Riku smiled, happy for his king. 'make sure she steals your heart...forever..' he repeated in his mind. Love was such a puzzling yet marvoulous thing he thought. "this is great news Scribble, shey" he said smiling yet feeling a bit left out. the only one of this little group not related to scribble. "someday, I hope I can be just like you two" he said chuckling "your so perfect for one another it makes even me feel happy!"

Scribble nodded to Shey's words and lowered his head to reach Jenny's level, looking her in the eyes. "Your mother is right, Jenny. We cannot pick the cubs' gender, but we can hope. However, I need you to promise me that you will be happy for your mother and I, even the cubs turn out to be sisters, okay?" He looked at her with calm, yet serious eyes. He knew his daughter always enjoyed being around the guys. And even though it irked him sometimes, being the protective father he was, he loved her personality nonetheless.

Jenny looked to her father as he spoke, eyes falling to the ground, but back up to him as she pondered his words...and considered. "Yes daddy. I promise." She grinned the grin she, again, inherited from her father and looked to her winged brother with a slight glare. "Because, Koekje, boys are more fun to play with. And they don't complain about their fur getting dirty, and they aren't afraid of getting a few cuts and bruises." She said in a confident tone. "And so what if I act like a boy? I think its a lot better than acting like a girl. I wouldn't be talking though, because if it weren't for that little tuff of hair growing on your head, your personality would fool me as that of a girls." She grinned in satisfaction.

Before Scribble had enough time to deal with his children's squabbles, he heard Riku speak, and turned to him, not wanting to leave him out of anything. After all, he was part of the Pride, the family. "Thank you for your kind words Riku! It makes me happy to hear such a thing." Scribble smiled warmly. "And I hope you'll find just the right lioness for you someday as well. I would humbly welcome her here with open arms." He left it at that, not wanting to embarrass the young adult, but fought back a frown at the though of Riku leaving Darkest Warmth to start his own. He knew the day will, or might come, but as of now he was just happy Riku was part of the family.

Koekje pouted. "Mommmmyyyy!" He whined, crawling over to his mother, dragging his wings. "Jenny said I look like a girl!"

Shey felt herself chuckle, for indeed, with his overly long eyelashes, Koekje did look a lot like a girl. She nuzzled the cub's little brown tuft of mane. "Well, Koekje, you'll never actually be a girl, now will you? So you could always just ignore it,"

She nuzzled the cub again and then looked up at Riku's words. "Why, thank you, Riku," She said smiling widely. So consumed in happiness was she that she failed to realize that perhaps someday the lion would have to leave them to start a pride with whichever lucky lioness he found.

((Seems like a good time ^0^))

Jenny rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath, "Can't even fight like a boy." She tossed her head to the side to get the progressively growing hair out of her eyes, looking up to her parents with a smile.

Scribble chuckled and looked to his daughter and son, "Be nice you two, this is supposed to be a time of happiness, not a time for quarrels." He lowered his head to nuzzle his son after Shey, then turned to Jenny to do the same. He loved his life, his Pride, his friends, and most of all, his family. He couldn't have asked for more.

"Oh, Jenny, be nice," Shey said with a laugh. She nudged Koekje back out into the open, despite his mewled protests. "Your father is right, you two, this is no time for fighting."

((-insert above mentioned time skip heeeeeere- xD))

The shadows of the den cooled the Queen as she panted against the effort of giving birth to the new cubs. She had only recently been able to accurately guess at the number of cubs there would be this time around, and she guessed at two, three at most, if there was an exceptionally little one. The Queen lay on her side in the cool of the den, wondering excitedly at what the new children would look like. Who would they take after more?

Suddenly, her beautiful face contorted as the first of many contractions came, and she knew then that it was truly time.

In the hours that followed, the Queen lay suckling two healthy baby boys, two fine bundles of still- blind and deaf fur, one teal and one brown. She licked their little heads delightedly.

"Scribble!"

Lost in the midst of dreams in deep sleep, Scribble was completely oblivious to the fact that his mate as just given birth to their new arrivals. However, being he a King he was always alert and alway kept an ear open. At the sound of his name, he jumped up and looked around in a daze, the sleep still lingering in his eyes for a few moment before he could see straight. He caught the different shades of brown on one side of the den, and immediately padded over to her. Before he even had the chance to nuzzle her, his eyes fell upon two little tiny bundles of fluff laying against her stomach, which was no longer swollen. His eyes widened and he looked to Shey for a confident answer, had she just given birth to their babies?

Shey lifted her head as her beloved mate padded into the den, smiling as she looked into his eyes and read his question. "Well, what do you think?" She said, turning her head to nuzzle at the tiny little bundles, which seemed to sense a new presence and tried to bury themselves even farther into her fur. She nuzzled them gently to reassure them and turned back to Scribble. "Aren't they beautiful?" She said softly.

Koekje peered into the den, oblivious to the fact that he now had two new siblings. "Huh. I still think daddy looks like a big cookie." He muttered to himself. Then he blinked, suddenly realizing the similarities between Jenny and his father. "And Jenny looks like a liddle cookie."
PostPosted: Sun Feb 18, 2007 8:19 pm

Scribble blinked a few times, making sure he was down to Earth before looking to his new born cubs. "Oh....oh my.." He couldn't words to explain how adorable they were. He bent his head down to look a little closer, realizing how different their markings were. What? They each had...pink in them? He was pretty sure he nor Shey had any pink on their fur and chuckled slightly, looking to his mate. "Is it just me, or do those boys look like they have pink hearts on them?" He was so overjoyed, two boys, Jenny would be so happy. He noticed his oldest son walk into the den and grinned proudly. "Koekje! Come see your new brothers!"

Jenny saw the wing tips of her brother as he walked out of the den. She had been lying on her back and decided to see what he was up to, turning into secret spy mode; nothing ever got passed her. She grinned and jumped off her rock, peeking her head inside the den, only to hear her brother call her a 'little cookie'. She held back a giggle.

"It's definitely not just you," Shey replied with a rather bewildered chuckle. Why the cubs had pink in their fur was beyond her. But she wasn't about to question it. So consumed in joy was she that the mystery of the pinkness hardly mattered to her, and although it was a mystery she was sure she would spend hours trying to decipher in the days to come, it was not one she could bring herself to start comtemplating at the moment.

She looked past Scribble to see her eldest son pad into the den. Which had to mean Jenny was nearby, for despite their comically stormy relationship the two siblings seemed most comfortable when they were around each other. But perhaps all that would change now. Depending on how lively these new cubs were, perhaps Jenny would find more joy in romping with her new brothers than fighting with her old one. Besides, Koekje would never be bothered to bring himself to join their silly games if there was food around. And even if there was not, he would much rather lie in the shade and fan himself with his curious wings. Yet another phenomenon that she had yet to decipher.

Ah, perhaps it was their blessing from the heavens that each litter of theirs would be special...

"Oh, well..." Koekje padded closer to see what his father's figure had previously kept hidden from view. The two cubs nestled against each other, their fur still spiky from the drying off Shey had given them the moment they had been born. "They look like..." He paused here a moment, and blinked contemplatively, staring hungrily at the little bundles of joy. "They look like truffles." He announced, eyes brightening at his decision.

"Hey now, Koekje, watch who you call truffles," Shey warned with a laugh. "Jenny, if you're out there, you'll be very happy with what you'll see when you come in!" She called toward the mouth of the den.

"Well, Papa looks like a big fat cookie anyhow," The tubby cub said with a shrug. "An' Jenny looks like a liddle one. So him an' him might as well look like truffl's."

"I'll keep that in mind, honey," Shey said with another laugh. "But I'm telling you, when we name them, they aren't going to have anything to do with food!"

(( rofl ))

Jenny heard the sound of her mother's voice. Darn it. She new Jenny all too well, her cover had been blown. She thought twice about coming out from hiding until she heard her family chattering about...cubs? With that, she somersaulted into the den and landed on her belly, legs sprawled, giggling. "Whats that Mommy?" She brought herself to her little teal paws and romped over to where her mother lay, pushing her way through her father and brother. Her eyes widened at the sight before her. Two baby brothers! Brothers! She was so excited she wanted to yell, but didn't want to scare the cubs, so grinned her trademark grin. "Oooohhh! They are so cute Mommy!" She whispered. "Two boys!"

Scribble looked to his eldest son as he commented on his looks. "A fat cookie!?" He grunted and put on a pouting face, poking at his son. "Well you look like a....like a gingerbread man!" Scribbled chuckled, but was disrupted by the squirming of his only daughter, he smiled the moment she came into his site. She was so happy, almost as much as he was. He couldn't help but keep the proud look on his face. His family was growing, as well as his Pride.

"Uh uh," Koekje shook his head. "Big fat cookie, Pa."

Shey grinned at her daughter as she lay sprawled out on the floor on her belly. "Oh, come over here and see!" She exclaimed, her tail twitching happily. She felt a fresh wave of happiness wash over her at Jenny's excited expression. So different was her reaction to Koekje's indifference that the lioness felt light-headed. The joy on Jenny's face seemed to bring more life and sparkle to the happiness that was already circling the den. "Yes, two boys!"

Koekje blinked briefly at his sister's intrusion. "Yea, but... but..." He struggled for something to reply with. A gingerbread man?! "Cookies are fatter." He announced.

Oh this was going to be so exciting! She was the only girl in her family aside from her mother and the adult females in her Pride. She wasn't going to have to deal with any snobby little sisters. "What are you going t name them Mommy" She continued to speak in a whisper, not understanding that the cubs were deaf at birth.

Scribble chuckled to himself, almost forgetting he was the adult in this situation with Koekje. He pretended to loose, unable to reply with another comeback. "Well....well....well!" He shifted his eyes back and forth. "Awww man, your right Koekje! Cookies are fatter." He bowed his head and shifted his paws against the den's floor.

Koekje nodded triumphantly. "Tha's right!" He bobbed his head and grinned, plopping his ample behind onto the floor and then stared intently at the two bundles he had pegged as 'truffles'.

Shey nuzzled her daughter. It was so adorable the way Jenny was whispering to keep from startling her two baby brothers. She knew that the little spitfire was used to being boisterous and loud, and much as she wanted to tell Jenny that cubs were born blind and deaf, she couldn't quite bring herself to destroy this moment. She knew just how much Jenny already cared for the two baby brothers she had hardly even met, and just how different than Koekje she was.

"Oh, names... I have no idea," She confessed, her gaze searching Scribble, Jenny, and Koekje each in turn for ideas. "If anyone has any ideas..."

"Oh I have one!" Koekje piped up with a tiny little malicious snigger that his mother must have missed, for she didn't scold him for it. "How bout Stallon?" He saw his mother tilt her head curiously, waiting for an explanation. "Weeeeell. With like... zebras and horses, stallions are supposed to be big and strong." His mother nodded, slightly warily, for she knew her son's sense of humor. He eyed the little hearts that patterned their tailfeathers and that hung off of the brown cub's flakes. "Well, he's got hearts. So he's like a stallion. But not!"

Shey narrowed her eyes, although she could hardly bring herself to be angry at the lion. "Now, now, Koekje." She warned. But much as she thought the explanation was a crude sense of humor, she did like the name/

((Trevor is going to find the little tie later on. It would weird for him to be born with it xD *pokes his journal*))

Jenny purred with affection at her mother's nuzzled, returning it with closed eyes. She studied her two new brothers carefully. One looked like her mother and the other like her father, but with a mix of both in each. She, herself, was a split image of her father, where Koekje was both her parents. The two new boys both consisted of a mix, but with traces of pink in them as well. She wanted to question it, but then looked to Koekje, who had wings sprouting from his back in which no one else in her family had; that explained that. She snapped back into reality however at the sound of her first brother's words and his idea for naming one of the cubs. She hissed at his humor in which he only thought was funny. "That wasn't very nice. Yes...they are hearts....and pink..." She tried her hardest not to giggle, not wanting to portray herself as a bully. "But still. He is our brother and we shall accept him the way he is" She said with satisfaction. "Besides, your the one with wings."

Scribble looked to his family and smiled. As much as Jenny and Koekje disagreed, it was what made them so different from one another; unique. He looked to Shey as Koekje stated his idea of a name and held back from laughing, not wanting to upset his mate or encourage Koekje. "I actually kinda like the name." He announced simply. "He reminds me of those stallions with the white marking in the middle of their head." He nodded his head.

Jenny scrunched her nose and looked to the nameless cub. Her parents had seem to like Koekje's idea, despite his bullying humor, so wanted to be a part of naming her new brothers. "Trevor." She said bluntly. "I don't really haaave a full reason as to why we should name him that, but he looks like he is going to be a little terror!" The changes of pitch in her voice as she spoke varied and some vowels lasted longer than others.

((Scary, not weird! xDD))

"At least my wings don't make me look like a girl," Koekje bobbed his head again. "Plus, he does look like a horse, so its a perfect name for him." He waggled his wings happily as the name was accepted. Then he realized with a pang that the name he had bestowed upon his little brother was indeed a far more manly name than his own. He frowned a little as he contemplated this.

Shey nodded at Jenny's suggestion. In truth, she would have accepted pretty much any suggestion flung her way, but now that the suggestions had been made, she couldn't have thought of more fitting names for either of the newborns. "Why, Trevor sounds perfect," She said, looking up at Scribble, and then to Jenny, her green-eyed gaze warm with that inevitable sparkle of joy dancing in it.

"But that's not a funny name!" Koekje protested, snapping out of his little trance. "Not like my guy." But much as he wanted to come up with another witty name, his mind drew a blank as he stared at the little teal truffle, and finally he shrugged.
