twilightwyrm Personally I've had the best luck with Elves, not because they were apperently romaticisied by the media (which some people here see to believe), but becasue they were originally the race I liked. Same thing here, and the reason I love playing them is that it brings back memories of my first character and campaign.

I don't have anything against elves really. I just don't like how insanly popular they are. And, while your reasons are your own, I know some people like elves just because of the image hollywood, or books or whatnot. I just don't like that alot of campaigns end up having more elves than any other race.
Now Half Elves...I just don't like Half Elves hehe. I would only ever play a half elf if it fit with my character's backstory and such best. The only thing a half elf really has going for him is low light vision. I mean, they've got no modifiers, they don't have the greatest racial abilities. They just, in my opinion, don't live up to the other races.

But thats the cool thing about playing half elves they are the underdog race. But your right books and Hollywood portray elves in a way that is annoying.

look at what they did in Lord of the Rings. In the books, Gimli and Legolas were alot cooler. In the movies, Legolas was this bad a**, and Gimli was just...comic relief. I mean, what the hell? But yeah, I don't really have anything about elves, I just think they're overrated, or at least overplayed.

That is true, but any race can be over played and it also matters on the player himself. If the player keeps making the same elven character over and over again it gets annoying but if a person completely alters the way he acts as either character then it's not so bad. Personaly I like to spend time playing as all the core races.

Yeah that's the only thing about the Lord of the Rings movies that was a bit edgy on. If anything Gimli was COOLER in the second book, and yet...

yeah. In the first movie, he wasn't so bad, but second and third, they turned him into a joke. I did not like that. Dwarves are killing machines, not clumsy clowns.

STILL ONLY COUTS AS ONE!
They only turned Gimli into a joke, because if they were to accurately potray a dwarf in the movies the war would have been over in 10 seconds as Gimli swung his axe and shattered the skies causing hellfire to destroy Sauron's army.

in the Dungeons and Dragons movie (which I wasn't too pleased with, but that's a totally different thing) the Dwarf was a joke too. I don't understand it. It makes the general public have a totally wrong idea of dwarves.
