When I was younger I used to dogear. I don't do that anymore. I don't think I can do it. To mar a book (especially if it isn't mine) is unthinkable. I am always buying bookmarks, and I use them...when I can find them. I normally use scrap paper but if I will be reading the book again in a few minutes I just remember the page number. It kills me to see someone dogear a page. That is one of my main fears when letting someone read my books. Bending the pages tears up the book and that is sad. If it is your book go for it, but keep you fingers away from my books

Random pieces of paper. My pockets are full of them so I'll always have one handy...

I use anything and everything around me. I have one main bookmark (a pretty one that I got as a present), and I used to have another one, but the string broke off of it, and it made me sad, so I haven't used it since. I also like folding up my [semi-long] library slips and using those as bookmarks. They're quite durable.
I also tend to put the cover of a second book inside part of the page of the book I'm reading, if I'm not too far into the book.

My arteest friend makes me bookmarks of the characters from my story, and laminates them. I'm terribly spoiled.
What I used to do though was buy a bookmark or two every few years and use those, although I'd resort to ANYTHING that could fit in the book if need be. I never bent the pages though; that was seen as ruining the book, which is one of my cardinal sins.

I usually tear off pieces of paper to use as a bookmark or I don't use anything at all. I've gotten good at finding my page without a bookmark over the years. BUT I NEVER BEND PAGES! Tis like, a sin in my book.

I've started taking to using old movie ticket stubs in order to bookmark my place in whatever I am reading. As if I didn't have a drawer full of bookmarks only a few feet away already.
I would really like to start making my own bookmarks again, however. I enjoyed doing that too.

I usually use receipts or memorize the page number. I also have anime bookmarks; my cousin made me a collage bookmark. (It has pictures of Bleach, Azumanga Daioh, Fruits Basket and other anime.)

I'll use absolutely anything I can find. Fairly clean candy wrappers, playing cards, index cards, ticket stubs, receipts, little pieces of paper, foil, saran wrap... As long as it doesn't dogear the book, I'm good.
I always lose those store-bought bookmarks. Paper works better for me. Like, right now, I'm using the ticket stupid from the Da Vinci exhibit I went to. I've been using it for a couple of weeks. Had it been an actual bookmark, it wouldn't have lasted more than a day or two.

If it doesn't mess up the book, I'll use it. I have a few store bought bookmarks, but they were ones that I was given. I'm not paying two-three dollars for a page marker.
... sometimes I'll dogear if there's nothing available, but I try not to. Don't shoot me, please!

I have many store bought bookmarks, but when I'm reading a book the only one I seem to use is a paper one I used for an English textbook a few years ago. Either that or a tissue, whatever is nearest to me... sweatdrop

I own lots of bookmarks, but rarely ever use them.
Usually I use a receipt, post-it, flyer, business card, wrapper, bill, etc, any scrap of paper I can find.
Usually I reuse the same scrap of paper for a few books, if I don't lose it, and write quotes down on it.
For the last few months I've been using a 'Crunky' chocolate bar wrapper from Korea.

I'm using my old store-bought bookmarks again. One of them shows a romantic embrace with the quote "Love conquers all" at the bottom. It is used to hold my place in The Silence of the Lambs. I have another of a unicorn containing the text "Find the magic within yourself." It is currently being used to hold my place in Fitzgerald's This Side of Paradise.
The last bookmark that I bought was of Sesshoumaru. I don't think there's really any need to gain more additions since I already possess so many... unless, of course, I came across a fabulous bookmark that I just had to have!

Fairgrass That makes me cringe. My mother would have beaten me if I ever dogeared a book. eek I never wrote or highlighted in mine (even my college books), never cracked a spine, and if I bent a page by accident, I'd stack like 10 books on top of the offending one just to straighten it out again.
I guess that's a little extreme, but my mother was rather strict when it came to books. My mum was the same way. She's a complete bibliomaniac.
I don't have the whole bookmark problem, I can almost always remember my page number if I say it outloud. Even if I don't say it I can remember the way the page looks, like where indents and paragraphs are. sweatdrop Yay wierdness

I usually use whatever's around. Papers and stuff. Right now, I found a bookmark that says 'lose my place and I'll re-arrange your face'. It is excellent ;}
