in exchange for the special characters army-wide abilities.

When you take a special character, you lose out on the base abilities in exchange for the special characters army-wide abilities. So I've heard. I just like the way things are currently done, where you buy the upgrades for the army, rather than having ICs grant them. With Space Marines for instance, what if you want to take a Librarian rather than Force Commander? If they grant seperate abilities to the army, what if I want one commander and another attribute for the army? I prefer freedom. @Caleidah- Well, it's "free". You still have to pay the point cost when you buy the Special Character.

Ah, such is what I meant, Xenos. Oh well, though. One thing that I'd like to see would be a whole bloody slew of characters for the Imperial Guard. They have a painfully small number supported in Codex, whereas they should have dozens.

Mephiston is Blood Angels. He's their Chief Librarian, it would seem, and he's got some fairly sweet stuff going for him. Now I'm jealous of the power Wings of Sanguinus. (It allows whatever uses it to move as its flying counterpart. Foot infantry -> Jump Infantry, Bike -> Jetbike)

FlashbackJon That's my beef right there - the background. I like them as iconic characters and all, but to me that's how they ought to stay, not in every kid's 1500 point army. Similarly, I wouldn't object if someone converted a model, made up their own backstory, and fielded it 'counting as' a special character, balanced or no. that reminded me of yugioh i dont know how many of you played yugioh but i did for a while and i remember kids saying "oh my god i have a blue eyes white dragon" "i do too!" "me too!" "i do as well..." "yah, same" "uhh... i guess there not all that great huh?" in the show there was only like, 3 of them and here they are handing out these things in every starter pack made me chuckle you have a very good point

Holy crap, a pertainant Yu-Gi-Oh reference. I tip my hat to you.
I really hope that GW releases another system to create your own special characters with traits and whatnot.
