Here are some bits from the chat with RT. You can see it on UPN.com it's called VM talk show. It's 47 min long and not very good quality video though. And there are some small spoilers but nothing major. In fact there's really only one or two I'd consider a real spoiler the rest is just telling us what we expect anyway.
He said that he had zero intention of creating an alternate ending for MMtF, but that it was a marketing ploy that Joel Silver sort of sprung on him. RT said that he and the writers tried to come up with something really out there since there would be no problem with follow-up/continuity. He seemed happy with it.
He acknowledged the love we have for Wallace, but wouldn't promise anything beyond we will learn what happened/why he went to Chicago and said again how he wishes he could use every regular character (the ones in the opening credits) but the budget can't fit all the actors so he doesn't have them for every ep.
Casting Spoiler --->
Leo will appear again, but we shouldn't count on frequency because the actor is on another show. <---
Tiny bity spoiler -->
He was asked about season 3 and he said that Veronica would be in college. it's more of a college show than a HS show anyway. Keith is a great parent, but "wouldn't a great parent just lock her in her room?" In next episode, we will get a hint about one of V's options. <---
He said the network seems ok with the ratings, but that another half million viewers would just about guarantee a renewal. They were all happy with the bump they got when "Lost" was a repeat. He just installed a $4000 shower in his office, which he wouldn't do unless he were feeling good about chances of staying on the air.
Something that might be considered a spoiler but we all kinda expect this anyway --->
We will find out what happened between Duncan and Kendall and we will find out what Duncan knew about Meg. <--
Rob wrote and directed ep. 11 with Casting Spoiler and slight ep spoiler regarding Lamb -->
Lucy Lawless as an FBI agent who smacks down Lamb, who has delusions of being an FBI agent.<---
Someone asked if V stop being "normal" and be the girl we fell in love with again? Rob said he doesn't think Veronica is really different this year, except that she's "socially more well-adjusted" and she "has a comfort zone with the 09ers"
Hard to write love triangle? Fans want V happy in a stable relationship, but show is about her journey, so that won't be happening. V/L was not part of the s1 plan; writers were exploiting the KB/JD chemistry - they sacrificed Lynn to make the relationship happen and make Logan stop being a "putz."
Will a blooper reel be available? Made one for s1 DVD, but just not very funny. Possibly on S2 DVD.
Written for female audience? Rob writes the show he wants to watch. Freaks and Geeks and Heathers are examples of good teen-speak, for which they strive.
Anything planned for Mac? Hopefully, series regular next year. She's got great chemistry with KB. Esp while Wallace is away, Mac can come to the forefront.
Fans hate Jackie - are they supposed to? Yes, but they hate her more than they should. People are so protective of Wallace that they're ready to hate her for going after a guy who's "fair game." Tessa is a very good actress. Rob blown away by how much we love Jane Austen; Jackie could have pushed a baby off a cliff and we would have forgiven her sooner than for disliking P&P.
Why still color-coding D&L? 2x06, with all the callbacks, make network nervous about how much we'll remember, so no problem to keep the color-coding. He also mentioned how they worry about eps like RSG that are more for the die hard fans and want to make sure it can still be ok for new viewers but then the fans get annoyed with exposition and Rob has to try to balance that.
Favorite moment? Rob thinks his Emmy clip moment would be 1x04 [our 1x05] when V cries that Keith can find anyone, so why not Lianne? Also, lots of moments in CotT and ATttD and AM. Show doesn't do violence particularly well, but he really liked River Stix scene.
Golden Globe nom? Teen shows tend not to do well at awards, but everyone loves KB. Rob "would watch Ian McShane read the phone book."
Small casting spoiler -->
Will we see Alicia again? Yes, but she and Keith are broken up. <--
Kalpini
when does VM start holiday reruns?
Lost is gone for a while so it will give it a chance to shine (and my VCR a brake.)
xp also i saw an article today on november sweeps and they said the ratings for VM were strong and helped to boost UPN's share up a bit.
3nodding They start on 12/14 with 2x02 Driver Ed and go on untill 1/11 because of a 2 hr premiere of South Beach and then 1/18 will be a new ep.
Next week should do really well because the best ratings we've had all season was Blast From the Past which was a new ep up against a Lost rerun. And RT said UPN was really happy with how well it did against a Lost rerun. Hopefully this episode will be around the same.
Here's a bit of a numbers break down for all the eps that Chris1010 put out at TWOP
Final Numbers:
2.01 3.2 Million
2.02 2.7 Million (Baseball)
2.03 3.0 Million
2.04 3.1 Million
2.05 3.6 Million (Lost in repeat)
2.01 2.2 Million (Repeat)
2.06 3.1 Million
2.07 2.9 Million
2.08 2.5 Million (Day before thanksgiving)
2.09 3.0 Million
AVG: 3.01 Million (Without repeats)
Here's hoping for another 3.6 mil for next week. The rest will probably be 2.2 mil since they are repeats.
