Datiath was very much enjoying being scratched in all the right places. He looked over to his rider and gave a huffle. Maybe you should take lessons. Scratch me please.

N'tren was happy to oblidge. He used both hands to massage his dragon's skin and noticed as some of the dry skin came off. Looking at Datiath, he frowned. "You need to let me know when you have dry skin. I can't see all of you anymore. WeyrlingMaster Farin told us about how dangerous it could be."

Turning to Caleten, N'tren explained. "Between is the coldest you have ever felt. It is cold and empty right down to your bones. If you were to scream, you wouldn't know it. Between is basically nothing."

He stopped scratching for a moment. "And if a rider or a dragon were to take a trip between, besides Threadfall, with an injury or dry sking they can get seriously sick. Firehead is a human sickness that can result from it... Dragons just..."

He didn't have to continue.

Datiath's eyes tinged with apology and he crooned softly to his rider. I am sorry beloved. I will always tell you when I am dry.

Nodding and punching his dragon slightly, N'tren turned back to Caleten. "That is fine with me. Hopefully the music will stop before my stomach decides to override the rest of me."

Remia's cheekbones pinked as he brushed her hand with his lips, and was quite charmed. She smiled to cover her embarrassment, and nodded as he explained who he was, but shook her head a little at the last.

"Not completely new. My Trith is from the clutch Ariath had with Tallith... the one before last," she said. She glanced down at his hand still holding hers from the corner of her eye, but didn't say anything.

Instead, she continued, "We're almost at the end of our training, with just a few more months to go. We-- all the Sr. Weyrlings, I mean-- are going to participate in the next 'fall. It makes me nervous to think on it," she confided, looking down and fussing with Oli's position to cover. The little blue looked up at her and cheeped, rubbing his head against the hand that held him.

"New enough that I must've missed you while I was gone." He pointed out fairly and let her hand go as he took a sip of his wine. "I don't have much opinion on the fall. We traders have done just fine without dragonriders, I don't get the fear. Holders get right frantic." He shrugged, then smiled to soften any offense she may have taken at his words. "And that's a ways off, besides. I don't think you have to worry, they say smart riders never get scored. If you're as smart as you are pretty, well then." He shrugged and, casting a glance at the blue, ate his pastry. Anything that lingered too long was fair game for one of the little pests.

Caleten look to N'tren out of the corner of her eye as he came over to pet Daitath. She listened to him speak to his dragon about dry skin, she always kept Gem well oiled because the little flit loved it, she didn't know about any dangers.

When N'tren explained, she gave him her full attention. Between always was something she wondered about. She doubted very much she'd ever have the opportunity to know it for herself, but the description was enough to give her a good idea about it. Really, it sounded rather interesting.

Her hands froze when he alluded to what could happen to a dragon in between. It was horrifying just to think about it, not only was she deeply concerned for Datiath, and even N'tren, but the idea of anything happening to Gem worried her.

Speaking finally she said, "I didn't know, Gem would insist on me oiling her, and I did it because she enjoyed it. I had no idea of what could happen if she didn't get oiled." Thinking about it further, she finally decided that since she already seemed to get along with N'tren there was no harm and spending a bit more time with him, she could also find out a few things for when she got up and left in the coming days.

"N'tren, would you let me help you to oil Datiath? Gem could use it too; we can help each other with them. I am used to traveling at night, but I'll be here at least for a bit tomorrow also." Yeah, she could stay a tad longer; it had its good points. 'Is it okay with you, Datiath?' She wasn't sure if she could contact him if he wasn't in her mind, but tried anyway.

"You don't have to wait on me if your really hungry." Granted she was hungry too, but was far to stubborn to go down into that slow music.

"It isn't come for a dragon to just get lost between. It normally happens when the rider's mind is frantic or when the rider..." He stopped and took a deep breath. "Anyways, I don't think you have to worry about Gem. Flits do just fine without humans and bonding with one will never be as close as bonding to a dragon."

These were words repeated from his weyrling master and others in the hold who had flits. Only if the human-flit bond was extremely close would the little creature refuse to leave. Otherwise, some thought it was easy food that keep them close by.

"It would be fun if you helped! As you can see, his has bulk all over and I have to check him at least once a week. We were given a set of stiff brushes and clothe for oiling. And I bet Gem wouldn't mind being rubbed down also!" He grinned at the little gold who was settled quite comfortably.

It is okay with me. The more who help...The better I feel. Sometimes, my rider helps Trith's rider. Then oil and soap end up every where. He chuckled at this. Sending the image to Gem, he showed what pranksters he and Trith were when they got together.

N'tren brightened up. "I know. You can stay here and I will run and grab some of that roast. Tubers and flatbread as well?"

They had something in common, she doubted highly he could even grasp the relationship she had with Gem, nor could she grasp his relationship with Datiath, "I think, once you have a flit of your own, you'll understand that bond better." She wasn't bothered, since she didn't understand the dragon relationship, but she really believed in the strong bond.

"Awesome, it will be neat to get to brush and oil Daiath. She would, Gem loves the attention." When she heard Datiath, she didn't know it but she was too late when she responded to him 'It sounds fun. Oil and soap everywhere? Sounds like something that would give Gem ideas.' She looked at her comfortable gold, it was neat to see how well Gem got along with him, and vice-versa.

Gem heard her name and chirped to N'tren. The images she got from Dataith, she trilled to him. It sounded like fun.

Caleten nodded, "Sounds like a great idea." She didn't want to go down there, but if he was volunteering, far be it for her to pass it up.

Remia almost bristled at the trader's words, but held it in. She knew there were people who lived their whole lives away from hold or crafthall. They took shelter in caves or metal-covered wagons during 'fall. She couldn't see the appeal in it herself, but there it was.

She smiled again at his compliment, and self-conciously smoothed her hair with her now free hand. "Well, I hope you're right. I don't think I could bear it if Trith got scored because of me," she said, reaching out to her dragon with her mind.

You would never let me get hurt, Mine. And I am fast. Thread will not hurt us, Trith said with confidence, and Remia took heart.

She glanced about, and then looked up at Imrin. "Would you like to sit down somewhere? I think I will get something to eat. One meatroll isn't enough, I'm afraid," she said. At the mention of food, Oli perked up again.

"Hm... but I don't dare take him near the food stalls... Can I leave him with you? I'll bring you back something in payment," she offered. "He's really not so bad as his behavior may have led you think," she added. Oli chirped, and tilted his head, recognizing that he was being talked about.

It was a proof of his rank as Master that he held in the shudder at the thought of the blue flitt being left under his charge. He quickly weighed the benefits and drawbacks (plenty of the latter) in his mind before.

"I suppose...but they don't listen to me." He gave a warning look to the flitt, "I fare better with a runner." Then again, firelizards weighed the same and were about the same size as the balls the trader children, and a few of the adults, played with on the road. He could get good distance with the little blue should he cause too much trouble. His thoughts, of course, never showed on his face.

"I'll watch him, but don't leave me alone too long. Some less charmin' lady might lure me off." He tilted his glass to her, "I appreciate the spicy offerin's, if you manage it."

(( You know, I should have checked, but if she'd known he was a Master, she would have been a lot more respectful. ^_^; Unless he's not wearing rank knots. In which case if she finds out... ))

Remia smiled at Imrin's comment, and coaxed Oli up onto her forearm, then over to his. Oli stepped daintily, unused to being on someone else's arm, though he quickly grew comfortable, twining his tail around Imrin's arm for stability.

Remia curtsied her thanks. "I'll be back before you know it. He likes to be rubbed on his eye ridges and between his wings, if you want. Thank you very much!" she said, and hurried away to the stalls.

She wove her way through the crowd, and soon found herself in a bout of spirited bargaining with several vendors including meatrolls, some small handheld savory pies, as well as a bubbly pie vendor. She didn't know anyone who would say no to one of the treats. She then made her way over to the wine.

This is beginning to be a bit much to carry... perhaps I should find a drudge... she thought, and looked around.

Oli, in the meantime, had sat contentedly for a few moments, before growing bored, and turning his tiny head around to examine the face above him. Why wasn't he being entertained? He chirped quizzically, and his eyes whirled a bit faster shade of blue, lighter than his dark blue hide.

((he doesn't tend to wear his knots often, a lot of people rag on him because of his rank. He'll let her know if he thinks it might help him out XD))

Imirin held in the grumbling and watched the girl disappear. Oh what he could be cajoled into for women...

After he couldn't see Remia's figure in the crowd his turned his mistached and narrowed eyes to the beast on his arm when it chirped. "I'm suspectin' there're too many witnesses for me to toss you in a pot and claim you're a whersport?" He sighed and wandered slightly more out of the crowd and to one of the waiting and empty tables. He wouldn't be hard to see when the girl returned. Besides, if she could miss the bright colours...well, she had no hope in managing to spot thread. He sat down with care to the firelizard, if only to prevent it from eating his face or the like.

Was he going to pet it? He lifted a hand, then cringed. No, no he wasn't going that far. The beastly little thing was a darker shade than T'bells' blue pest, and more alert. He wondered again if the other blue hadn't been dropped as an egg...or if T'bell had for surrounding himself with so many winged things.

He glanced at the blue again and spun the rings on his unoccupied hand, then took a long gulp of the wine he had left. She'd better be back soon.

"I have no doubt of that. Just like I have no doubt that if you were to ever stand in the sands you might have a good chance of Impressing." N'tren blurted out then blushed. "I think you would, you know."

I will not get you wet if you do not want. We can get N'tren wet together. He hates when I tip my tail. Datiath sent a rumble of dragon laughter towards Caleten and Gem.

"We can meet down at the inner coast where the big rock is... Do you know the really big one that blocks the sun sometimes? That's where I scrub him at cuz I can climb the rocks to reach the hard spots."

Giving Datiath one final good scratch, he nodded. "Okay. I will be back with food... Possibly a drudge to help carry it all. Anything for Gem?"

Caleten looked at him when he told her he thought she would Impressive. That was something that had never even crossed her mind before. What would it be like to be a dragonrider? She wasn't afraid of Thread, but did not want to be found. As a rider, hiding would be difficult or really easy depending. If she Impressed say gold, there would be no way her name would not have been known if not just a bit. Then there was the sands, people from all over came, what would she do if her parents, or brothers came?

She pushed the thoughts out of her mind only telling him, "Thanks, however, unless a Search dragon kidnaps me again, I will be far way when the eggs are ready to hatch." It would take something to keep her here, what she wasn't sure.

To Datiath, she told him, 'I really don't want to get wet.' Her clothing got clingy when wet, the whole purpose to wear it, no matter how hot, was to hid her figure, not accentuate it.

Mentally, she thought about the inner coast, glad that the South hold was so far away, "I know the place, when would you like to meet?" Looking at Datiath, she wondered it was possible to clean most of him just on his back. Again, she found herself wondering what it would be like to be a rider, to sit atop a massive, impressive dragon, and even to soar.

Gem's eyes whirled the color of excitement that sounded like a lot of fun, soaking both N'tren and Caleten. She trilled out her agreement to the plan.

Caleten told him, "Just a little bit of meat for her, a three or four pieces, she ate well this morning." No since in turning her flit into a glutton

Oli watched the lifted hand expectantly, cooing quietly. When it moved no further, though, he sighed, and hopped down onto the table. With a flip of his wings, he stared up at the hand, wondering what was wrong with it. Was it broken? Didn't it know what it was supposed to be doing? He moved the few inches towards it, and rubbed his head under the fingers as a demonstration, chirping happily, his translucent wings rustling.

Remia, meanwhile, had searched out a drudge, and pressed her into carrying the tray she had while she got a flagon from the wine vendor. That should be everything, she thought, and though she would have preferred some fresh meat for Oli, she didn't have time or the clothes to go butcher it herself, and didn't want to bother one of the meat pie vendors for some. He'll be pleased with a meatroll to himself, anyway, she thought.

She and the drudge wound their way through the crowd back to where Remia thought she and Imrin had been standing, but they weren't there anymore... she looked around, gazing through the crowd for a shock of red hair.

Trith, where is Oli?

The little brother is with the man, at a tables, the green replied, and Remia smiled at the content and drowsy tone in the dragon's voice.

She turned around towards the tables, and quickly spotted Imrin at an empty table. "Over there, please," she said to the drudge. Not a moment later, they were setting their burdens down on the table, and Remia sighed as she took a seat, smiling at Imrin and her blue.

"I'm sorry about the wait," she said, though it actually hadn't been that long at all, considering the crowd. "How did you two get along?" she asked.

Shrugging, N'tren went hopping back down the stairs. The crowd had not yet thinned even though the music was slowed and it was getting later in the day. Weaving his way to the roasting pits, he managed to charm to thick slabs of meat and some roasted tubers. Carefully, he balanced the tray as he went in search of flatbreads, rolls and juice.

Meanwhile, Datiath answered Caleten's question. We like it best when the sun rises. We watch the little cousins hunt. And you will only get a little wet.

His eyes whirled happily at the thought of a good scrubbing. Datiath resettled himself, with his big wedges head now looking over the bowl as he stared down at all the people. So busy.

N'tren had managed to find all that was on their list of food and was now slowly climbing back up. The tray was precariously heavy and he gave a shout to Caleten. "Maybe a little help from you or Gem before I end up wearing our food?"

Imirin grimaced at the flitts' contact and moved his hand. Oh where n the blasted shells was she, before this little thing decided to cuddle right up to him.

Imirin was relieved to catch sight of her and attempted to shoo the blue back. "We didn't eat each other." He remarked dryly. "Please tell me you've gotten a wineskin." His eyes searched the pile and he grinned. "Ah, smart girl. I've emptied my cup."

Kyira rushed to the gather in her finest, the long tail of her braided "crown" smacking against her back. Entwined around the Healer's neck Felis complained with a sharp squawk which the young woman minded only by giving the green a reassuring pat on the head. There would be dancing. There would have to be dancing. And maybe she would get a chance to sing with the harpers as well. Maybe someone's brought some new songs! Her heart sang out happily within her so much that the tiny green firelizard could not continue to fuss, being overcome with her human's good mood.

((Not sure how to do this... but she's not been sick & probably not been gone the whole Turn. Although clearly she has, RP wise on my part. Maybe... oh I don't know. Hard to keep her in character when I've been gone so long any absense of hers would be out of character. Unless she went back to the Healer Hall for more training or her Mastery? She wouldn't have spent the entire year gathering herbs. *wry grin*))
