Gyack!! (why didn't I post in here earlier?? I don't know...)
OMG, this episode. IT. WAS. PERFECT.
I'm still slightly sad that Ursa and the White Lotus weren't there like I had hypothesized...
But holy crap.
You want to know why this episode is perfect?
Zutara has begun.
3nodding That and all the awesomness that are the characters and everything that happened. and the Temple was just freakin' sweet.
Zuko is so awkward, it's hilarious. I love how he's got a little toad friend to rehearse his lines to! XD And how Appa, predictably, was the first one to welcome him to the group...with a big kiss!
xd The Gaang's reaction to him was perfect and dead on. I called Toph on being the one to have a sensible outlook on Zuko, and that the others would be too driven by their emotions to think straight...
And Katara's reaction, I don't see it as harsh, or, as I've actually seen it phrased in many other places, 'b****y'...It was VERY realistic.
Combustion man was fun too! I have to wonder where the Heck Zuko foung him though. And I totally knew that Zuko was going to say 'I'll pay you double to leave them alone!' Amazing that he managed to track them down so easily, too...
Sokka... was Sokka this episode, what can I say? he had everything, humor, inginuity...even an awkward moment with Zuko! *Zukka fangirl squee!!* And he took down Combustion man!
And they managed to get the One-shots out of the way, too. Which had to happen so we could focus on how the original!Gaang would react to Zuko. It was still hilarious, though XD
Anyway...Zutara. Holy crap.
That last scene, when Katara threatened Zuko?
It says SO much.
I know some are saying that it was the end of Zutara, that Katara despises Zuko and now nothing can ever come of it.
Actually, I've never been so sure of Zutara happening!
The last scene showed so much between the lines, and it gave us a few very important elements that are going to come together.
1. Zuko wants to be Katara's friend, and he is eager to be on good terms with her. This is shown by the little smile he gives when he realizes who it is standing in his doorway. As well as when it comes down to her earlier when they're accepting him into the group.
2. Katara is still hurt and angry at him. Obviously. It's to the point of being willing to KILL to protect Aang(Which, on another note, TOTALLY echoes Ursa!
wink )
3. Zuko KNOWS he's hurt Katara, and now, he knows he hurt her BAD. That sad look he gives her as she walks away, that says it ALL.
Things between them are so tense right now, but the fact is, their new static relationship is really putting them into a position that WILL develop.
Zuko is going to want to set things right between them, but he knows that it is going to be very hard, and take some time for him to regain her trust. And Katara is definitely going to be on his mind for a while. Not to mention Katara's mistrust of him will make her watch him like a hawk.
Zuko will strive to set things right, and Katara, over time, will see that Zuko has really changed. When that happens, they can finally be friends, and I'm guessing something more.
...I probably put this all better in my DA journal...But yeah. I've never been so sure of Zutara before. It's going to be an intense road, but it will be one heck of an awesome ride.
biggrin Here's my journal rant on Deviantart...My thoughts on the episode are a bit more complete on there...
