1_marissa_17 I play the alto saxaphone in the jazz band and I'm going to a band competition in Tennisee in april hoping to bring back 1st place in jazz band,concert band,and chorus sweetheart its 'Tennessee' and which part of the state are you going to?

i am the only trombone in my jazz improv class. It is really dificult to improvise the solo though. rofl

Improv is one of the great things about jazz!
I take a solo whenever i can. Some of those written solos are pretty hillarious!
I prefer to read the changes and solo over them.

My school 3 Jazz Bands as of now and my director is thinking of starting another one!!!
We have the Jazz Express -mostly juniors and seniors (or at least the BETTER players)
The Jazz Trane -mostly sophmores and juniors (any1 that couldn't get in2 Express)
and The Jazz Caboose which is out infamous junior high jazz band
The Express is always the smallest one... with about 15-20 kids usually
but the Trane and Caboose are massively loud with the count in the 20s and perhaps 30s.
But should we make another one or just be stricter on who gets in?

MHHornfreak Improv is one of the great things about jazz! I take a solo whenever i can. Some of those written solos are pretty hillarious! I prefer to read the changes and solo over them. You're right! I love improv now, but it was reeeeeeally hard to learn. I could not get it for about two months, an then it clicked. I can solo improv on anything now! I reccommend to you new jazz improvers; don't be afraid to try out new things. I'm perfecting my growl right now. =)

I play vibraphone in the Crescent Jazz Little Big Band, and we are going on tour in California. I love to play solos, it's one of the things that makes jazz, jazz. I won first for best soloist during the Peaks Jazz Festival and I intend to for many more years. Don't even dare to call yourself a jazz musician before you can improv on your instrument.

FINALLY! other people that play flute in jazz band! im one of the only flutes in my jazz band! Whenever I tell someone that I'm in Jazz Band, they ask "What instrument do you play for it?" and i say Flute. And every time, the person replies, "What? I thought flutes couldn't be in jazz band..." and i say, well now you know, and get really angry for some reason.
Sorry, i needed to vent ._.

I'm in Jazz. Our BD started it 3 years ago, after school only kinda thing. But its tons fun. Those of us in it tend to be the most dedicate and the cream of the crop, so to speak.
Played tenor for it, though my BD tried awfully hard to put me on alto, which is prolly what I'll be playing this year...
And.. The first trumpet holds it together, the first trombone listens to the first trumpet, the first alto listens to the first trumpet, and the 2nds and 3rds, and sometimes fourths, listen to the first of their section. Tenors listen to first alto. Although I often skipped listening to the alto and just listened to our first, because even though I hate that boy (well, used to, anyway) he can PLAY. And Loud. >.>
Love Jazz, though.
We have more fun.
Our BD is less of a BD and more of a... person in Jazz... xD
And he always says that we're his favs. And really we are. We Have Fun.

i'm a trumpet player in my jazz band. i'm the best in our section. almost three-fourths of instruments played in my symphonic band r used in our jazz band. we're good cause we played for all sorts of people, including charities.
