Ex band member. Out of High School and I'm not sure if I'll be going to college or not (I've got good job ops already). But anyway, I was first chair percussionist and percussion captain. Great on the snare, but better on the quads. Yep, those were the days domokun .

Kaiser Eline The tenors or quads, whatever you call them, are a lot of fun to play. I have been taking lessons from our percussion director for about 2 years. They are a fun instrament that, I think will never get old. As a percussionist who plays jazz, concert, and marching through school on all levels. I'd say there is no percussion instrument that has ever gotten old for me. I find such enjoyment out of all of them. There are so many things you can do with a tambourine. Claves take a lot of skill to get the best sound of out of them. A vibraslap is pure amusement to use. That's an important thing to me. As a percussionist, I can find enjoyment in anything I have to play to make the band sound better. Specialization isn't something percussionists can afford to do. Unlike most instruments we are expected to know it all. *runs back to practice his mallets*

yeah thats a good piont. I need to practice my mallets more, but one guy always takes the mallet part before i get the chance to get a part. gonk

I'm in eigth grade, so I'm not extraordinarily good at any one thing yet, but I am pretty good at mallets, that's what my teacher always sticks me on, anyway. I am also good at snare, bass, quads, cymbals, timpani, so pretty much, I'm good at everything. We haven't done chair tests yet, so I don't know how I rank. I know it's first or second but probably first.

i'm in eighth grade too but our school is so new we hardly have anything. We're still missing a part of the timpani, the smallest drum. And we just got a trap set this year.
StickChick09 you remind me of this one guy in my band. He's really good at almost everything (he's a percussionist) but he plays the mallets on nearly everypiece, 'cause no one else will. Our BD has to make certain people play the mallets 'cause they need to practice on them.

I am a Marimba freak blaugh
I also can't play snare crying My elementary and middle school directors were short on percussionists who could READ MUSIC and play mallets and such, so I haven't played snare more than passingly. I can hardly double-bounce gonk
Ah well, more time to devote to my mallets. heart
I'm trying for line next year - Tenors if I can steal them xD or 3rd bass. It's either that or I'm Pit Captian. ^_^

Nintendo Punk 05 unfortunatly, this was my last year, and i had fun,, and i'm a good all around player... i'm the third best percussionist we have.... (the other two have been doing it their entire life, this is my first year) *cries* I hate seinor graduation day... we lost 9 percussionsts last year...

eek ORGANIZED THOUGHTS FROM DRUMMERS!!!
Sorry. I'm pit/crash during marching season. I love it. Even though the line doesn't always love me! blaugh So, yeah. I'm section leader of the 'front ensemble' as our teacher made us call ourselves. It's pit. But we were on the field for this year's show, lol. sweatdrop Yeah, it's dumb. Anyway.
I admire you guys. This section, to be any kinda good, has to put in three times the hours as anybody else and EVERYONE has to be dedicated because no two have the same part! domokun It's hard work and takes a lot of dedication and w00tness. So, yeah. I've said my piece.
