"And... and whoever th-that p-poor... g-grey f-fellow was helping you b-befor?" Newt tried to offer, unfamiliar with who was Marshall's friend. The timid frog had to break his habbit of hugging the scenery and needed to learn to open up to the other characters more often, so to speak.

"You mean Oz? Ummm..."

HELL NO!

"Sure, why not?" Marshall said, forcing a smile for that idea. The guy was responsible for his broken arm, but Marshall wasn't sure who Newt was friends with.

Its not easy to be alone, especially if you're some one like Marshall who usually enjoyed the company of others. Then again, this was a new experience for the 21 year old penguin man; never once in his two decade existence did he honestly feel alone in the world. But now, on this rather chilly morning on a tropical Island, he was. Or at least, he was convinced he was.

His creation was being animated. It was no longer his.

His body had betrayed him. It, too, was no longer his.

And in the three days of isolation, since his run-in with Gaius and the blond girl in the Cafeteria, he had decided:

No one missed him. He had no friends. He had no family. He was doing this alone.

So, on this chilly morning, he sat on the edge of his bed, looking at creations that were no longer his, with a book that was not his, on a bed that never belonged to him.

The morning had been spent pacing, a pensive frown creasing his broad face. He'd been avoiding it, he admited honestly to himself, for the past days... But going to the work site, trying to work in his room, even jogging to the beach - it had all been useless. It was as though some cloud followed him around, forever worrying and distracting him from everything else.

He couldn't forget Marshall's explosion, nor the accusing, hurtful looks the boy shot his way. It was so unlike the normally easy-going man.

Finally setting out, Gaius made it to the guy's duplex, leaving Vixen back in his own room, and knocked on the door.

Marshall looked up from his sketch-book, as if he had just been woken up from a deep sleep. He looked at the door, his solemn expression unwavering. He pushed the book aside with his flipper hand, his 'normal' hand still a good 4 weeks away from recovery, and slowly got up to answer.

Part of him wanted to just not open it. To just scream NO ONES HOME! and return to his dreary depression, reveling in memories of when he did own his own body, and his creation, and had a family.

But, like any one of sane mind, he didn't listen to that part of Himself.

He cracked the door open just slightly, enough for him to poke his head through. He was greeted with the sight of Gaius, looking rather depressed; a feeling Marshall was far too accustomed to as of late.

"...Hey." Marshall said, weakly.

Gaius' tense body language didn't relax when Marshall opened the door. His own greeting was equally slow in coming and flat. "...Hey."

He shifted his weight from one foot to the other as heavy silence began to fill the space between them and he ran a hand over the back of his neck before saying, "We need to talk..."

About how I kind of blame your project for breaking my arm? About how I'm a brat for blaming your project? About how furious I was about the biggest thing in my life being stolen? About how you didn't seem to care? About how I took it out on that poor girl?

"...About what?" Marshall asked.

Gaius straightened up, resolving to not to cave in to this boy. He had to be held responsible for what he did and how he treated the poor young lady. If he'd seen her face after he left...

And Gaius had not a clue about the brewing construction site anger.

"About your recent attitude, and how you lashed out at that girl over what she said. I don't know what the hell's gotten into you, Marshall... Why are you being so bitter and angry?"

"...Why the hell do you even care? Though if it means any thing...You were right. 'Bout us being picked? How no one would miss us? You were right," Marshall said coldly, "I guess I was lying. Guess that makes me useless, forgettable, and a liar, huh?" Marshall said, ready to close the door. He wanted to just burst into tears, but that wouldn't help any thing.

The hard face Gaius had worn since the start deepened into a dark frown as Marshall spouted off, anger rising in him with each line.

"What the hell is up with you?" he demanded, taking an imposing step forward. "Why shouldn't I care? I thought we were friends! Yet last time we met, you looked at me as if I was Sabin himself!"

His face grew flushed as Marshall's words lashed out at that scarred part of his ego, still only barely healed with time. His words were like barbed whips, lashing the scarring and exposing the wounds again.

"What is up with this self-pity stuff all of a sudden? What happened to that optimism I counted on, 'always stay true to yourself.' Are you going to abandon that so quickly? You're going to mope around feeling sorry for yourself every day?!"

Marshall flinched at Gaius' accusations. Gaius was right, and he knew it. Of course, he was not going to back down.

"Like I'm going to listen to some one who couldn't even take 10 minutes out of his day to see if I was even okay! I mean, I was helping YOU with YOUR project, and I break my only ********' good arm, and you can't even stop by to see how I am!? What kind of friend is that?! How am I supposed to take that, Gaius?!" Marshall yelled back. This was another new experience for the Penguin Man: Unbridled anger.

The horse-man reared his head back, shock and guilt at the accusation quickly translating to anger as he lashed back with a snarl. "I was planning to come by! I wanted to make sure Oz was okay first, considering the guy was practically PARALYZED. And it's not like I was unaffected by it all, the whole thing practically scared the crap out of me!"

"I'm SORRY I didn't come sooner! I wanted to, but I had issues! But besides all of that, it doesn't give you any right to yell at someone who claims to be your biggest fan. Some celebrity you are!"

No ammount of yelling would change the truth behind what Gaius had said.

"...I was never mad at her." Marshall grumbled, looking away from Gaius, "I-I'm mad about the fact that they stole the last ******** thing I had. They already took my body, and family...They took all of that away. B-But...I-I still had Sno Cone...And...They took that away. The only thing I knew I left back home, that no one could ever take away...They took it. And not one of my 'Fans' cared that I was gone...A-And you...You didn't seem to care, Gaius...No one cares." Marshall said, his voice growing smaller as he spoke.
