There was a fierce 'clunk' as the lift reached the foot of its descent. The darkness spread around her form as the massive blast doors overhead blocked out the sun. She clutched at her wrist and, with a click, a bright cone of light burst from her glove and illuminated a good few feet ahead of her. The corridor wasn't as dank as she'd expected, given the circumstances she had pictured it like something out of a horror movie, but it still gave her the creeps. This was Incendiax's equivelent of Dr. Frankenstein's lab, after all, who knew, save Anne, what lurked down here?

She took a deep breath and a large step forward, and she was on her way, free hand ever at her side near the butt of the rifle that hung around her shoulder on a thick strip. She toyed with the idea of calling out to Matar, but decided against it, just to be on the safe side. She did, however, increase her pace. Her memory told her that this was the route she had taken when she had come to see Matar that time before, when he had been so enthused to see the flandamerite with his own eyes. Perhaps now he'd had his chance.

Suddenly, a low sound. She stopped dead in her tracks, bringing the rifle up to aiming height. Another room branched off to the side of hers where the viewing station had been located, and she reckoned that the sound coming from it was heavy breathing. She tiptoed forwards, enforced with a fierce battle-calm. Her eyes blazed as she reached the corner, killing the light and jumping around, relying on her own instinct and the little night-vision she had to tell her what lay beyond.

A silhouette, not human. Not human... Something sparked inside her mind, an innate reaction and, upon catching sight of Matar's frail body in the dim blue haze, she put her finger on the trigger.

A brilliant flash of blue, like a sun.

She fired a volley at the creature.

-I’ve no idea how I’m going to get Matar to the medical area; most of the Aria’s are gone and the rest are inoperable. There’s a stretcher around here somewhere but I’ll need someone else to lift it with me and Marks in no fit state. It looks like the only other option is to carry him… that could be very dangerous.-

Her hand slipped from Mark’s head which she’d been scratching idly, she needed to see what kind of damage M had suffered; broken back or ribs would foil her plan entirely. She reached for a small knife in her belt and began to rip open his t-shirt; there was no other way to get it off. Gently, she touched his spine first, nothing seemed to be wrong with that. She carefully ran her fingers under his muscular form to his ribs, first one side then the other; nothing seemed wrong with them either.

“You’re a very lucky man, Matarael,” She muttered as she tried to pick him up. Finally she’d got him in the right position with her arms holding him firmly she got her feet and bent knees under herself and stood up with him in her arms.

-He’s much heavier than I expected!- she grunted and struggled to maintain her balance on the slippery ground but she made it ansd set off at an urgent pase towards the medical wing.
