The vulture did not come out of the cave. Even when Banzai looked inside of it he saw no movement. It was as if the vulture had just died after fulfilling its mission or something. The bird was not his concern though. He padded over to Mafa, his eyes rather cross. There was nothing for him here now- No food, no hero welcomes, nothing but a small pup. He couldn't help but feel responsible for doing this to her. Had he just left her back in the Mistweaver territory, none of this would have happened. She would find someone else to take care of her, someone not of her species, but also someone who was capable of loving her. Banzai wasn't capable of loving anything, not even Shenzi or Ed. All he was capable of was greed and causing pain.
He didn't look at her, but instead looked off in the direction she herself had chosen. His stern look did not change. It was still as cold as the day he was born. He could feel a new sort of aura from Mafa. She wasn't an annoying carefree pup anymore. She was different. "My folks were killed too... Everything dies. Some stuff just sooner than others. You can't let it bother you. Kid or not, you have to face these problems."
Banzai stopped himself for a second. His mouth was still open to say something, but he wasn't sure if he wanted to say it. Well, whether he wanted it said or not, it was now out in the open. "If you really wanna, you can come and live with me, Shenzi and Ed for a while."

Tears welled up in Mafa's eyes. She thanked the gods that Banzai hadn't taken the time to look at her, for it would have been greatly embarassing. She didn't know what Banzai was getting at, but she really didn't care that his parents were dead as well. Normall she would have trotted up and leaned her head on his leg, but now she sat still, her mind racing. There was no where for her now, Banzai would go back to his pack, Fuzz would find his family and she'd be alone. She hated herself for getting so attached to Banzai. She had grown, but was still in a pups body and could do nothing. Her maw opened in a sneer,
"Don't call me kid, I have a name"
She turned from him and paced, pondering on his proposition. She had nowhere to go and it wouldn't hurt to hang with a bunch of hyenas. Her cold eyes darted back to Banzai,
"Fine... I will"

Banzai wasn't too sure if he liked this new Mafa. She was standing up to authority. Not cool. Well, it was, but not when that authority was him! He didn't acknowledge her answer at all. He turned around and passed the lion cub, kicking up a cloud of dust as he walked fully by him. He wasn't his concern at all. He also doubted Mafa would want a lion for company. Banzai wasn't going to give her anymore comfort anyway. This was sticking his neck out enough. He already knew Shenzi wouldn't be happy.
He trusted that Mafa would follow him. There was nothing to say. She could find him if she took the time. Her attitude wasn't something he wanted to deal with. Awww, poor Banzai was becoming a stressed daddy now...

((Gah the pangs of 'fatherhood' angsty teens! xDDD))
Mafa huffed at the retreating Banzai. She watched him pad off slowly and then stood to watch the cub pounce quietly behind. She stood there looking down into the dirt. Her maw slowly rose to the fogged sky and she let out the best howl a hyena could muster. It danced around the dead beasts that lay in the area, she was proclaiming her change, she despair, her rage. Her maw shut tight as she took one last look to the past: the cave where she had spent such happy months, her heart ached for that again, but an aching heart never got anywhere. She shook her head, tossing her mane about, the new Mafa was taking over the weak thing that was what she once was, it is doubtful that anyone could bring her out, but maybe someday something would bring her old self back around. She just didn't want to get hurt any more, and maybe isolating herself from emotion was the best way to do it. She sighed heavily and tore off after Banzai, nose to the ground, making sure she was going the right way.

Banzai's ears twittered as he heard something coming after him. It had to be Mafa. That painful howl would only linger so long. There was nothing she could do to keep it there but stay howling forever, a sorry way to waste your life. He trekked through the bones as he always did, acting as if there was nothing different. If Shenzi wasn't in the skull, he would simply keep Mafa there until she returned. Ed wouldn't be a problem.
He came out of the valley. He could see the massive elephant skull looming gloomily over the entire graveyard. It was depressing, but that was all life was in a world surrounded by death. He didn't turn to check on Mafa, but instead ran to his home. He had to jump over several animal remains to get there, but it didn't take him long. He crouched his head in first and looked around. "Shenzi? Ed?"

They came upon the looming skull much quicker than she had expected. She chuckled as she realized how close they had been to her old home the whole time. She stopped infront of the large skull and peered up. Was this her home now? Was Shenzi's clan where she belonged now? She looked to one of the tusks and hopped gracefully onto it. She sat down and looked to Banzai who was calling for his friends,
"Are they there? Or is this place just as deserted as the rest?"
She sighed and pondered on her question. She hoped Shenzai wasn't there, Shenzi didn't seem to like her at all, she had just noticed it now. Ed, she had no idea on who that was, she hoped he wasn't around too.

Taabadu made sure he didn't say a word. After finding out what happened to Mafa's parents, he sure didn't want her to come after him. Taaba made sure he was in the shadows. Surly they wouldn't come after him just because he was a lion? What could he have done, a stupid little cub like himself? He quivered slightly, in need of a motherly figure. He closed his eyes and imagined being back home with mother, her rough, pink tongue ruffling and deep cleaning his coat. It felt good to close his eyes, so much dust and debris had gotten in there, and he felt the coolness immediately when he closed them.
A few minutes later he opened his eyes and stared cautiously at little Mafa atop the tusk of the skull. She looked scary and Taaba didn't like scary. He gave a soft mew and crouched low to the ground. He didn't want to be here anymore. At first he thought maybe these foul smelling beasts would feed and groom him so he could be on his way, but time was proving that he was in a pretty sticky predicament.

Mafa had also been pondering on her mother as she sat there on the tusk, all alone. She remembered her loving gaze, and her always wagging tail. Her mother had the the sweetest blue eyes, an odd thing for a hyena. When she'd look at little Mafa, everything would be right in the pups world, but that was all gone now and it would never be back. Her maw was blank of emotions it didn't even show her despair. A small sounded rang out from the shadows. A tiny mew. Her hackles rose, she had forgotten all about that lion runt. A snarl emitted from her throat as she looked at the pittiful beast, some thing she had never done before, she had never even been mad before, just scared. But now, all of her past emotions had turned to hate, and who knew how long that was too last. She decided not to attack little Taabadu, she'd leave him there untill she got really mad, then she'd pick on him. For the time, she layed her head on her paws and shut her eyes, Banzai calling for Shenzai and Ed ringing through the foggy land.

((I'm sorry I didn't reply as soon as I said I would. I butchered my leg and now I have to wear it in a brace and crap... No more excuses. It looks like Gummy never showed up so I'll post saying she's not in the cave. ...Right after I take a nap. ninja ))
Banzai pulled his head out of the skull, or the pit of gloom as he sometimes referred to it on a rainy day. "No one..."
The adult pulled away from the entrance way to let Mafa in first. Thoughts began to flood into his head about his clan. Where were they? It had nearly been a day, and it felt more like a month. Maybe he'd been knocked out longer than he though. No, Mafa would look much different. It was visible that he was struggling with his thoughts as his eyes began to preform intricate movements in their sockets.
Maybe they had just both abandoned him? It's possible that when Shenzi saw him run away, she didn't want to be left alone with the kid and bolted. Ed could be dead for all he knew... He didn't want that though. He too was afraid of being alone.
But now he had Mafa... He wouldn't be alone anymore, as long as she stayed a pup. He could be a good father to her, not like his usual ruffian nature. He could take care of her, for she was the last thing in his world. There would be no more Scar. There would be no more zany jokes between him and Shenzi. There would be no more of Ed's stupid antics. All that he had left to care about was this little girl.
"No!" In a sudden outburst, he let out his rage with that one word. He wouldn't allow Shenzi to run from him. He wouldn't allow Ed to be dead. He wasn't going to change his nature just because some pup was the only thing with him for the time being. He was sure they would come back... He was certain... They had to... His life was useless without them.
He needed them.

Mafa growled slightly as she stood and looked around slowly, still deserted. She slowly padded to Banzai at the skull and heard his voice echo in the empty place. No one there either. She sighed heavily and flopped down on a clearing inside of the skull and laid her eyes on Banzai. He was obviously going through some inner turmoil there though she had no idea what was wrong.
"What're you whining about now? What are we gonna do, they're not here...."
Mafa's stomach grumbled, she had gone a few days without food and she was hungry. She'd just have to wait and see what plans Banzai had.

Taabadu looked at the distraught face of Mafa.
She's probably just as hungry as I am...
"Hey there! Umm......Mafa. You wanna go catch some mice or something?" Taabadu inquired not even knowing if Mafa knew how to catch mice, "They make good snacks, and it could hold us over for a while."
He inched towards her cautiously, padding softly, making sure none of the bones shifted. He stood in front of her, wating her reply.

((Wow, this feels so TLK 2 for reasons...))Mafa's jowls rose slightly as the cub approached her. Why would she want to hunt with a stupid and murderous lion? Another thought zipped through her mind, Taabadu had been around for quite some time, he didn't reek any more, and he acted like a hyena some. She grinned slowly,
"Sure why not Taab, we'll go get some thing to eat, let Banzai stay here and do what he wants."
He'd help her, yes he would, help her get her revange for her now dead family with all of his liony strength, they both just had to get older. SHe pushed those thoughts to the back of her head, stored them away for a later date. She slowly rose and padded to the exit of the skull, waiting there for Taabadu to catch up.

After Mafa's startling suprise, Taabadu slinked behind Mafa. She sure had changed over the course of a few minutes.
Then a thought struck him. What if he lived his life with hyenas? He could go back home when he was older and say how brave and tuff he had been. That would show them all. Feeling energized, Taaba puffed his creamy chest out and trotted next to Mafa.
"Let's see what you can do first." Taabadu demanded.

Mafa snorted, who was that ratty cub to tell her what to do? Of course she knew how to hunt those rodents, she had been living off of them for weeks. She sighed and peered to Taabadu,
"Watch and learn you runt, maybe you'll be good for something someday."
Mafa put her small nose to the ground and sniffed about untill she caught the scent of some food source. She'd follow it until she found it and then maybe if she was in a good mood, she'd share with Taabs. She motioned for the cub to follow her and she trotted off and away from the skull. Banzai wouldn't miss them, he didn't care.

Banzai's eyes slowly followed them out of the cave. Looks like she'd gotten over lions pretty quickly... And now there'd be a replacement for the gang. Two runts. One wasn't even a hyena. He snorted and jumped onto a ledge, then after walking around in a circle three times, he curled himself down onto the rocky bed.
"They'll be alright. Not like we've encountered anything dangerous all this time..." His next mission would be to find his hyenas. In fact, he didn't know how long he'd been unconcious after chasing that lion cub. It could have been days. They might think that HE was the dead one. But wouldn't they still be here? He doubted they'd go looking for him...
